Conservatives Call Out Trump For Attacking GOP Rep. Thomas Massie: ‘Your Tweet is BS’

Conservatives and libertarians called out President Donald Trump for attacking Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), Friday, after Trump called the congressman a “third rate Grandstander” who should be thrown out of the Republican Party.

Trump attacked Massie for opposing the coronavirus relief bill, which the congressman described as “not a good deal.”

Following the president’s attack, loyal Trump supporter Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) called Massie “a good man and a solid conservative.”

“He believes in the Constitution strongly. We won’t always agree on strategy or policy. But he doesn’t warrant this dressing down,” Gosar tweeted. “Thomas—Hang tough brother.”

The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh also defended Massie, declaring, “Massie is a good congressman, this bill is garbage, and calling for a good conservative to be thrown out of the party because he doesn’t want to vote for a garbage bill is itself a garbage move.”

Rand is only spared from a Twitter barrage from Trump because he has made himself a foreign policy advisor to the President, and most importantly he hasn’t backstabbed him and has became his friend. Yes Rand votes against the GOP/Trump, but he is a rare trustworthy advisor in the current political climate.

Trump likely is attacking Massie as it makes him look “bipartisan”, and Massie is disposable to Trump. Trump would rather have a loyal MAGA follower in that seat than Massie. The great irony would be if Massie still won the GOP primary by a hair, but then, made unpopular by Trump, loses his seat to a Democrat.

Thomas called for a roll call, the Speaker Pro Tem asked everyone wanting a roll call to rise. Without even looking up (reading from his script) he says there are not enough members requesting a roll call.


So Thomas demand a quorum count. Again, without even looking up, and reading from the script, the Speaker Pro Tem says there is indeed a quorum.


The bill passes on a voice vote.

The Fake Outrage at Rep. Thomas Massie is Outrageous

During the debate on the $2 trillion coronavirus stimulus bill, one of the most consequential pieces of legislation in contemporary history, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) did something appalling.

With the agreement of both Republicans and Democrats in House leadership, the Speaker blocked a recorded vote on the bill. It is an old leadership trick to protect members from controversial votes by not forcing them to take a position.

In retrospect, this is going to be one of the most important votes the sitting members of Congress will ever take, yet they came up with excuses not to have to cast a recorded vote. History seems to be repeating itself. When the House was forced back in 2008 to vote on the Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP), that vote inspired a rebellion and the creation of Tea Party.

Although the coronavirus economic disruption was caused by government, not bad private-sector mortgage loans, Congress took great liberties to load up this bill with pet projects and inflated appropriations. While every cultural center in America has suffered from the coronavirus economic mess, the Washington, D.C. based Kennedy Center was given a special $25 million bailout, as were the National Endowment for the Arts and other projects that have strong support of congressional insiders.

This is not how Congress is supposed to work. Representatives are actually paid to draft up and vote on legislation without self-dealing. For all the faults of the Senate, they took a recorded vote on the legislation and did their job.

Trump Kicks Himself As He Calls to Kick Conservative Thomas Massie Out of GOP

President Donald Trump is inexplicably calling for Republicans to remove Rep. Thomas Massie from their party. For what? For whom? This latest example of Trump treating his supporters worse than the Never Trumper crowd could impact his 2020 prospects.

Despite attacks from across the political establishment, mainstream media, and the president himself, the Kentucky congressman is slowly gaining recognition as the heroic underdog he is.

Trump calls Massie a “do nothing,” “third rate grandstander” who should be thrown out of the Republican Party. Was 2015 that long ago that the president can’t recall this same onslaught against him that helped seal his populist bonafides?

Massie’s crime was demanding a roll call vote on the $2.2 trillion coronavirus stimulus bill that Trump just signed. It spends more than twice what FDR’s New Deal cost, and yes that accounts for inflation. It’s the most expensive legislation in American history.

The Constitution is on Massie’s side, not only when it comes to his refusal to support the bailout bill, but also in terms of the political process that Massie exposed. The Congress was set to use “unanimous consent” to pass the bill, without even showing up to the nation’s capital.

House Republican leaders actively participated in Nancy Pelosi’s successful attempt to deny the American people a public vote on the $2 trillion legislation.

Ten years ago, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) infamously proclaimed that we had to pass Obamacare to find out what was in it. On Friday, she and her House colleagues enacted one of the largest pieces of legislation in American history, a more than $2 trillion bill that represented Congress’ third piece of coronavirus-related legislation, all while refusing to take a recorded position on it.

The first coronavirus bill, signed into law on March 6, provided $8.3 billion in spending to fight the virus; the second bill, signed into law on March 18, spent another $100 billion on testing, food stamps, paid family leave, and additional subsdies to to state Medicaid programs; and the third bill, which President Trump signed last Friday, contained a broader package of unemployment and economic bailouts to businesses and families.

That Pelosi would resort to such procedural chicanery should surprise few Americans. In 2010 she wanted the House to enact Obamacare without actually voting on the legislation—the so-called “deem-and-pass” maneuver—although she eventually abandoned that strategy after a massive public outcry.

But unlike the Obamacare debate, House Republican leaders and many rank-and-file members of Congress actively participated in Pelosi’s successful attempt to deny the American people a vote on the legislation. In so doing, they abdicated their responsibilities as lawmakers and leaders out of a mixture of fear and spite.

Rep. Thomas Massie Did Not Grandstand

House leaders took the same tack with Massie last week, enlisting President Trump to attack the congressman. On Friday morning, Trump called Massie a “third rate grandstander” for insisting that members of Congress return to Washington to vote on the legislation.

But to someone well-versed in House procedure, the facts indicate otherwise. Massie had multiple other opportunities to throw sand in the proverbial gears regarding Friday’s coronavirus bill, but did not do so:

I now officially do not care if Trump wins or loses. Yes we'll get 4 years of Biden if he doesn't get overtaken by Alzheimer's first. But in 2024 the "we don't care how much of a jackass and RHINO this guy is as long as he promises to build wall, play to his base and be obnoxious to everyone we don't like" argument will be dead. No matter what happens in 2020, Paul / Maddie 2024!

Yeah he has been mean on twitter to Massie and drove Amash OUT of the party. Two of OUR guys. Then there is Sanford he also went to town on who is decent. You don't see him ever calling out a neocon or anyone else really do you? Says it all. I'm shocked he has remained friendly with Rand so much. I think he is careful when dealing with senators as they represent states and have more influence so he likes to pick on Congressmen like a good bully. He has said nothing about Sen. Burr and him selling his stock before the economy was shut down so there's another example.

“…& costly,” Trump continued in a follow-up tweet. “Workers & small businesses need money now in order to survive. Virus wasn’t their fault. It is ‘HELL’ dealing with the Dems, had to give up some stupid things in order to get the ‘big picture’ done. 90% GREAT! WIN BACK HOUSE, but throw Massie out of Republican Party!”

Since when has expecting Congress to do its job been cause to expel an elected member? And why is wanting to see votes recorded instead of masked through a voice vote deemed objectionable by the political elite?
