As U.S. Soldiers Deploy Amid the Coronavirus Pandemic, They Fight Two Battles
June 17, 2020
FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) — Edward Brown has always found a way to deal with his husband’s military deployments in the past, but the most recent one felt different. Instead of an endless parade of family visits and last-minute errands, Brown and Staff Sgt. James Clyde were holed up inside their Fayetteville, North Carolina, apartment watching Netflix and making TikTok videos.
When his mandatory two-week quarantine ended last Friday, Clyde made the short drive to Fort Bragg and boarded a plane for a nine-month deployment in the Middle East.
The 34-year-old is among 2,200 paratroopers assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team deploying to Iraq and Syria amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking from the presidential plane, Mr Trump said that if Iraq asked US forces to depart on an unfriendly basis, "we will charge them sanctions like they've never seen before, ever. It'll make Iranian sanctions look somewhat tame."

Even so, Iran poses threat to our closest allies in mideast, including the only non-racist democracy in mideast.
Have to admit that he has openly called for 'sanctions', 'economic warfare'. But in all fairness, his top funder is a very rich globalist neocon who had called for 'nuking Iran' and that can bring lot of pressures even if a public servant tried to avoid being a 'perfect little puppet'.
Maybe someday in future when some very rich candidate can win election, puppet masters pressures and 'follow the money' factors would no longer come into play.

'4,000 US troops to Stay in Afghanistan Post-Election': LA Times
Currently, the US has approximately 8,600 soldiers in Afghanistan, according to the latest reports.
"Top US commanders believe they have tentative White House approval to leave just over 4,000 US troops in Afghanistan beyond November, delaying a full American pullout until after the presidential election," says a report by the Los Angeles Times, citing unnamed US officials.
“The plan, worked out at a meeting between Pentagon and White House officials late last month, would represent an about-face for President Trump. He has pushed for a complete withdrawal of the 8,600 troops now in Afghanistan by the election, seeing a pullout as a much-needed foreign policy achievement as his reelection prospects have deteriorated,” the report said.

How Many U.S. Troops Are in the Middle East?
President Trump recently deployed an additional 3,500 troops to the Middle East following the killing of Iran’s Gen. Qassem Soleimani.
By USAFacts, Contributor Jan. 9, 2020,
The U.S. military presence abroad jumped recently when 3,500 troops were deployed to the Middle East after President Donald Trump ordered a drone strike in Iraq that killed Iran's top military leader, Gen. Qassem Soleimani.
[ READ:
Trump Sends 3,000 More U.S. Troops to Middle East ]
That adds to the thousands of troops already in the region. But exactly how many Americans are currently deployed to the Middle East?
In short, the data to answer this question isn't fully public, though based on available government data and documents, there may be over 80,000 military personnel in the region.

A U.S. service member died in Syria on Tuesday, according to military officials in the region.
The individual, whose service branch hasn’t been released yet, was assigned to the Operation Inherent Resolve coalition.
“Initial reports indicate the incident was not due to enemy contact,” reads a brief Inherent Resolve press release sent Tuesday afternoon. “The incident is under investigation.”
The individual’s identity will be released after their next of kin have been notified, Inherent Resolve officials stated.
There have been four hostile deaths and five non-combat deaths under the Inherent Resolve mission this year. All of the combat deaths have been in Iraq.
An airman and a soldier were killed in mid-March during a rocket attack on Camp Taji. Prior to that, two Marine Raiders were killed in Iraq’s southern Makhmur Mountains while clearing a tunnel complex full of Islamic State fighters.
Nearly 150 U.S. service members have been wounded in action this year, as well.

House Democrats, Working With Liz Cheney, Restrict Trump’s Planned Withdrawal of Troops From Afghanistan and Germany
The U.S. military has been fighting in Afghanistan for almost nineteen years. House Democrats, working in tandem with key pro-war GOP lawmakers such as Rep. Liz Cheney, are ensuring that continues.
Last night, the House Armed Services Committee voted overwhelmingly in favor of an amendment — jointly sponsored by Democratic Congressman Jason Crow of Colorado and Congresswoman Cheney of Wyoming — prohibiting the expenditure of monies to reduce the number of U.S. troops deployed in Afghanistan below 8,000 without a series of conditions first being met.
The imposed conditions are by no means trivial: for these troop reductions from Afghanistan to be allowed, the Defense Department must be able to certify, among other things, that leaving Afghanistan “will not increase the risk for the expansion of existing or formation of new terrorist safe havens inside Afghanistan” and “will not compromise or otherwise negatively affect the ongoing United States counter terrorism mission against the Islamic State, al Qaeda, and associated forces.”
The Crow/Cheney amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) last night passed by a vote of 45-11. The NDAA was then unanimously approved by the Committee by a vote of 56-0. It authorizes $740.5 billion in military spending — roughly three times more than the world’s second-highest spender, China.

