Dailybeast: Trump Just Hired Jeffrey Epstein’s Lawyers

Dailybeast might not be as reliable as MSM's CNN, Foxnews, NYT etc., let's wait till confirmation before jumping to any conclusions.

Donald Trump is lawyering up for his impeachment trial with a team that looks surprisingly similar to that of billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

The president bolstered his legal team Friday with attorneys Alan Dershowitz and Kenneth Starr, who helped Epstein evade prison time in a now infamously lenient plea deal with Palm Beach prosecutors. Epstein originally faced multiple charges of soliciting and trafficking underage girls, but escaped with just 13 months of house arrest in a deal that caused Trump’s Labor Secretary Alex Acosta to resign under pressure last year.

A suit unveiled by Virgin Islands prosecutors this week alleges Epstein continued to traffic and abuse girls as young as 12 on his private islands until 2018, a decade after Starr and Dershowitz helped him walk free. Epstein died of suicide before facing trafficking charges in New York last year.

Dershowitz, who has also represented controversial celebrities like O.J. Simpson and Patty Hearst, will present oral arguments at Trump’s Senate trial, a spokesperson for the president's legal team told CNN. He previously helped negotiate the non-prosecution deal for Epstein and continued to represent him until at least December 2018. He was also accused of sexually abusing one of Epstein’s victims, Virginia Roberts Giuffre. Dershowtiz has denied the allegation.

    1) they are celebrity lawyers. Trump loves celebrities.

    2) they got Epstein off (basically- he was allowed work release six days a week while anybody else would be in jail 24 hours).

    https://www.nhpr.org/post/how-jeffre...rison#stream/0

Epstein avoided major punishment for his crimes, due to a deal his lawyers worked out with the then-district attorney in Miami, Alexander Acosta. Acosta is now President Trump’s labor secretary and he oversees agencies charged with stopping human trafficking.

Epstein pled guilty to two felony charges in state court. In exchange, he and his associates received immunity from federal sex-trafficking charges, and the investigation was sealed — hiding Epstein’s crimes from the view of the public and other victims.

Epstein had a heavy-hitting team of attorneys, including Alan Dershowitz and Kenneth Starr. And Epstein’s privileges didn’t stop with his sentencing.

    More from the story:

Unlike other convicted sex offenders, Epstein didn’t face the kind of rough justice that child sex offenders do in Florida state prisons. Instead of being sent to state prison, Epstein was housed in a private wing of the Palm Beach County jail. And rather than having him sit in a cell most of the day, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office allowed Epstein work release privileges, which enabled him to leave the jail six days a week, for 12 hours a day, to go to a comfortable office that Epstein had set up in West Palm Beach. This was granted despite explicit sheriff’s department rules stating that sex offenders don’t qualify for work release.
It is good to have friends in high places.

    ^this.

Don't get any more celeberity than Epstein, OJ Simpson, Weinstein etc.

Even Alex Acosta could be seen as sort of celeb to in some circles though he may not be as terrific or highly respected.

It's amazing how little attention you guys pay to what is going on and how much you rely on the mainstream media to inform you.

The news is talking all about how Dershowitz "got Epstein off with a light sentence" back in 2008, but what they are not talking about is about how Dershowitz helped fund the lawsuit to release the court documents from one of Epstein's victims lawsuits.

That lawsuit resulted in the judge determining that the documents should be released - a week later Epstein was arrested in New York.

So Dershowitz is also partly responsible for Epstein being arrested last year.

If you want to know where the corruption was in the 2005-2008 Epstein case, look at the prosecution.. and ask Alex Acosta.

I'm pretty sure every legal mind in the country agrees that Dersh is one of the top legal minds in the country, if not the top.

There is no convincing evidence that he knew the extent of what Epstein was doing or was involved.

Yes, there was the accusation by Giuffre, but I'm not convinced he would help put Epstein in prison in order to fend off that accusation. That doesn't even make very much sense. But that is the theory of why he helped put Epstein in prison. I suppose it is possible, but I'm not going to assume it is true without further evidence.

    That's a valid point.
He apparently knew about his ties to a foreign country ( that happens to be close to the heart of all parties involved ), there is no reliable proof outside of any fringe sourced conspiracy theories that he knews about the full extent of Epstein's activities that made headlines recently.

Epstein, a 66-year-old former hedge fund manager, supported many Jewish causes and Zionist organizations, and was on the board of the Wexner Foundation, which is devoted to Israel. He had friendships with many Israel supporters, from Alan Dershowitz to Howard Rubenstein to Ehud Barak to Larry Summers. And there is speculation that Epstein, a mysterious international figure, had links to Israeli intelligence.
Dershowitz, Epstein’s former lawyer, says Israel is a factor in the case. Two days ago Dersh published an op-ed for Newsmax aimed at preempting the New Yorker’s anticipated expose of his role in the case (one of Epstein’s victims says that she was compelled to have sex with Dershowitz. He denies the charges, but he has admitted getting a massage at Epstein’s mansion.). Dershowitz says the New Yorker is trying to hurt Netanyahu.

Among other things, such headlines could create doubts about MAGA judgement that he hired a defender who gets his own clients locked up?

The country is not ready for any more 'lock her/him up' type controversies.

And to be fair, he did help OJ Simpson, alleged Israeli plunderer of Congo and others avoid being locked up.

So Mossad helped get Epstein arrested and kick this whole thing off?

I'm curious what your explanation might be for doing that.

That may be the case but it doesn't explain why they would have him arrested in the first place.

Dwell a little longer and harder on that. You should come up with the answer as to why he was arrested the second time.
It has something to do with who and where he was brought... and for what reason..

There was no advantageous reason to have him arrested just to kill him.

They would have been much happier with him still free and running their operation for them.

Unless someone they didn't control was behind the new charges, new evidence and new publicity, that someone is who is responsible for his arrest.

Epstein Allegedly Directed Second Woman to Have Sex with Harvard Prof. Dershowitz, Court Documents State

Court documents filed in a recently settled lawsuit against billionaire, Harvard donor, and convicted sex offender Jeffrey E. Epstein allege Epstein directed a second woman to have sex with Harvard Law Professor Emeritus Alan M. Dershowitz.

The new charge against Dershowitz came to light during a Nov. 7 hearing in a lawsuit filed by Sarah Ransome against Epstein, his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, and several others, the Miami Herald reported Wednesday. Ransome alleges Epstein and Maxwell trafficked her for sex in 2006 and 2007.

Epstein — who holds strong ties to the University through multi-million dollar donations and close relationships with high-profile affiliates — was first charged with operating a sex ring of underage girls out of his Palm Beach, Fla. home in 2005. At the time, Dershowitz served on the seven-person legal team that struck a plea deal with prosecutors on Epstein’s behalf, the Herald reported in a three-part feature last month.

During the Nov. 7 hearing, Maxwell’s lawyer, Laura Menninger, mentioned Dershowitz’s name as one of several “third party” persons Ransome alleges Epstein directed her to have sex with, the New York Daily News first reported. The transcript of that hearing, once publicly available, has since been sealed.

Monica Lewinksy was among those expressing shock Friday morning after it was announced that Ken Starr and Robert Ray—both of whom served as special prosecutors in the investigation that led to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton in the 1990s—were appointed by President Donald Trump to be part of his legal defense team during the U.S. Senate's impeachment trial.

this is definitely an “are you $#@!ing kidding me?” kinda day.

As Politico reports, Starr and Ray, along with Harvard Law School's Alan Dershowitz and former Florida attorney general Pam Bondi, will "serve as clean-up hitters behind White House counsel Pat Cipollone and Jay Sekulow" for Trump's six-person team of lawyers.
Trump's legal "dream team" left other critics also unimpressed:

Pretty sure the last time Alan Dershowitz and Ken Starr were on the same legal team was when they were working to keep Jeffery Epstein out of prison in Florida https://t.co/g1ibM1VCqM
