U.S.A. – -(Ammoland.com)- “Let’s talk reality and fantasy in Virginia,” Washington Post columnist Petula Dvorak instructs her readers in a Monday opinion piece that does exactly that, although, not as she intended (at least with those informed enough to recognize who’s projecting magical thinking). Naturally, she has to ease into her thesis with a few horror stories, just to get her marks properly primed.

So Dvorak tells them about a motorist whose car was hit by celebratory New Year’s Day gunfire shot off by criminal morons who ignore police warnings. She recounts a woman shot in a “domestic dispute”—but fails to mention the “alleged” perp was a convicted felon and “prohibited person. She similarly fails to mention that the “alleged” cop blaster fleeing a traffic stop “has a long record of being pulled over—and arrested.” And unsurprisingly, when recounting the tale of the Lynchburg McDonald’s attack, suffice it to say she did not see fit to remind readers of all the “gun laws” the suspect disregarded.

“Shattered glass, shattered bones, shattered lives,” Dvorak “solemnly” intones with faux moral authority. “This the reality of gunfire in Virginia. Yes, Virginia, you have a gun problem.”

Really? Virginia is the headquarters home of the National Rifle Association, and a cursory scan of the news feeds turns up no evidence of any of its five million heavily-armed yet peaceable members shooting guns in the air, or at their wives, police officers or fast-food workers (and you know there’d be screaming national headlines if they had). It would seem, at least to someone grounded in reality, that Virginia’s problems are not with the “progressive” fantasy that guns cause anything.

Dvorak presses on, raising the tired old “developed world” canard that cherry-picks countries to exclude those with restrictive disarmament edicts and high rates of violence. She also seems to think her case is bolstered by mentioning the Virginia Beach massacre, all the while ignoring the gun owner victim who wishes she had listened to her instincts instead of obeying the city’s “gun-free zone” mandate.

Instead, she represents Bloomberg Astroturf as grassroots and praises the infringements being enabled by elitist money and politically manipulated immigration demographics, including:

“There are measures to ban assault weapons, high-capacity magazines, bump stocks and silencers. There are proposals to require background checks on all firearms sales and transfers, as well as limit handgun purchases to one a month. And there is a move to adopt the same kind of ‘red flag law’ in at least a dozen other states that allow law enforcement to temporarily remove guns from people deemed a threat to themselves or others, thwarting domestic violence shootings and suicides.”

You know, effectively neuter the militia of the whole people, supposedly guaranteed by the federal and Virginia constitutions and deemed “necessary to the security of a free State.” That and go full Queen of Hearts (What could be more preposterously un-American than “Sentence first. Verdict afterward”?).

“It’s pretty common sense,” Dvorkak absurdly insists. Plus, she gives a nod to farmers and Fudds, while advancing the indefensible meme that the Founders risked it all to hunt ducks.

But we gun owners are the ones not living in reality, she charges.

“The gun guys are scared out of their minds that someone’s going to come and take their guns. (Again, fantasy),” she asserts.

I know professionally trained and experienced colleagues who are rightfully concerned about gun-grabbers who don’t know when to quit and who are trying to cow us into surrender, but to dismiss that as being “scared out of their minds” would be a most critical miscalculation. And how many more indicators do we need, from “Hell, yes!” Beto to a retired SCOTUS judge calling for the repeal of the Second Amendment to conclude insistence that “No one is talking about taking your guns” is a lie? Sure they are, and they have been for a long time. Only a liar, an ignoramus or both would claim otherwise.

“They live in a make-believe world where they are the heroes and the patriots under attack,” Dvorak sneers. By “they,” assume she means Americans who, along with their forebears, built this country and have always tried to be patriotic, law-abiding and productive, but now see themselves being portrayed as “deplorables,” as “haters,” and even as “terrorists.” Meanwhile, newly-emboldened and unreconstructed socialists, abetted by a salivating DSM, egg on usurpers to deny what Founder Tench Coxe recognized as “the birthright of an American.”

And of course, the U.N. wants our guns but just currently lacks the means to force the issue. They say so openly and speculations by a handful (but attributed to all of us) on trucks being routed for delivery don’t change that. But at this point, Dvorkak has descended into full Alinsky Rule 5 Ridicule and relieves us of any obligation to meet her point-for-point.

Our “sanctuary cities” are populated by “extremists,” to provide “safe spaces for imaginary cowboys,” she sneers. “Good guys with a gun” are a myth, she insists, in spite of example after example where that has proven exactly what was needed, as recently seen again in a church in Texas.

