Rand votes in line with Trump 69% of the time. The lowest of any GOP senator. Some how they remain friendly...

Its simple. Trump doesn't know Massie, doesn't know his intentions. Some decent advisor probably told Trump the real reason after the fact. Most people were mad at Massie from the get go, after they understood it was for a recorded vote, they changed their mind. The media blew this up too, to make it look like a Republican was holding up the relief bill. Since Trump has gotten to know Rand and his intentions, he hasn't attacked even though Rand has stood up against some of Trump's favorite legislations.

Unfortunately Rand has been willing to compromise principle a few times to appease Trump. Selling power for access. Known as the "Access trap" in politics.

What has he compromised on? He votes with Trump the lowest of any GOP seantor but still remains friendly with him. It's a puzzle because Massie has exactly the same voting record but in the House yet receives Trump's ire on twitter.

Can you figure it out Matt ?

I think its maybe because Rand is a senator and represents a state or is simply more famous than Massie and Donald likes celebrities more than say an unkown House member. That's maybe why he feels he can be the bully.

He voted for FixNICs and No-Fly-No-Buy. He also supported Pompeo and Kavanaugh which were grave and unforgiveable mistakes.

He should NOT have voted for Fix NICs.

However, he hasn't sold out otherwise why is he still opposing Trump on all the spending & Iran?

No its not selling out. It's not unusual for a senator to go with the party for nominations.

If he really sold out he would be going along with all the deficit spending and cheerleading for war against Iran. He is making speeches opposing the president's policies in key areas unlike any other GOP senator who HAS truly sold out and is just there for the perks and paycheck .

Mike Lee and Rand Paul are truly unique within their party and the WHOLE Senate, perhaps in 50 years. Quit trying to pretend they're not just because he voted for the president pick for an office (its not a big deal, they will get the office with or without Rand's vote).

You can see all Rand's votes here (https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com...ore/rand-paul/).

They include rebukes for the President on Yemen, Iran, budgets etc. And in some cases these votes are consequential and he would have had a lot of arm twisting to vote the other way.

You make it sound like Rand is comparable to Lemar Alexander, Marco Rubio or Graham or any other of the gang i.e just go along with everything and incapable of independent thought.

As you can see from the URL Rand votes with Trump the least of any senator...

    FreedomWorks Score: 98%

    http://congress.freedomworks.org/legislators/rand-paul

You can see all the legislation there and how he has voted.

    JBS Score:94%

    https://www.thenewamerican.com/index...nameid=P000603

Lots of details on legislation there and how Rand Paul voted.

    He has hardly 'sold out'

Yes voting to confirm an individual for office who is nearly 100% against your principles is selling out. In terms of Iran, Rand has gotten caught in the access trap where he is close to Trump but doesn't have any real power. Access is not power.

While finding common ground can be a useful tactic sometimes, in current situation wrt GOPA wing, your point is not without merit.

Like does Donald John Trump think that the word "Libertarian" is as much of a four letter swear word, as the word Liberal OFTEN is.... for many of his Trumpster backers and supporters??? ----- Does he not realize that Doctor Rand needs the feedback from Representative Massie so Senator Rand can get an idea of what Congress is actually doing behind the scenes? i still think DJT has his own version of a classic Nixonian "enemies list" and can turn on a Watergate Hotel dime when the whim hits/subsumes him.

Wasn't the Nixon admin accused of allegedly spying on their political opponent by breaking into a hotel room and rifling through documents?

Obama admin made up false evidence to get an illegal FISA warrant to use the security apparatus of the United States to spy on the Trump campaign, their political opponent.

Which of the above two seems worse to you?

When the arrests come, I hope you understand.

classic 1800s economic "liberals" were often not too libertine but they could be libertarian! FDR inspired a generation of NEW DEAL liberals.

Weld's long-shot bid was at one point focused on winning over moderate Republicans in New Hampshire. Trump won the New Hampshire primary in February with 85.7% of the vote, compared to Weld's 9.2%.
Weld had some national name recognition from when he was the vice presidential nominee on the Libertarian ticket in 2016 with former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson. He was governor of New Hampshire's neighbor, Massachusetts, from 1991 to 1997, and won reelection there with more than 70% of the vote.
Weld is a fierce critic of Trump, and, last April, he called for the President to resign. Weld wrote in an op-ed that Trump's "rampant dishonesty and paranoia render him incapable of serving as president."
"It's time to plant a flag," Weld told CNN in a phone interview in the fall about why he launched a presidential bid. "Otherwise I'm right there with everyone else saying, 'Gee, I love the emperor's new clothes.' This emperor doesn't have any new clothes."
