Question Wiki: Kamala Harris identifies as black ; Political impact if she identified as "Indian"?

Cali politician Kamala Harris is half Indian-South Asian but according to Wiki identifies as "black":

    Kamala Harris
She identifies herself as black and sees her experience primarily as American.Harris was raised in Berkeley, California with her younger sister, Maya Harris. She grew up attending both a Black Baptist church, where she and her sister sang in the choir, and a Hindu temple.[13] As a child, Harris used to visit her extended family in Chennai and was reportedly close to her maternal grandfather P.V. Gopalan, a career civil servant for the federal Government of India
In 2017, Kamala D. Harris was sworn in as a United States Senator for California, the second African-American woman and first South Asian-American senator in history.

People have freedom to self-identify as they please but could political considerations be behind ambitious politician Kamala embracing only one half of her heritage?
This ofcourse does not automatically suggest political opportunism even if some of her political stances and evolution seem to.

Neocon media wing thse days seems to be pushing her as Dems VP candidate, in reality neocon-lite Kamala Harris would probably cost votes to Biden. If Biden is smart, he would think out of the box and also run a bipartisan unity ticket like GOP is and pick some libertarian identifying as republican as his VP.

On a different note, Kamala also does not seem to have genuine strong grassroots support base and weak political orphans tend to be and relatively easier targets for money baggers/lobbies/puppet masters to buy/manipulate as was seen in case of 'Nobel Peace Prize winner' Barack Hussein Obama drama. Unnecessary wars expansions and years of bloodbath destruction in Syria and beyond during Obama years , squemish political response to then Syria war pushers (likes of lowlife Andrew Adler of AJT Atlanta) should be another argument for keeping weak political pawns out of politics as much as possible regardless of how they identify as.

Kamala Harris on War & Peace

Ok with Israeli settlements in Palestinian territory

    • Senator Harris has been vocal about is her unconditional support for Israel. She told an American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference in 2017, "I will do everything in my power to ensure broad and bipartisan support for Israel's security and right to self-defense." When President Obama allowed the U.S. to join a UN Security Council resolution condemning Israeli settlements in Palestine as a "flagrant violation" of international law, Harris, Sen. Cory Booker and Sen. Amy Klobuchar were among 30 Democratic (and 47 Republican) senators who cosponsored a bill to withhold U.S. dues to the UN over the resolution.
    • Harris did join most of the other presidential candidates who chose not to speak at AIPAC's 2019 gathering.

Mindy Kaling’s brother pretended to be black to get into med school

Mindy Kaling's brother Vijay Chokal-Ingam is pictured right in both images as an Indian-American applicant (bottom) and as an African-American applicant (top). Chokal-Ingam was accepted to medical school by pretending to be an African-American applicant.
The big brother of Fox sitcom star Mindy Kaling reveals that he got into medical school by pretending to be African-American.
Fifteen years ago, Vijay Chokal-Ingam shaved off his straight black hair, trimmed what he calls his “long Indian eyelashes” and started checking off the “black” box for race on his med-school applications.
Before long, the Asian Indian-American was interviewing at Harvard and Columbia, and found himself on wait lists at the University of Pennsylvania, Washington University and Mt. Sinai — despite his relatively mediocre 3.1 GPA and his family’s considerable wealth.

    • Sen. Kamala Harris appeared at the top of former Vice President Joe Biden's handwritten notes with cryptic talking points including "do not hold grudges," "great help to campaign," and "great respect for her."
    • A photographer for the Associated Press captured Biden's notes at a campaign event in Wilmington, Delaware, on Tuesday. Biden did not field any questions specifically about Harris during the event.
    • The notes could be in response to a member of his vice presidential search committee expressing concern about Harris as Biden's running mate, citing their heated exchange on the debate stage last year over the subject of busing, Politico reported Monday.
    • Following months of anticipation, Biden is expected to announce his pick for vice president in the coming weeks, and Harris is on the shortlist for his running mate.

In all fairness, though she was inspired by progressive ideas, apparently her 'marxist father' did not approve of her corporate ties assuming this tweet is not fakenews:

NEW DELHI — For a girl from Berkeley, about 5 years old, the setting must have been intoxicating: a bungalow surrounded by greenery in a newly independent African capital, where children ran outside to wave at the president’s car as he drove past.
This was where a young Kamala Harris spent time in the late 1960s, at a house in Lusaka, Zambia, that belonged to her maternal grandfather, an Indian civil servant on assignment in an era of postcolonial ferment.
The Indian government had dispatched P.V. Gopalan to help Zambia manage an influx of refugees from Rhodesia — the former name of Zimbabwe — which had just declared independence from Britain. It was the capstone of a four-decade career that began when Gopalan joined government service fresh out of college in the 1930s, in the final years of British rule in India.

P.V. Gopalan, Kamala Harris’ grandfather, seen in India in an undated family photograph.

It was also the start of a relationship that would define Harris’ life. Until his death in 1998, Gopalan remained from thousands of miles away a pen pal and guiding influence — accomplished, civic-minded, doting, playful — who helped kindle Harris’ interest in public service.

Indian-American groups laud historic selection of Kamala Harris as Biden’s vice presidential candidate

Leading Indian-American groups across the US have lauded the selection of Indian-origin Senator Kamala Harris as the Vice Presidential candidate by Democratic party presidential nominee Joe Biden, saying it was a moment of pride and celebration for the entire community in America.
Biden on Tuesday named Harris as his Vice-Presidential running mate, making history by selecting the first black woman to compete on a major party’s presidential ticket.
Harris, 55, whose father is an African from Jamaica and mother an Indian, is currently the US Senator from California.
“What an electric moment for the Indian-American community! Indian-Americans are now truly a mainstream community in the national fabric,” M R Rangaswami, an eminent Indian-American and the founder of Indiaspora, told PTI.

“On a personal note, it’s great to have a woman on the ticket whose mother hails from my hometown of Chennai in India,” Rangaswami said.

Harris herself was a presidential aspirant until last year before she dropped out of the race because of lack of popular support.
Welcoming the decision, IMPACT, the leading Indian-American advocacy group and PAC, said that it will raise USD 10 million for the campaign.