Uh, Trump doesn't need Congress to withdraw them. Congress has no say in what the Commander-in-Chief does about troop deployments and removals unless Congress repeals the legislation that allowed the powers for deployment in the first place. Trump can sign an executive order today ordering full immediate withdraw and there's not a damn thing Congress can do about it.
In reality, what we see here is a dog-n-pony show so that Trump can claim he's removing troops, the Trumpkins believe it because it's a Breitbart headline (so it must be true!), and then Congress puts up a phony opposition so Congress takes the blame when it doesn't happen. Trumpkins then either believe that the withdrawal actually happened because they never saw the subsequent blame placed on Congress or they claim "Congress is stopping our President again! Damn Democrats!" Trump comes up smelling like roses to the idiots who don't understand controlled opposition tactics or understand the Commander-in-Chief's powers.

It's always been that way. Congress authorizes initial troop deployments under war declarations or unconstitutional AUMFs, which turns over authority to Commander-in-Chief to carry it out. No declaration/AUMF requires indefinite troop deployments, however, and Congress can't micromanage what the CiC does under that AUMF. Non-binding resolutions is the best they can do, other than repeal the declaration/AUMF that started it. The fact that I've posted this to these types of threads multiple times and there is never a "42D chess" reply from the Trumpkins tells you it is accurate. They simply can't spin it.

Trump administration set to label human rights groups ‘antisemitic’ for criticizing Israel
"By smearing leading human rights organizations as 'antisemitic,' the corrupt and increasingly authoritarian Trump Administration is escalating its relentless war on human rights, justice, and the truth" - Palestinian BDS National Committee
By Michael Arria October 22, 2020
At Politico, Nahal Toosi reports that the Trump administration might soon declare that number of prominent human rights organizations as antisemitic and discourage other governments from supporting them, all due to these organizations’ alleged support for the BDS movement.
The announcement could happen as early as this week and it’s expected to take the form of a report from the office of Elan Carr, the U.S. special envoy to monitor and combat anti-Semitism. Organizations that would be targeted include Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and Oxfam. A congressional aide told Toosi that the effort is being spearheaded by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who is contemplating a future presidential run and looking to curry favor with pro-Israel evangelicals.

Ending the Myth That Trump Is Ending the Wars
Trump is not ending wars, but preparing for more war. Over the past year, he has deployed 14,000 more troops in the Middle East — beyond the tens of thousands already there.
Top U.S. General Says We Pay a Price for Backing Israel
Marine Corps General James Mattis, who retired May 22 as chief of the U.S. Central Command, in charge of U.S. forces in the Middle East, said in a speech at the prestigious Aspen Security Forum in Colorado last Saturday (July 20) that America needs to work “with a sense of urgency” to achieve a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, because resentment of U.S. support for Israel hurts America militarily throughout the region.
He said the “current situation is unsustainable” and that America must act “with a sense of urgency” toward a two-state solution, because the chances “are starting to ebb because of the settlements and where they’re at.” If it fails, he said, the result will be “apartheid.” And then this bombshell:
I paid a military-security price every day as the commander of CentCom because the Americans were seen as biased in support of Israel.Mattis’ predecessor as chief of CentCom, General David Petraeus, made much the same point in a briefing paper he submitted to the Senate Armed Services Committee in March 2010, shortly before he handed CentCom over to Mattis. The passage on Israel (on Page 12) caused an explosive reaction (here is what the ADL had to say), though his actual testimony was far more equivocal than his written report.

Candidate Trump decried the national debt in 2016 and promised to eliminate it. It's only gotten bigger.
Ledyard King, USA TODAY
6:41 a.m. EDT Oct. 27, 2020
Donald Trump ran for president as an outsider decrying the mounting national debt, which had surged under Barack Obama as he guided the nation out of a deep recession and implemented his health care programs.
"We can't send another politician to the White House," Trump tweeted on July 24, 2015, a few weeks after he announced his candidacy for the presidency.
Several months before the 2016 election, Trump pledged he would be able to eliminate the national debt – then around $19 trillion – “over a period of eight years.”
In an interview with the Washington Post, the future president said that his plan to renegotiate trade deals with foreign countries would create surpluses that would help draw down the debt.
DC has shrunk our military and exploded our country with debt. We can’t send another politician to the White House https://t.co/u25yI6aIvG
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 24, 2015
A few weeks later, Trump backpedaled a bit, telling Fortune magazine he would reduce some – but not all – of the debt because he wanted to spend on his priorities.
"It depends on how aggressive you want to be," Trump told Fortune. "I'd rather not be so aggressive. Don't forget: We have to rebuild the infrastructure of our country. We have to rebuild our military, which is being decimated by bad decisions. We have to do a lot of things."

WASHINGTON ― Weeks after the U.S. military was blindsided by President Donald Trump’s assertion that all U.S. troops will be out of Afghanistan by the end of the year, a top lawmaker on defense says there was no actual plan to withdraw troops by Christmas.
House Armed Services Committee Chairman Adam Smith on Thursday echoed U.S. officials who have reportedly said there were not aware of the plan and received no actual order to accelerate the gradual pullout they’ve been executing. The military will continue a gradual pullout, Smith said.
