A 13-year-old boy with autism was shot by police after his mother called for help managing a 'mental breakdown'

A 13-year-old boy was seriously injured after being shot by a police officer in Salt Lake City on Friday night, according to his mother.
Golda Barton said that her son Linden Cameron, who has Asperger syndrome, experienced a "mental breakdown" earlier in the day. It had been her first day back at work in nearly a year, and Linden was having trouble coping, she confirmed to CNN in an email.
Barton also confirmed she called the police and asked for a crisis intervention team to help her manage the situation and get her son treatment.
"I said, 'Look, he's unarmed. He doesn't have anything. He just gets mad and he starts yelling and screaming,'" Barton told CNN affiliate KUTV about her call to police. "He's a kid he's trying to get attention. He doesn't know how to regulate."

When police arrived, Barton said her son ran away. She told KUTV that she heard someone yell "get down on the ground" three times, followed by several gunshots.
"Why didn't they tase him? Why didn't they shoot him with a rubber bullet?" Barton told the station. "He's a small child. Why don't you just tackle him? You are big police officers with massive amounts of resources."
Salt Lake City Police Sgt. Keith Horrocks said in a news conference on Saturday that officers had been called to the area because a boy was having a "psychological episode and had made threats to some folks with the weapon." The boy fled and as police chased after him, one officer fired their weapon and struck the child, Horrocks said. Officers provided medical aid to the boy until medical personnel arrived, Horrocks said. He was then taken to a local hospital, according to police.

Linden's injuries include damage to his shoulder, ankles, intestines, bladder and colon, as well as nerve damage, Barton told CNN.

    SMDH.

    Idiot.

I always wait for the rest of the story. Is there video? Are we going to find out he had a gun and was pointing it at Police?

    Let's see, found this:

Cops were primed to shoot. This is a common thread in these cases. By the time the story is relayed to officers, it's an active shooter event. Don't expect to ever find out the truth on who said what, or how the story changed. When's the last time there was a story about a dispatcher being fired (or prosecuted) for over-embellishing? Or a person charged with a crime for false reporting to the Police?

......“Why didn’t they Tase him?,” Barton said to KUTV. “Why didn’t they shoot him with a rubber bullet? You are big police officers with massive amounts of resources. Come on. Give me a break.” ...

..."Barton told KUTV that she was following the procedure of how to ask for help when he son is in crisis by calling 911.

This is how to deal with people with mental health issues,” Barton said. “So, you call them, and they’re supposed to come out and be able to deescalate a situation using the most minimal force possible.”

Where ever did she get an idea like this? It's just not true. Cops have some training in descalating a situation, but ultimately the only thing they have that a family member doesn't, is a gun - that, and whole lot less patience for your crazy loved one. People need to quit pushing this fantasy that police have magical calming skills. Her son is her own responsibility. Don't call in the cops expecting them to taze or shoot rubber bullets at your badly-behaved kid - that's no even legal! Very stupid decision on her part - she should blame herself.

Maybe a tranquilizer delivered via a robotic device to disable such individualsm that are a threat to themselves and others?

    Idiots all around!

Mom for calling the kops, the head kop for skirting blame and Teh-Newz for not placing blame directly where it belongs; on the shooter, his chain of command and the city itself including the pandering mayor.

Does no one care about the safety and condition of the policeman that was forced to shoot this pint-sized terrorist?
