If Rand knows who he is then I bet Trump knows who the whistle blower is too. I wish Rand would take the Thomas Massie approach and keep a low profile with Trump. Let someone else fall on that sword. Mark my words, this will not end well for him.

I suspect that Randal really appreciates the mockery that Donald makes of politics and the government in general.

Your problem is that you have stopped showing me any kind of respect, you see a post by me and you put up a fighting stance. The post I made was clear and 9/10 people would understand what I meant by it even when they disagree with the content. You on the other don't even want to read what I wrote or make an attempt to understand it. Maybe it is the Che avatar that is corrupting your brain, but you for a while now you have seen me and my movement in this forum as a battleground that needs fighting.

Its not about being on my level or being intelligent. You have completely lost the ability to have a dialogue with someone who disagree with you. That is something YOU have to figure out.

I think Rand is coordinating tactics with Trump and Trump has a time in mind for exposing the whistleblower.

He thinks the whistle blower is "a material witness to possible Joe Biden Ukrainian corruption." And.....he's probably right on that. I have been saying this on Facebook and in YouTube comments since this story first broke. "Quid pro quo" is a non issue. As Rand correctly pointed out, people from both sides of the aisle have been threatening Ukrainian aid either to get Trump investigated or get Biden investigated or to stop an investigation into Hunter Biden. I learned from this video that there's been far more "quid pro quo" than just "quid pro Joe."

This is a win/win for Rand. He is right. Trump will not be removed from office. Should Trump lose in 2020, Rand will be very well positioned to pick up Trump supporters in the 2024 primary. Should Trump win in 2020, Rand will be very well positioned in the 2024 primary. And Trump is focusing attention where it should have been all along. That is on the Joe Biden corruption.

00:00 Baer: Let's here more about why the whistleblower's name should be out there. Kentucky Senator Rand Paul joins us on set tonight. Senator thanks for being here.

00:06 Rand: Thanks for having me.

00:07 Baer: I referenced that tweet moments ago. Andrew Bakaj the whistleblowers attorney.

If Congress and others do not protect my client's anonymity-which my client is afforded by law- not only does it jeopardize their safety, but it jeopardizes an entire system that took decades to build. It will destroy effective Congressional oversight for years to come.

    Your response to that.

00:27: Rand: You know I don't wish harm on anyone. I've been the victim of political violence not once but twice. I was there at the ball field when Steve Scalise was almost killed, staff member who was 10 feet from me was shot, I had six of my ribs broken, by a hater of president Trump, so I know what political violence is all about. I don't want that at all.

But the report was not correct in the sense that the statute says the inspector general cannot reveal the name. It says the president shall enforce the law, but the person you quoted was disingenuous in what they were saying. The statute says the inspector general cannot reveal the name. There's nothing that prevents me from saying it now other than I want it to be more about the process and less about the person. But there's no law that prevents me from mentioning the name of who's been said to be the whistleblower. But there's also...

01:15 Baer: (Cutting off Rand) Are you convinced you know?

01:16 Rand: Yeah. And there's something important about this also. It's called the constitution. The sixth amendment to the constitution says if you're going to accuse me of a crime I get to stare you down in court. That is absolutely part of the constitution. The statute may say one thing. But I promise you if there is a trial you always get to face your accuser. It's in the 6th amendment. It's in the Bill Of Rights. There's no way they can stop the defense from asking for that?

01:38 Baer: Well...I don't understand what prevents you from getting on the Senate floor where you're protected from all kinds of things and just giving a speech and saying what the guys name is. If you're convinced you know who it is.

01:46 Rand: Right. No I can. And I may. I can do it right now if I want. Nothing stops me. There is no law that stops me from doing it other than that I don't want to make it about the one individual. But I would say this. I do think that this individual is a material witness to the potential Biden corruption. He was there under Joe Biden. He was there when Joe Biden was trying to fire the prosecutor that was investigating Hunter Biden. This person was a Ukrainian expert on the desk at that time.
I think he should be interviewed not as the whistleblower, but as a material witness to the Biden corruption in Ukraine.

Editor's note. I wish Rand would be a little more careful with his language here. There is not evidence that the fired Ukrainian prosecutor had been investigating Hunter Biden. He had been investigating Burisma corporation and Burisma had employed Hunter Biden at the time for the tune of $50,000 per month.

02:22 Baer: The critics would say, you're pointing to the process of how you got there. But now we are where we are. Today you have former ambassador or current ambassador Gordon Sondland, with the transcript that's released, has changed the testimony, that essentially he says there was quid pro quo as far as military aid being withheld. You're talking about the process, how we got here rather than the substance where we are.

02:44 Rand: Sort of. But I'm actually talking about about another subject. I think the whistleblower is a material witness to the Biden corruption. Because he was there when the Biden corruption scandal was going on. There are reports that there are aides to Joe Biden who counseled that it was a conflict of interest for his son to be making so much money. That should be investigated. And the whistleblower was there at the time. If the whistleblower is now talking about President Trump, what did he think at the time or what did he say to Joe Biden about the conflict of interest with Hunter Biden? He needs to be interviewed for that purpose alone. But also the Presidents defense, because of the 6th amendment to the constitution will get to confront him. No judge will turn that down. He will, if he wants to, get to confront his accuser.

