Anyone who fought against ISIS in order to protect the Christians of Syria is not an 'evil' man. Rand should know better.
Great interview. Rand said diplomacy is over and peace is unlikely. He also predicted that anti-American sentiment will mean the Iraqi's vote to kick out the troops. He said that's the irony of people who want us to stay there forever like Lindsey Graham.

Something along those lines is mentioned in Tucker Carlsons interview with Douglas MacGregor... Since Iraq's parliament is likely to demand we leave now, Trump should just "seize the moment" and get us out.

Of course he was evil. He was essentially the Iranian version of the head of the CIA. You cannot hold that type of a position and have any conscience. He was not especially religious, but he was loyal to his country. He seemed very good at forming, then exploiting, coalitions.
I doubt he was overtly concerned with the plight of the Syrian Christians, but if there was an ally to be had by taking that position, then it isn't surprising he took it.
Also, he was an old man. I suspect that he would happily martyr himself if it meant getting the troops out of Iraq. That was his mission.
Rand's stance will get a boost after this vote:
