Until fairly recently (and even now not by much) my family probably qualified for every program/assistance the gov could provide. But I never took and never will take a dime. My family is well clothed and we'll fed and I make sure of that. I worked two or three jobs just to pay hospital bills for 3 kids in 4 years....and a gall bladder removal in between (and yes I had insurance). No one could understand why I never got on wic or chips or Medicaid or whatever. I also finished my degree later than most b/c I paid for everything when due....and there were more than a few semesters I didn't enroll.

But I was raised that way, and want my kids see the same thing I saw in my dad.

It is extremely frustrating to know that my kids will probably have an even harder time than I did. And not just with that problem, but with everything. And not just from other cultures but our own too.
