Secure Technology Alliance Rolls Out Online Resource to Promote mDL Adoption in U.S.

    May 28, 2020

Secure Technology Alliance has introduced an online educational resource to promote the adoption of mobile driver’s licenses (mDLs) to provide digital identity in the U.S.

mDLConnection.com will educate users on how the technology can be used and deployed across the country. In April, Secure Technology Alliance published a white paper with guidelines for mDLs adoption, technicalities, standards and privacy challenges.

“Identity is changing – the most common form of state-issued ID is coming to our mobile phones, which creates opportunities for everyone to use these digital identities in a new way. Having a singular, trusted source for information on mDLs and how they work is essential during this transition towards a new identity ecosystem,” said Randy Vanderhoof, executive director of the Secure Technology Alliance, in a prepared statement. “The Alliance is building a cross-industry group of experts and potential end users to help advance the standards and security principles necessary to fulfill the potential of mDLs. On mDLConnection.com we’ve created a central hub for the resources and materials necessary for relying parties to understand what this technology is, where it can be used and what the considerations are for them, specifically.”

The resource hub has received support from industry stakeholders such as motor vehicle agencies, driver’s license technology providers, mobile technology providers, security providers, testing organizations, and relying parties including retailers, financial institutions and government security agencies, the Alliance claims.

On the platform users can access a knowledgebase that explains mDL technology, applications and implementations. They can sign up for webinars, events and activities, read news about the technology in the U.S. and also view an implementation tracker map across all states.

Not only has the Alliance released a white paper, but an mDL FAQ is also available to provide answers for any questions that might arise and to accelerate awareness.

The Alliance is currently hosting a four-part webinar series on mDLs and their impact on identity verification. The first part occurred in April and is available on their website for review. The upcoming session, planned for May 28, is titled “mDL Use Cases on Day One and Beyond,” and will focus on existing and future capabilities.

Is is legitimate for any government entity to compile information on individuals, or groups of individuals, if they have not committed a crime, and store that information?

Passports were supposed to be “temporary” until after the war was over. Driver Licenses are now common and celebrated at 16 years old, even when interstate commerce is not taking place. TSA stores information, people flock to purchase Pre-Check to assist government agents in “allowing” you to travel, as well as know where you go.

At what point will people say STOP? After it is too late to do a single thing about it? Or are you accepting to all of this?

The FBI has been caught on several occasions retaining NICS data beyond the legally prescribed limit suffering no meaningful consequences for their flagrant violations of federal law.
