PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Oregon State Police will return to Portland to help local authorities after the fatal shooting of a man following clashes between President Donald Trump supporters and counter-protesters that led to an argument between the president and the city’s mayor over who was to blame for the violence.

We're being governed ruled by a geriatric Alzheimer patient/puppet whose strings are being pulled by an elitist oligarchy who believe they can manage the world... imagine the utter maniacal, sociopathic hubris!

A complete waste of time. The last time the OSP went to Portland, they left since the Portland DA Mike Schmidt kept releasing the arrested rioters.

Maybe after this shooting things might be different, but I'm not holding my breath.

The fact that the mayor blames Trump for the violence is hilarious. Maybe if he took better care of his city, the whole thing would have never happened.

See the updates? Sheriffs are refusing to show up.
Oregon Sheriffs Reject Gov. Kate Brown’s Request to Assist Portland
    HANNAH BLEAU1 Sep 2020

Law enforcement agencies in the State of Oregon are denying Gov. Kate Brown’s (D) request to assist with unrest in Portland, citing the “lack of political support for public safety, the uncertain legal landscape, the current volatility combined with intense scrutiny on use of force” which “presents an unacceptable risk if deputies were deployed directly.”

Washington County Sheriff Pat Garrett released a statement following Brown’s request for law enforcement agencies to assist Portland Police, committing only to support them in “indirect ways” such as “analyzing risks associated with social media, air support, assisting with a specific criminal investigation, etc.”

Garrett stated that the risk of deploying personnel is far too great for several reasons, including the lack of support for public safety.

“PPB is a terrific partner and I am very sympathetic to what they are enduring,” Garrett said. “However, the lack of political support for public safety, the uncertain legal landscape, the current volatility combined with intense scrutiny on use of force presents an unacceptable risk if deputies were deployed directly”:

Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts also responded to Brown’s call for assistance, revealing that the governor did not even discuss the plan with his office prior to announcing it.

“Had Governor Brown discussed her plan with my office, I would have told her it’s about changing policy, not adding resources,” Roberts said. “Increasing law enforcement resources in Portland will not solve the nightly violence and now, murder.”

Roberts said it is essential to support a policy that “holds offenders accountable for their destruction and violence,” stressing that it is the “only way to make Portland safe again.”

    He continued:

That will require the DA to charge offenders appropriately and a decision by the Multnomah County Presiding Judge not to allow offenders released on their own recognizance, and instead require bail with conditions. The same offenders are arrested night after night, only to be released by the court and not charged with a crime by the DA’s Office. The next night they are back at it, endangering the lives of law enforcement and the community all over again.

“Had Governor Brown asked me, I would have told her that no amount of human resources will stop the ‘cycle of violence’ (her term) that is making Portland unsafe,
he added. “For that to occur, the criminal justice system will need do its part and hold offenders accountable.”

Brown released her plan, a “unified law enforcement plan,” to restore peace in Portland on Sunday.

    As Breitbart News detailed:

According to the plan, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office will “work with system partners to hold individuals booked for violent behavior, and to ensure that there is adequate jail space to hold such individuals,” while the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office will “prosecute serious criminal offenses, including arson and physical violence.”

Oregon State Police will also support Portland Police by offering both personnel and resources, which will “free up the Portland Police Bureau’s investigative capabilities to arrest and charge those engaging in violent acts.”

Her plan also listed the Clackamas and Washington County Sheriff’s Offices, specifically, asking them to “support the Portland Police Bureau with personnel and resources to keep the peace and protect free speech.”

Notably, Brown blamed the escalation of violence in the city, primarily, on “right-wing vigilantes” and “armed white supremacists” in remarks corresponding with the release of her plan.

“The right-wing group Patriot Prayer and self-proclaimed militia members drove into downtown Portland last night, armed and looking for a fight,” she said following the night that saw a man in a “Patriot Prayer” hat shot and killed.

“Every Oregonian has the right to freely express their views without fear of deadly violence. I will not allow Patriot Prayer and armed white supremacists to bring more bloodshed to our streets,” she continued.

“Time and again, from Charlottesville to Kenosha to Portland, we have seen the tragic outcome when armed right-wing vigilantes take matters into their own hands,” she added. “Gun violence is never, ever the answer.”

Sheriffs reject governor’s plan to curb Portland violence
    By GILLIAN FLACCUS - today

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Sheriffs from two counties in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon, on Monday emphatically rejected a plan by the state’s governor for their deputies to help patrol the city following last weekend’s deadly shooting of a right-wing supporter of President Donald Trump.

Their decision threw into doubt a plan announced a day earlier by Gov. Kate Brown to keep the peace in Portland by adding nearby sheriffs deputies and Oregon State Police troopers as the liberal city struggles to regain its footing in the glare of the national spotlight.

Brown, a Democrat, announced the security plan for Portland after the fatal shooting of Aaron Danielson, 39, on Saturday as Black Lives Matter protesters clashed with Trump supporters who drove in a caravan through the city. No one has been arrested in the case.

The rejection by the two sheriffs, elected as nonpartisans, increases uncertainty about Portland’s future just as Trump puts the chaos in Portland in his campaign crosshairs as part of his law and order re-election campaign theme.

Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts said inundating the city with more law enforcement would not work because Portland’s newly elected district attorney has dismissed charges against hundreds of protesters arrested for non-violent, low-level crimes.

Roberts and Washington County Sheriff Pat Garrett also said the liability for their deputies would be too great amid worries deputies could be sued for actions they take outside their home jurisdictions.

“The same offenders are arrested night after night, only to be released by the court and not charged with a crime by the DA’s Office,” Roberts said. “The next night they are back at it, endangering the lives of law enforcement and the community all over again.”

Brown’s chief-of-staff, Charles Boyle, said Roberts did agree that deputies from Clackamas County could help by handling some calls normally taken by state police while its troopers are dispatched to Portland.

Trump has made Portland and its Democratic leadership a frequent target and he demanded that local and state leaders call in the National Guard after Saturday’s fatal shooting.

“Portland is a mess, and it has been for many years. If this joke of a mayor doesn’t clean it up, we will go in and do it for them!” Trump tweeted Monday, a day after tweeting that the mayor was a “fool” and a “weak and pathetic Democrat mayor.”

Brown has so far declined to send the National Guard to Portland but instead announced the planned coalition of law enforcement agencies late Sunday. In a statement, she said right-wing groups like Patriot Prayer had come to Portland “looking for a fight” and vowed to stop more bloodshed.

“We all must come together — elected officials, community leaders, all of us — to stop the cycle of violence,” she said.

Some Black community leaders were also upset with the proposal to put more officers on the streets. Portland police have been criticized for using tear gas and for being overly aggressive.

“If you’re just there, the odds of getting arrested at this point are almost so high as to the point of being guaranteed,” said Shanice Clarke, one of the founders of the Black Millennial Movement and a frequent protester.

Maybe removing the DA would be a start so offenders with criminal records wont be released to the public? makes you wonder how many of those rioters were sexual offenders that were rioting or are still planning to riot this week or month.

This has to stop this problem isnt becoming a police problem but rather the DA problem why is this DA person releasing them so many of them? will they blame it on the covid? covid cant be used as a excuse.

When some of those if not many rioters had a previous criminal record. So why bail them after arrest?