One wonders what Dvorak or her snotty WaPo colleagues would be prepared to do in a like situation. At a minimum, they’d prove capable of being even more useless.

“They are people who want a culture war, a fight, a reason to feel powerful and superior to the people who are in hospitals, doctor’s offices and funeral homes living with the reality of an unhealthy and irrational obsession with guns,” the self-styled superior Dvorak accuses. Actually, the culture war is being initiated by those attacking a uniquely American culture that has made this the go-to location the rest of the world is desperate to get into. The “irrational and unhealthy obsession” comes from those who reject the most egalitarian power-sharing arrangement yet devised, and instead demand a totalitarian “monopoly of violence.” And as for doctors, some yet exist who have the right prescriptions to heal bodies as well as the body politic.

But her job is done. Dvorak’s got the mighty Washington Post to amplify her voice. Any rebuttal – like this one – will be on a much smaller platform and mostly relegated to the echo chamber. And she’s not the only one, because the rest of the media is piling on using the same technique of ridicule, trivialization, and dismissal, such as “Don't believe the scaremongering on gun legislation” in The Roanoke Times.

How paranoid is it to take exception to others, whose edicts are backed by force of arms, and who presume to limit your rights by dictating how much of them you may claim at any given time and prescribing where you may not claim them at all? That’s exactly what “one handgun a month” and a patchwork quilt of “local gun ordinances” that supplant “the supreme Law of the Land” do.

“Dan Casey knows a little bit about a lot of things but not a heck of a lot about most things,” the screed author’s profile statement tells us. “That doesn't keep him from writing about them, however.”
    Obviously.

“So keep him honest!” readers are encouraged.

“Comments disabled,” they are then informed.

Look for further such manipulative efforts to dominate the media, especially as “Lobby Day” approaches and as more Virginia communities make their determinations to defy infringements known. And don’t discount the potential for an escalation in hostilities as tensions increase from the deranged and hate-filled fantasists of the left. Remember that with “progressives,” every day is Opposite Day, and the projection is strong in them. Their accusations of fantasy and reality denial notwithstanding, we know with whom the delusional disorder resides.

Interesting times lay ahead and we ain’t seen nothin’ yet. Let’s hope no one here shrinks from continued preparation for them or loses heart due to insulting rants from yapping and clueless media dwarfs.

“These are the times that try men’s souls,” Thomas Paine observed in The American Crisis. Chances are we may soon find out who among us are mere “sunshine patriots,” and more importantly, who are not.

I was getting ready to point out all of Petulas bull$#@! but it seems David did a good job of it. Unfortunately you won't be seeing his rebuttal in WAPO.

One of the most controversial gun control bills proposed in the Virginia General Assembly has been killed, while others passed out of committee on Monday morning.

Senate Bill 16, proposed by Sen. Richard Saslaw, would have expanded the definition of "assault firearms" under Virginia law, outlawed their possession, and outlawed the the selling or transfer of any firearm magazine with a capacity for more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
In the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday morning, as hundreds gathered outside the Virginia Capitol for a gun rights rally, Saslaw requested that his bill be pulled from consideration.
According to media outlets present at the meeting, Committee Democrats unanimously voted to dismiss the bill. Republicans all abstained from voting after arguing that it was too late to dismiss the bill since it had already been docketed.
The vote came after a contentious start to the committee's meeting, in which Sen. Mark Obenshain requested that no votes on gun control bills be passed due to the absence of Republican Sen. Stanley.

However, Democrats in charge of the committee pressed ahead as long lines of people worked their way through security outside the capitol to get inside, following a new rule passed last week barring firearms from the building.
After the committee voted to strike SB 16 from consideration, votes moved ahead on other proposed gun legislation.
Committee members voted on party lines, 9 to 5, to combine Senate Bills 22 and 69, which both would institute a "one gun a month" law for Virginia limiting citizens to one handgun purchase within any 30-day period, and moved those out of the committee.
Senate Bills 12 and 70, both of which would establish mandatory background checks for any transfer of firearms, including private sales, were combined as well and moved forward out of the committee.
Also on 9-5 party line votes, the committee reported SB 240, establishing red flag laws, out of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Each of those bills will move forward to the Virginia Senate for further consideration. To become law, they would need to pass the Senate, then pass the House of Delegates, then have any differences from the different chambers resolved and voted on, and then be signed into law by Gov. Ralph Northam, who has pledged to pass new gun laws since the Virginia Beach mass shooting last year.
At an NRA rally scheduled in Richmond later on Monday, both Senator Mark Obenshain and Delegate Todd Gilbert are slated to speak against the gun control bills that are moving forward.
To protest SB 16 specifically, the National Rifle Association had announced over the weekend that they would be distributing 30-round drum magazines at Virginia's capitol building during Monday's hearings.
In the months since Democrats took control of Virginia's government for the first time in over two decades, over 100 localities across Virginia have passed resolutions declaring themselves "Second Amendment Sanctuaries," stating that they're opposed to any bills which would restrict Second Amendment rights.

