There's a big push going tight now. Rand tweeted about it on Twitter.
"Foreign aid is taking money from the poor people of a rich country, and giving it to the rich people of a poor country." - Ron Paul
"Beware the Military-Industrial-Financial-Pharma-Corporate-Internet-Media-Government Complex." - B4L update of General Dwight D. Eisenhower
"Debt is the drug, Wall St. Banksters are the dealers, and politicians are the addicts." - B4L
"Totally free immigration? I've never taken that position. I believe in national sovereignty." - Ron Paul

Seems interesting. I don't have a Twitter to begin with so I can't say I'll use Parler.

If it gains too much traction it will be deplatformed from the app stores like gab was. Rand tweeting about it could be helpful. Have enough legit users on there so it's not seen as a 100% alt-right platform. Meantime, Mastodon cannot be deplatformed because it's a protocol. Someone can always write a new app for it.

Apple may already be doing that. They told the founder that free speech apps in the past got too popular too fast so they had to be taken off the apple store.

Ya, well, I mean that's pretty typical and kinda how it goes. I remember when I owned a store and kept selling the crap out of something, I had to go to the supplier and let him know I would no longer be stocking it, as it was far too popular.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think parler is likely going to be just another off-brand tech ghetto for dissidents. Maybe more successful than gab or Minds, but not a true competitor. Alt-tech is one of our best hopes, but they need to step their game up.

Woke tech needs to be taken on with means other than just the market.

When there is "something to do" the medium of communication is secondary.

The right does a lot of whining about de-platforming like it's the apocalypse. It's only the apocalypse because it seems that all the right wants to do these days is talk.

When RP 2008 happened we worked from an existing position of being de-platformed. However, since we had a defined goal, it didn't stop us and we organized with whatever we had. The tools were secondary. We used Meetup, online forums, moneybombs, youtube videos, neighborhood sign-waving, bumper stickers, whatever was available.

What blocks us is not tools and fancy "platforms" with bells and whistles. We lack a defined goal that dovetails with the common vision.

We could still have neighborhood meetings and mail each other physical newsletters if we had the drive.

The problem is we don't have the drive to organize. That's the "why" we should be asking. Where is the spirit? Where did it go?

Oh, I'm there by the way, just because of Rand's tweet:

    @wizardwatson

I rarely post on social media though.

Eye-Popping 500k Users Flock to Twitter Competitor After Twitter Shuts Down Pro-Trump Accounts

    By Rudy Takala
    Jun 25th, 2020

A whopping 500,000 users signed up for social-media platform Parler after Twitter shut down two conservative accounts this week, according to user metrics obtained by Mediaite.

The surge brings the two-year-old platform’s total number of users to 1.5 million, according to data provided by the company, an increase of 50 percent. The company, co-founded in 2018 by John Matze and Jared Thomson, bills itself as a “non-biased free speech” alternative to Twitter that applies broadcast standards to content its users publish — meaning it doesn’t censor political speech, but does prohibit certain content, such as hardcore pornography, that Twitter permits.

The development comes after Twitter on Tuesday banned Carpe Donktum, a well-known meme creator whose content is often shared by President Donald Trump, and locked an account belonging to National Pulse editor Raheem Kassam. Those actions sparked outcry from conservatives who encouraged users to join Parler, including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who on Thursday said he had joined the platform because it “gets what free speech is all about.”

Companies like Apple are the enemy of free speech. Tired of apologists saying these tech giants have the right to stifle free speech when they own the means of a majority of digital communication. Probably would defend mobile phone companies censoring plain text messages that have certain keywords in them

I agree with everything you said except this. The Ron Paul movement != The Right. We were fighting a lot of "the right" in 2008 and 2012. Ron Paul spoke out more against how the drug war disproportionately affected black people than did Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. Our goal was to get Ron Paul, and later Rand Paul elected president. "The right" just wanted a republican president and someone who would make immigration front and center. "The right" already accomplished its goal. "The right" has no interest in ending the fed or rolling back the police state or ending foreign wars. "The right" has given some lip service to that (at least Trump hasn't started any new ones) to placate the libertarian wing, but they still don't like us. "The right" has made some accomplishments on criminal justice reform for the same reason. If we want to accomplish something as a movement, it has to be independent of "the right" as opposed to being identified as "the right."
