"A State Department official also confirmed that "the United States' notice of withdrawal, effective July 6, 2021, has been submitted to the UN Secretary-General, who is the depository for the WHO.""

Plenty of time to think things through.
Highly doubt that after Nov 2020 elections, Kushner (or heaven forbid some Biden coordinator) will call Democratic contacts in Congress to start a blocking effort to play the bad cop to stop this global-welfare isolationism..

We can't be purists about banning all welfare/socialism spending but would rather see go any such spending on domestic welfare like PPP program/MAGA BLM linked domestic businessses than a global welfare program run by incomptent nincampoops.

That said, given the history of MAGA reversals & flip flops to game the gullible wing of 'fool me 6.0' generation as part of election season politics, let's make sure it won't be reversed few weeks/months later to save UN WHO jobs/money won't keep flowing quietly under some other clause as happened in case of reversal tweet "need to save jobs for Chinese company ZTE" few months after China tariffs tweet or following apparent foreign aid cut fakenews. Exclusive: U.S. senators ask Pentagon if $1 billion in Afghan aid was cut

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two Democratic senators on Monday asked U.S. Defense Secretary Mike Esper what happened to $1 billion in aid for Afghanistan the Trump administration said it would cut nearly three months ago, according to a letter reviewed by Reuters.
Reuters reported on April 5 the reduction would come from funds for Afghan security forces and, on May 20, that the Pentagon had not withheld the money despite Pompeo’s March 23 vow to cut it “immediately.”

Yep, July 2021. Just like Trump's "withdrawal" from the Paris Accord, which doesn't take effect until he's out of office and can be rescinded. Or the withdrawal from TPP, which was just pushed into the USMCA. It's all bull$#@! 24/7 with this guy.

Progressives believe that this a lossing move and this a move that Trump wants to as much damage as he is on his way out haha. Right and i am sure Biden will also knee down to WHO and listen to whatever what WHO has to say right? even though WHO claimed many things wrong before?

The WHO needs to be reformed.

Trump's motive is obviously to blame others for the coronavirus problem which he has in significant part caused. But, motives aside, what is the effect of this move? On the one hand, no doubt the WHO is inefficient, like the CDC or similar organizations. On the other hand, managing epidemics is a legitimate state function, and it requires international cooperation, so some entity like the WHO is likely a good idea. I doubt anyone on this board is in a position to say whether the funding for the WHO is worth it or not. I am sure, however, that such cost-benefit analysis never blazed over Dear Leader's cortex, and that people who utterly ignore/excuse the $6 trillion of federal spending carried out in the last several months have no standing to complain about the relatively trivial amounts given to the WHO.

What the $#@! are you talking about?? Trump closed the airports down from China before anybody was talking about doing that (except Scott Adams and a couple people on twitter), then he got railed by Democrats for being racist.. a month later Pelosi and Shumer were out in the streets telling everybody to come out for the Chinese New Years celebration on TV.

Then Trump followed the Constitution and let the states handle the lockdowns, etc, and promoted a drug which studies now show may have saved 50% of the patients who died, and the leftist media said it was dangerous and was killing people.

You are so misinformed it is mindboggling.. do you really have CNN playing on your TV all day or something?

The coronavirus was destroying Wuhan on live TV/social media in January.

The danger was known to the US government well before that.

The travel ban, which accomplished very little, and was a sop to the base (who like travel bans anyway), didn't come till February.

Since then, he has many times said that the virus is like the flu, that cases would be down to zero in a few weeks, etc.

He's still intentionally not wearing a mask or requiring one at his jackass rallies (is Herman Cain still alive?) for obviously political reasons.

He is almost single-handedly responsible for the fact that Texas et al didn't close down and are now in deep trouble.

Look at a map of the current cases and you'll see a very obvious correlation between party and cases.

Everybody but the Q crew can see this, which is why he's collapsed in polling.

More directly to the point of the thread, the US continued to do nothing long after China/WHO stopped pretending it wasn't a problem.

Ron Paul has been debunking your nonsense for weeks. Pay attention.