Editor's note again: I wish instead of Rand saying it was a conflict of interest for Joe Biden's son to be making so much money, he had said it was a conflict of interest for Joe Biden's son to be making so much money working for a foreign company under investigation by a country that Joe Biden had been made point man over for the Obama administration. Simply pointing out Hunter Biden made a lot of money opens up the criticism that the Trump children make a lot of money.

03:28 Baer: I understand. But what about the substance of where we are now? Do you have any problem about you've heard, read about the phone call, the fall out to it and the surrounding...

03:38 Rand: (This time cutting Baer off) I guess the only thing I've discovered after looking at both sides on this is that everybody seems to want to influence the aid to Ukraine. Biden said we'll cut it off if you don't fire this prosecutor. Menedes said if you don't keep investigating Trump, we'll cut your aid. Murphy was there a month ago and he said if you investigate Hunter Biden, we'll get rid of your aid. It seems that everybody on both sides of the aisle has been threatening Ukrainian aid. And if I had been on the phone I would have said you don't get any because we don't have any money. We have to borrow it from China. To send it to Ukraine.

04:06 Baer: What about the concern that protecting whistleblowers overall if you name this person suddenly jeapordizes other things. Let's go back to 2014. Campaign for Liberty, founded by your dad, you say this. "We've got so many millions of government contractors taht when they see something wrong, they should be able to report it without repercussions."

    04:28 Rand: Absolutely.

04:28 Baer: Your dad Ron Paul said "I think we should praise our whistleblowers," Ron Paul said to applause, adding "people like Edward Snowden should be rewarded."

04:35 Rand: Absolutely. I still agree with him completely on that.

04:36 Baer: If those statements are true, why doing what you're doing now?

04:38 Rand: Well I agree completely with it if we defending Edward Snowden, who I still defend and I think he should have gotten whistleblower status. Most of the people defending the whistleblower, wanted to lock up Edward Snowden or hang him or execute him. So yes, the whistleblower statute should protect people...

04:55 Baer: Only whistleblowers that you like?

04:56 Rand: No, no. They should protect them...I want Edward Snowden protected so he's not executed. I want him protected...

05:00 Baer: What about this guy? (Trump whistleblower)

05:02 Rand: I don't want him executed either. I don't think he should be fired. But I agree with what Lindsey Graham said in your lead in and that is that it's a protection from being fired. It's not a protection to be anonymous. Particularly if it's going to be a criminal case. Once you have a crime, there is a constitutional protection that you have to (be able to) confront your accuser. There are no exceptions to that. No court in the land will there there be a trial of President Trump, without him confronting (rather allowing him to confront) his accusers. So I a still for an expansive whistleblower protection. You shouldn't be fired. And this person shouldn't be persecuted or put in jail, but he should come forward, as Edward Snowden did, reveal himself and say what he thinks government did wrong.

05:40 Baer: I just want to be clear. You agree with Lindsey Graham on something.

(Editor's note: Ugggghhh! I just threw up a little in my mouth.)

    05:44 Rand: Ha ha...yes.

    05:46 Baer: Okay.

05:47 Rand: It doesn't happen every day of the week.

05:48 Baer: Okay. Finally, where do you think this goes? Because it seems like it's headed to an impeachment vote in the house. At least there are articles of impeachment. Then a vote. And then heads your way to the Senate.

05:57 Rand: I think it's going to be purely partisan. In the House no republicans voted for this*. And I think no Republicans will vote for impeachment in the House...in the Senate. I'm not aware of any (Republican) Senator right now that will vote for impeachment. There's no way 20 Republicans will vote for impeachment. I think in the end the American people will say we should be fair. Both sides have been trying to influence the aid in Ukraine. Why should we impeach one side and give Joe Biden and Hunter Biden a pass? So I think people want it to be fair. Right now it looks like we're only going after president Trump and I think that's unfair.

06:28 Baer: Senator Paul we appreciate your time tonight.

    06:29 Rand: Thank you.

(Editor's note: *Thank you Justin Amash for leaving the GOP before this vote.)

Did you actually watch the video? I have provided a transcript. Ignore the misleading Fox News headline that was taken out of context. Whistleblower protection doesn't give complete anonymity. And Rand isn't about the reveal the whistleblower. He's pointing out that the whistleblower's attorney has misstated the law. He also sees the whistleblower as a material witness to what Joe Biden was doing. Further there is the 6th amendment right to face one's accusers. If Edward Snowden has remained anonymous and if there had been an impeachment trial against Bush or Obama for NSA spying, Snowden would have needed to come forward if his testimony was going to be used in the trial.

Okay. I see your point. But that's why I expounded. From a strategy point it makes sense to let the other side know that the whisleblower will be outed if this goes to the Senate. It's the difference between having a sign on your property that says "This property is protected by the Second Amendment" and actually brandishing the gun.