Virginia Set For Showdown At Gun Rights Rally

    https://www.libertynation.com/virgin...-rights-rally/

How far will Gov. Northam go on gun control, and how far will Virginians go to resist?

By: Lorraine Silvetz, MSW January 13, 2020

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam is determined to enact strict new gun control laws, and pro-Second Amendment Virginians are more than a little fired up. Does the governor’s budget allow for the forced confiscation of common semi-automatic firearms legally owned by Virginians since the commonwealth’s inception in 1776? Just the thought of it has those who value their right to own guns ready to go on the offensive.

The Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL) is organizing a lobbying effort for Monday, Jan. 20. As the issue of gun rights has become a political hot potato in the commonwealth, expectations are that a sizable, vocal group will converge on the capital city of Richmond. Liberty Nation legal affairs editor and member of the VCDL, Scott Cosenza, has been covering this potential firestorm from the moment Northam declared his intentions to go after the guns of law-abiding Virginians. Cosenza’s extensive, original reporting on the subject has kept Liberty Nation readers ahead of the curve on the situation. He observes:

“It’s the gun control bills that have produced the biggest response – an avalanche of opposition by Virginia gun owners. Senate Bill 16, which was filed 11 days after the election, bans many common firearms, including the AR-15, and does not grandfather them in. A more aggressive mission to destroy the guns – and the right to own them – of Virginians could hardly be devised. If the legislation were to pass, gun owners in Virginia would have to sell or surrender their firearms or become felons. Hence the backlash.”

As a result, 90% of Virginia’s counties and many of its independent cities have declared themselves “Second Amendment sanctuaries.” Following such a vehement rebuke, Northam recently backed away from promising outright confiscation of currently owned semi-auto weapons. Instead, he demands that gun owners register “grandfathered” weapons with the state. But this does not appear to be an acceptable compromise to those who own firearms in Virginia.

“Gun owners have risen to challenge the proposals,” Cosenza reports, “not in the legislature just yet, but at the county and city levels. Under a massive pressure wall, those local governments have, at a furious pace, adopted Second Amendment Sanctuary resolutions, forbidding local officials from acting in opposition to the Second Amendment.”

Should Northam’s gun control mandates pass the Democrat-held legislature, can we expect the masses to comply? If past is prologue, then perhaps not. New York and Connecticut have tried similar laws that mandated firearm registration, with only around 3% registering their weapons. What, then, would Virginia authorities do if a multitude – or even a minority of people – defy the order? Again, we look to Connecticut and New York. If these states are any indication, the answer is nothing. Nevertheless, should commonwealth citizens refuse to comply, many Virginians will essentially become “paper felons.”

However, if gun confiscation raids are attempted, Virginians have the fallback of armed resistance, for which there is a precedent; in the so-called “Battle of Athens” of 1946, armed Tennesseans – many of them WWII veterans – laid siege to the local jail to prevent corrupt county officials from rigging an election by stuffing the ballot boxes.

Here’s where things begin to get sticky. The current battle over legal guns is troublesome because the firearms we have today are more refined than they were in the post-World War II era. Today, rifles are capable of 300 to 1000-yard precision shots. The population that may resist these new regulations has many of these weapons in its possession. One must ask what kind of confrontations could take place between citizens and authorities with these types of weapons at hand?

Exacerbating the escalating tension between Virginia gun rights advocates and gun grabbers is proposed legislation from Delegate Mark Levine (D-VA 45). He is the chief sponsor of five separate gun control bills. One of Levine’s bills calls for a revised ban on so-called “assault weapons,” requiring existing gun owners to register their firearms with the state. It also forbids the possession of magazines that can hold more than ten rounds. As well, it prohibits private ownership of suppressors and trigger activators. Trigger activators are devices designed to allow semi-automatic weapons to fire more rapidly.

Before any gun confiscation raids are mandated, any action that Gov. Northam takes regarding firearm ownership in the Commonwealth of Virginia will almost certainly be challenged in the courts. Given the potentially dire consequences, these legal disputes may quickly rise to both the state Supreme and U.S. Supreme Court levels.

