Cali politician Kamala Harris is half Indian-South Asian but according to Wiki identifies as "black":
Kamala Harris
She identifies herself as black and sees her experience primarily as American.Harris was raised in Berkeley, California with her younger sister, Maya Harris. She grew up attending both a Black Baptist church, where she and her sister sang in the choir, and a Hindu temple.[13] As a child, Harris used to visit her extended family in Chennai and was reportedly close to her maternal grandfather P.V. Gopalan, a career civil servant for the federal Government of India
In 2017, Kamala D. Harris was sworn in as a United States Senator for California, the second African-American woman and first South Asian-American senator in history.
People have freedom to self-identify as they please but could political considerations be behind ambitious politician Kamala embracing only one half of her heritage?
This ofcourse does not automatically suggest political opportunism even if some of her political stances and evolution seem to.
Neocon media wing thse days seems to be pushing her as Dems VP candidate, in reality neocon-lite Kamala Harris would probably cost votes to Biden. If Biden is smart, he would think out of the box and also run a bipartisan unity ticket like GOP is and pick some libertarian identifying as republican as his VP.
On a different note, Kamala also does not seem to have genuine strong grassroots support base and weak political orphans tend to be and relatively easier targets for money baggers/lobbies/puppet masters to buy/manipulate as was seen in case of 'Nobel Peace Prize winner' Barack Hussein Obama drama. Unnecessary wars expansions and years of bloodbath destruction in Syria and beyond during Obama years , squemish political response to then Syria war pushers (likes of lowlife Andrew Adler of AJT Atlanta) should be another argument for keeping weak political pawns out of politics as much as possible regardless of how they identify as.

Ok with Israeli settlements in Palestinian territory
- Senator Harris has been vocal about is her unconditional support for Israel. She told an American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference in 2017, "I will do everything in my power to ensure broad and bipartisan support for Israel's security and right to self-defense." When President Obama allowed the U.S. to join a UN Security Council resolution condemning Israeli settlements in Palestine as a "flagrant violation" of international law, Harris, Sen. Cory Booker and Sen. Amy Klobuchar were among 30 Democratic (and 47 Republican) senators who cosponsored a bill to withhold U.S. dues to the UN over the resolution.
- Harris did join most of the other presidential candidates who chose not to speak at AIPAC's 2019 gathering.

Mindy Kaling’s brother pretended to be black to get into med school

Mindy Kaling's brother Vijay Chokal-Ingam is pictured right in both images as an Indian-American applicant (bottom) and as an African-American applicant (top). Chokal-Ingam was accepted to medical school by pretending to be an African-American applicant.
The big brother of Fox sitcom star Mindy Kaling reveals that he got into medical school by pretending to be African-American.
Fifteen years ago, Vijay Chokal-Ingam shaved off his straight black hair, trimmed what he calls his “long Indian eyelashes” and started checking off the “black” box for race on his med-school applications.
Before long, the Asian Indian-American was interviewing at Harvard and Columbia, and found himself on wait lists at the University of Pennsylvania, Washington University and Mt. Sinai — despite his relatively mediocre 3.1 GPA and his family’s considerable wealth.
