Cool Amash confirms he won't seek reelection

Michigan Rep. Justin Amash (L) confirmed Thursday evening that he was not seeking reelection to Congress, in an apparent end to his 2020 political aspirations.

Amash retweeted an article from The Detroit News that quoted an aide to the congressman as saying his reelection campaign had "idled" in February, and that Amash did not intend to seek the Libertarian Party's nomination for the district after abandoning the Republican Party last year.

"He hasn't been campaigning for any office and doesn't plan to seek the nomination for any office," an adviser told the publication.

I can't really blame him for deciding he doesn't want to be in DC again next year as this $#@!show continues to slide off into oblivion. He should refund any campaign donations received after February though, since that is apparently when he stopped campaigning. Either that or donate it to YAL. Keeping all the money he raised after backing out of the LP pres and congressional campaigns would be a really bad look for him.

I was really hoping he was going to be able to retain this seat after dropping out of the presidential race.
Please consider donating to the Mises Caucus today. We are TAKING OVER the LP.

We have big plans including creating a program to bring libertarians like Maj Toure and Tom Woods to college campuses.

We have several LP Mises Caucus Members who won elected office in 2020 including multiple City Council seats.

It is something more evil than China, it is the two party system. Without the financial support of the GOP or DNC, the chances of winning a seat in congress is near impossible. Like Amash or not, you have to recognize that his path to keep office is tied to the two party system, not the will of the people. Only when voters start rejecting the two party system will they have a chance to elect "public servants".

Duh this was a foregone conclusion. It was obvious that he gave up and wanted out a long time ago.

Rand and Thomas seem to navigate the waters quite well in the GOP. Theres a reason they're keeping their seats.

Thomas came out huge against Trump on the corona bill (the one that Amash was "present" for iirc) and even received his own dedicated attack tweet by POTUS but still won his primary overwhelmingly.

There is being yourself, which Thomas did.
There is also being deranged, which Amash fell victim to.

Ron Paul specifically advised using the GOP as a vehicle for the cause, not the LP. For good reason.

It speaks loudly that libertarians complain about the two party system, but when a superstar joins their party and only raises 24k....

Ron Paul also talked about using the democrat party, as well as other parties, as a vehicle for the cause.

There is too much vile divide in this country when there does not have to be. Justin attempted to expose the party for what it is, and did what he thought in his heart was right - on a holiday no less.

    I agree.

But now is the time when it should be painfully obvious that any "party" within the current system exists to only serve and grow the state, and we must now be looking for ways to actually "Starve the State" in order to "End the Fed" as Ron has emphasized all of his life. This will not happen with the republican party, democrat party, libertarian party or any other party.

There are some wonderful threads in the "Political Philosophy & Government Policy" section which explain exactly how to do this, if one is completely serious and honest about the change that we seek.

It is my hope he can get a paid gig with Fox, CNN, or MSNBC. We need a Libertarian presence in the media and he is very articulate.

I have no doubt that he will receive his 30 pieces of silver that way or through a book deal, that's how the swamp works.

Except that he isn't very libertarian these days. I mean yeah he is better than most, but advocating for a UBI is socialism, not libertarian. He will confuse people and likely damage the cause.

I assume he will be speaking at the DNC convention in support of Joe Biden right after he signs on as an analyst for CNN.
