Human waste from homeless people makes downtown Miami streets unpleasant and unsanitary

Homeless people living on the streets and sidewalks of downtown Miami are also relieving themselves on the streets and sidewalks of downtown Miami, turning the city’s core into an outdoor toilet, merchants and residents say.
“The situation is the worst I’ve seen in my 25 years here,” said business owner Jose Goyanes. “The stench is really bad, even after you hose it down. We see people urinating against buildings or pulling their pants down and squatting because they have nowhere else to go.”
Deposits of human waste can be seen in planters, doorways, gutters — or right in the middle of the block. The pavement behind the old Macy’s department store is soaked with urine. Feces ferment in front of vacant storefronts for days when there’s no landlord to clean up. People who work and live downtown are calling in a Code Brown.
“It’s prolific. It’s on every block and at the base of most trees,” said businessman Gary Ressler. “I can’t bring national tenants here and walk through downtown without having them observe human feces littering the sidewalk.”

In the early 1990s, I was driving around the country for a few months after getting out of the Marines. I got by pretty cheaply by camping or staying at friends' houses. When camping, I was always cognizant of the laws simply because cops can mess up your life quicker than a criminal if inclined.

Going through Miami Beach I was curious about camping on the beach. I asked a local who looked at me strange and then suggested I go to the police station a block away and ask them.

I am not kidding, there were at least 6 bums sleeping on the steps of the police headquarters and another one having a violent argument against himself.

At that moment, I decided to drive North at least out of the city limits.

This is pretty comical, you know for the last 100 years , if you get/got caught sleeping in your car, or
trying to live in a tent out in no mans land , or do anything on your own without 'permits' you
    were fkd.
Now you can crap on the sidewalk, and create an environment for disease and pestilence right downtown, liberals will
    applaud you and support it.

    Haven't been there since 2005..
Was at the PPG Training center a couple times..

Never seen what is described,, and torrential Rain commonly rinses the streets..

I am guessing this is a new and localized occurrence.

Little Havana is Generally Clean with the smells of Good Food and fine cigars.
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

I love Miami I have spent a lot of time there I miss the bodegas with hot cuban bread and espresso and all the other foods there. The traffic is a nightmare down there. I don't have a place there anymore. I visit on occasion I still have friends there. I don't think I would go back there to live.

If I was homeless I would be a nomad I might go to Miami to winter. Funny thing is I was a nomad on the road for many years traveling with entertainers of all stripes. We used to camp a lot sometimes the venue would put us up in a nice place too. I felt homeless(although I was having a blast) and eventually I stopped and had a child and live indoors all the time now.

I sure hope Miami can solve the poop problem and the traffic problem.

I don't think I've ever been to Miami before. I've gone to Florida on a couple of occasions for vacation when I was younger but I can't remember specifically where in the state I was at.

I wonder how many people are aware...

Would you believe it? Back when I was a little kid (1960s), Miami was considered a beautiful, glamorous, happening place, on par with Las Vegas and Hollywood of that time! Full of stars, celebrities and the wealthiest people! Anyone would LOVE to have been able to take a vacation there!

I distinctly remember that Jackie Gleason filmed his later show there (NOT the original black & white 'Honeymooners' - This was a later, color version with some singing - admittedly, not as good.) Every week the show opened with a looong "approaching" shot of Miami Beach from the water -"From the sun and fun capitol of the world, Miami Beach! ...with Sammy Kahn's Orchestra and the June Taylor Dancers!" I believe Gleason is buried in Miami. Miss that guy.
