If Not For Government - Larken Rose

Another great vid from Larken Rose. Not new but still worth the time to watch.

That about sums it up, which is why I don’t play in the statist sandbox anymore. Keep living and spreading it, hopefully folks will think it through and hop on board.
“The right to life is the source of all rights—and the right to property is their only implementation. Without property rights, no other rights are possible. Since man has to sustain his life by his own effort, the man who has no right to the product of his effort has no means to sustain his life. The man who produces while others dispose of his product, is a slave.”

It's probably appropriate that he filmed his video in a forest.

    With no roads.

Without government, who would overthrow foreign governments?

And with just people, how long until they are a boss, and then boss others around. Stating naivety right here, by idealists.

The guy in the video doesn't understand that, government has regulation because of the mistakes of people from history.

Your country has little regulation, so nobody has to bother to pay. That is where the problems begin. Nobody wants to live more than a century ago. The bloke doesn't seem to understand that, a road in one place may be built by skilled men and women, but in others may be more challenging. This sort of narrow view he has suggested, is a straw man's attitude to life. Just another way of behaving as if the society can be solved by others and not those advocating it.

Actually, this country has recently accumulated one hell of a lot of regulation, and that's exactly when the problems began.

Yeah. Idealism > regulations > problems.

We didn't have these problems before. That's why we had time for idealism.

    Regulation exists for what?

And let's not forget that regulation is also intended to keep the rabble, that's us, basically, in line by providing excusses to harrass and arrest them when needs be.

And can you name regulation that does this? And what regulation is best keeping?

I could name dozen regulations off the top of my head that exist only so government can impose a burden on people with little benefit.. The only regulations that make sense are where you don't have clear property rights where someone can't easily be sued if they impose a cost. Environmental regulations are an example. No one owns the air. If someone pollutes chemicals it can be hard to prove someone is harmed on the individual level even if you know in aggregate people die. You probably need some minimal regulation in banking because people abuse leverage and have a taxpayer backstop with the Federal Reserve and deposit insurance. Those are the only examples I can think of.

Regulating taxis would answer your first question. Cities restrict licenses which makes them worth hundred of thousands in big cities. They serve no purpose other than to limit competition. It costs $600k to get a license in Boston. Who is helped by that other than the monopolists who lobbied for it? Uber demonstrates you can get a cheaper, non-piss smelling ride without government. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxi_medallion

Drug laws whether for legal or illegal drugs. Tufts university estimates it costs $2.6 billion to get a drug through the FDA regulatory process. https://www.policymed.com/2014/12/a-...inical-de.html This causes huge costs which limits access to drugs and it also keeps good drugs off the market for longer than necessary. If a cholesterol drug saves 2000 lives a year but takes five more years to approve because of regulation, that means the government just killed 10,000 people. https://www.forbes.com/forbes/2011/0...l#6ac5629a1bbc

Roads are great but don't forget we wouldn't even have the internet without government. Without government there would be no RPF, no Facebook, and certainly no 4k HD porn of infinite varieties.

    Thank you government!