The current tensions over the Second Amendment in Virginia harken back to an armed conflict slightly more famous than the Battle of Athens: That would be the Revolutionary War. Historians will note that Virginia was the seat of this struggle, not simply in the writing of the founding documents but with the contribution of the man who led our troops to victory, General George Washington.

    L. Neil Smith, the famous libertarian science fiction writer, reminds us of the moment the Revolution stated: “… As it is, the fight began with an attempt by 1200 Redcoats (which ended for them in a humiliating rout) to confiscate private weaponry at Lexington and Concord. They should have known better — I’ll bet a lot of them did.”

Virginia’s legislators would be wise to remember this.

Some top Virginia Democratic senators are expressing reservations about plans to ban assault weapons — a key part of the new Democratic majority's gun-control proposals and one that's drawn fierce resistance from gun-rights advocates.“A lot of people don't really understand assault weapons and how complicated the issue really is," said Democratic Sen. John Edwards. “It's going to be very difficult to figure out a way to do it. But we're studying it, that's all I can say.”
He's one of at least four moderate senators — the others are Sens. Chap Petersen, Creigh Deeds and Lynwood Lewis — who are skeptical of plans to ban assault weapons. None of them has ruled out voting for an assault weapon ban, but all have said they aren't impressed with any of the drafts of proposed bans they've seen.
“I've not seen an enforceable bill that makes sense yet,” Deeds said.
Heated debates over guns are set to dominate this year's legislative session. A failure to pass an assault weapon ban would be a blow to Democrats.
The Senate Judiciary Committee, headed by Edwards, moved quickly Monday to advance several pieces of gun legislation that a Republican majority has blocked for years. Those bills include limiting handgun purchases to once a month, universal background checks on gun purchases, allowing localities to ban guns in public buildings, parks and other areas, and a red flag bill that would allow authorities to temporarily take guns away from anyone deemed to be dangerous to themselves or others.
But a ban on assault weapons was not put on the docket for debate.
“Well, you can read into that what you want," said Petersen, another Democrat on the committee.
Petersen said that “on paper” he supports an assault weapons ban but said he has concerns about “details that nobody seems to have figured out yet." Those details include like what technically constitutes an assault weapon or what to do with people who already own them.

Democrats have a slim 21-19 majority in the state senate, giving them little margin to lose members on key votes like an assault weapons ban. Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, a Democrat, casts votes in cases of a tie.
Gun control is only one part of an enormous agenda lawmakers are tackling this year. They have less than 60 days to get everything passed.

Virginia Democrats withdrew an AR-15 confiscation bill Monday after thousands of NRA members showed up to oppose new gun controls.
The NRA asked members to flood the January 13, 2020, Virginia Senate meetings and ensure pro-Second Amendment voices drowned out those calling for gun control.
Video from hallways outside the meetings showed NRA members responded en masse:

    — NRA (@NRA) January 13, 2020
The Washington Free Beacon reports the presence of thousands of NRA members “appeared to have an impact.” Democrats withdrew a bill aimed at AR-15 confiscation and moderated other gun control proposals.
But NRA-ILA Virginia state director Daniel Spiker made clear the changes, though good, were not enough.
He said, “While there were some improvements to some of these bills, overall, it’s still bad legislation. Putting in more regulations and making it more onerous on the law-abiding citizens of Virginia is not something we stand for.”

Yeah, like we didn't see this coming.

Northam to ban guns from Capitol grounds

By ALAN SUDERMAN and DENISE LAVOIE
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Fearing a repeat of the deadly violence that engulfed Charlottesville more than two years ago, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam plans to declare a temporary emergency Wednesday banning all weapons, including guns, from Capitol Square ahead of a massive rally planned next week over gun rights.

That’s according to two state officials who were briefed on the plans but not authorized to speak publicly about them. The governor, a Democrat, plans to announce the plans at a news conference Wednesday afternoon because of credible threats of potential violence and extremism, one official said.

Northam’s planned announcement comes days after Democratic leaders used a special rules committee to ban guns inside the Capitol and a legislative office building. That ban did not include Capitol grounds, which are under the governor’s control and are where a huge number of gun-rights advocates are expected to rally Monday.

One official said Northam decided to ban all guns from the grounds of Capitol Square after receiving reports for weeks about inflammatory online postings by out-of-state pro-gun and militia groups who are promising to attend Monday’s rally.

