Trump: 'Shelter those at high risk, let the young and healthy go back to school and work'

President Donald Trump said the US should continue reopening its economy, despite a recent increase in the death rate from the coronavirus.

Speaking at a press briefing Thursday, the president said that given the disproportionate danger of the virus to the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions, people in high risk groups should be “sheltered” from the virus, while the ‘young and healthy’ are permitted to return to work or school.

“We want to get the world back to what it was, and I think we'll have that, including great job numbers, including so many things that are happening so positive.”

“The data shows that children are lower risk from the China virus, very substantially. When children do contact the virus, they often have only very mild symptoms or none at all, and medical complications are exceedingly rare.”

Those that do face complications often have underlying medical conditions. Ninety-nine percent of all China virus hospitalizations are adults. And 99.96 percent of all fatalities are adults. That means that children are a tiny percentage -- less than 1 percent, and even a small percentage of 1 percent.”

“Given these considerations, we believe many school districts can now reopen safely, provided they implement mitigation measures and health protocols to protect families, protect teachers, and to protect students. And we do have to protect the teachers and the families also; we have to remember that.”

“Our strategy to safely reopen schools mirrors our approach nationwide. As we race toward the completion of a vaccine and therapeutics, the responsible path is to shelter those at highest risk, while allowing those at lower risk -- much lower, in the case of young children -- to resume work and school and -- as long as everyone practices vigilant hygiene and social distancing. We want that.”

Politicians should have been making policies surrounding elderly and people with preexisting conditions instead of this one size fits all approach where we treat everybody as if they have the immune system of a 90 year old.

The usual suspects raising hell about the schools not opening this fall...this baffles me.

The best thing that can happen is these kids do not get placed back in the government indoctrination centers.

This is win - win - win: the kids don't get Marxist-Queeer brainwashing, it encourages stronger families and when property tax time comes around don't pay...Defund the Schools...why should anybody pay for nothing?

Situation is still bit fluid on 'conservative' classifications but lately great progress has been made by both major parties to elect progressive, liberal, moderated leaders who on andd off lean towards safety-first approach. Current MAGA laedership used to identify as democrats few years ago and has shown the courage to collaborate with marxists/progressives on various issues.

MAGA supporters / OP might have another explanation for this push.

    Backpedaling for elections.

Talk is cheap, money speaks. Trump, the businessman that he is, knew what he was doing in launching little-known companies by awarding Billions of tax-payer money.

Trump can speak all he wants, knowing that airports, stores, schools, public venues, etc., will require vaccines or you will be turned away. There is no turning back, unless most Americans understand the gig and stand up against it. Which they will not.

Government, including trump, has NO business in healthcare. Period.

I don’t care what liberals think. Until the people learn the truth, nobody will be free.

Communism, Fascism..... or Freedom. Your game of pitting between the two only perpetuates the two.

Now that we know survival rate is 99.8% same as a flu, should be throwing kids together to develop herd immunity. This is a flat out pay-op to institute mass control and contact tracing. The initial pitch was to flatten the curve so systems would not be overwhelmed, not stop the spread of all disease, which is now the narrative, and a recipe for fascism that Hitler could never dream of.

Edit - Then why doesn't Trump call off the BS national emergency order? Then governors would almost be forced to stop the nonsense.