Just google "Georgia Coronavirus Deaths" and look at the chart if you want to see what happens when a state that didn't get hit hard to begin with has been open for more than 2 months.. deaths have been stable/ dropping and it looks about the same as states that stayed closed for much longer.

Texas never got hit hard to begin with, and they are still relatively stable. The country as a whole, the death rate has been dropping for over 2 months very sharply. So in a sense, Trump was right that in a few weeks it did start going away.

The fatality rate was initially said to be 2%-6% by the media and many of the experts.. back in March or earlier I was calculating it at around 0.25% and eventually the CDC admitted that it is probably around 0.25% based on anti-body testing. That number was never widely reported.

So yes, it should have been "downplayed" in that regard because they were wrong. That doesn't mean we don't need to do anything different, but the discussion needed to be based on real numbers and who is the most vulnerable. The death rate has been plummeting, but because we are doing 700% more testing now than at the peak, they are finding more cases in some areas and the media is pretending like we are having another surge. The daily death totals are still not showing a surge, they are still dropping and it's been 5 weeks that they have been reporting on this "surge" that you no doubt believe in.

Now studies are coming out showing that for every one coronavirus death, there will be 29 deaths from the economic shutdowns globally.

Sorry, but Ron is right again, and you are wrong as usual.

Governor Cuomo was sending positive covid patients into nursing homes - patients who weren't even nursing home patients and were still positive were being sent to nursing homes in NY. This caused thousands of nursing home deaths and no doubt caused thousands more nursing home patients to go to hospitals where many died.

Meanwhile, Trump had a giant hospital ship parked off the coast of NY for free, and it was unused.

Sorry rev, you are REALLY misinformed on this issue. I don't know how you could possibly even have any information that is relevant to this discussion.

Ask any Trump supporter if a stranger calls them who has their name, address and phone number and asks if they support Trump, if they will take the poll?

I've seen as high as 2 out of 3 will not take the call. Not only is it potentially dangerous to your physical wellbeing giving out that information, but also for your job or if you own a business. Polling agencies are admitting they are having a hard time contacting the people in areas where Trump's base is very heavy.

Not to mention, they use 25% Republicans when 33% voted in the last election.. That puts Trump ahead in the polls just with that one adjustment. Then consider that many of the Republicans who do answer are going to be leaning away from supporting Trump on top of that. Trump wins in a landslide, and you are listening to propaganda.

I miss the days when this forum was universally in favor of removing the US from the UN and all its entities.

I am now convinced that there is fairly large group within this "movement" that never want to succeed at anything.

Why? Who the hell knows...I guess to have something to bitch and complain about I suppose.

Conservatism Inc® has built a multi million dollar business of grifting people to the tune of billions every year, to do nothing...but at least it keeps the K Streeters in hookers and blow...this portion of "liberty" folks, on the other hand, that utterly refuses to acknowledge a small victory of any sort and take heart in it and maybe inspire people to press harder is also too stupid to make a buck off it.

Well, with the exception of Ron Paul himself, who is sadly out hustling Porter Stansberry doom porn again.

You are in favor of world government, just run by a single authoritarian instead of a deliberative body.

    Correct

I can understand why you would feel this way...all national history, culture, ethnic heritage is all worthless bunk, to you.
Culture - music, food, etc - is very important to the individual's enjoyment of life, but it has precious little to do with politics.

You are in favor of an amorphous blob of polyglot humanity, mindlessly consuming their way to narrowly defined, government approved happiness under the watchful eyes of Ubermensch, like, well, you.
I'm in favor of individual liberty, with happiness being defined as whatever people want to do, provided they don't violate the rights of others.

I seem to recall that we have a word for this concept...

I believe it was, once, back in the dark ages of 2015, called libertarianism.

Someone, who will remain unnamed, negged the above with the comment "globalism is the opposite of liberty."

No, state power over the individual is the opposite of liberty.

Such state power manifests itself, inter alia, in the form of:

--restrictions on the movement of human beings across borders

--restrictions on the sale of goods across borders

--and, perhaps most importantly, the delivery of armies across borders

"Globalism" means opposing all of these things: free immigration, free trade, no war.

If you don't like that plan, okay, but then don't talk to me about liberty.