The official said the state does not have intelligence that the groups are planning a specific act of violence, but said Northam has grown increasingly concerned about numerous ominous-sounding postings on social media from forces outside Virginia. The official cited one posting that included a photo of an AR-15 and said there are “great sight angles from certain buildings” near Capitol Square.

Virginia law enforcement officials have been criticized for their planning and response to a deadly 2017 white nationalist rally in Charlottesville that involved heavily armed protesters. One woman was killed and several more were injured when a car plowed into a group of counterprotesters.

Northam’s declaration will also ban items like helmets and shields, items that some white nationalists carried in Charlottesville. It’s unclear how long the temporary ban will be in effect.

Gun laws have become a dominant issue this legislative session and there’s been a heavy police at the Capitol.

Democrats have full control of the statehouse for the first time in a generation and are set to pass a number of gun-control restrictions, including limiting handgun purchases to once a month and universal background checks on gun purchases.

Republicans and gun-rights groups have pledged stiff resistance. Gun owners are descending on local government offices to demand they establish sanctuaries for gun rights. More than 100 counties, cities and towns have declared themselves Second Amendment sanctuaries and vowed to oppose any new “unconstitutional restrictions” on guns.

    VCDL -
The Associated Press is reporting that someone in the Northam administration is saying that Northam plans to declare a state of emergency on January 20, Lobby Day.

VCDL is going to have our attorneys investigate this situation once we hear Northam's statement on Wednesday and we will let you know what we find out.

Yeah, that is a bad bill for many reasons. Poorly written, several provisions will never stand up under court challenge, even some code section citations are wrong.

VA Dems Curb Gun Control Revolt by Requiring Equal Protesters for Each Side

    AWR HAWKINS 14 Jan 2020

Virginia Democrats fought to curb the gun control revolt Monday by requiring equal protesters for each when hearings began.

This meant even if thousands of advocates for one side showed up, only 30 would be allowed in if only 30 advocates for the other side were present.

Virginia Pilot reporter Marie Albiges reported, “Police told me the room is split so that each side gets the same number of people to talk/observe the meeting, a directive from the New Democratic majority.”

The Washington Free Beacon reported “thousands” of NRA members did show up, but the Virginia Shooting Sports Association notes members of Michael Bloomberg-funded Moms Demand Action were escorted past them to keep numbers equal:

New rules put in place by committee majority. A lot of pro gun people who had waited in line since 7:00am were not happy to have people in "Mom's Demand" t-shirts escorted in ahead of them.

The massive turnout of NRA members still had a strong impact, as Democrat lawmakers withdrew a bill that would have centered on the confiscation of AR-15s and similar guns.

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) is set to declare an emergency that at least temporarily bars individuals from carrying firearms on the grounds of the state Capitol, according to reports.

Northam is planning to announce the move during a press conference on Wednesday, The Associated Press reported, citing two state officials familiar with the plans but unauthorized to speak about them publicly.

The decision comes after state Democratic leaders' utilized a special rules committee to prohibit guns inside the Capitol and legislative office buildings. One official also told the AP that Northam decided to ban all guns on the state Capitol's grounds after getting reports that pro-gun and militia groups were planning to attend a guns rights rally on the Capitol Square next week.

The Virginia Citizens Defense League, the organizers of the rally, have said that the demonstration will draw thousands to the area, The Washington Post reported. The group's Facebook event page says more than 5,000 will attend.

An official noted to the AP that Northam does not have any intelligence that the demonstration could become violent. But he said that the governor had become troubled by some of the posts he saw on social media pertaining to the protest.

The Virginia governor's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.

Northam's announcement will include a ban of other items that could be used as weapons, including helmets and shields.

The Virginia vowed to reintroduce a slate of gun control measures after the Democrats gained control of both houses of the General Assembly following last November's elections.

The Post noted that hundreds of guns rights activists showed up to the Capitol on Monday to protest the ban of firearms in the Capitol and legislative office building and to testify against the first gun-control bills introduced in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The committed advanced four bills to the upper chamber that day. Included was a measure requiring background checks on all gun purchases and one allowing law enforcement to temporarily take firearms from individuals deemed to be a risk.

"For the first time in decades, commonsense gun safety measures are finally advancing in the Virginia legislature," Northam said on Twitter. "This is the first step in the process—Virginians are demanding real action on gun violence, and they are watching."

Security at the Capitol has significantly increased amid the start of the new General Assembly session. State Police has been providing backup for Capitol Police and crews have been creating crowd-control barricades around the Capitol, The Post noted.

Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.
