Sasse breaks with Trump's call for probe: 'Americans don't look to Chinese commies for the truth'

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) pushed back strongly on Thursday night against President Trump's suggestion that the Chinese government investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.

"Hold up: Americans don’t look to Chinese commies for the truth. If the Biden kid broke laws by selling his name to Beijing, that’s a matter for American courts, not communist tyrants running torture camps," Sasse said in a statement to the Omaha World-Herald.

A spokesman for Sasse didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Sasse's remarks mark the strongest pushback from a Senate Republican since Trump on Thursday publicly encouraged Ukraine and China should look into the Bidens.

"China should start an investigation into the Bidens,” Trump said in front of cameras on the South Lawn of the White House.

The president added that he had not explicitly asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to open an investigation, but that it’s “certainly something we can start thinking about.”

Sasse's Senate GOP colleagues have largely been silent about Trump's rhetoric as they've been scattered across the country as part of a two-week recess.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) separately defended Trump suggesting Democrats should want to know "if there's some real corruption before you choose Joe Biden."

Trump's suggestion to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he investigate the Bidens and a related whistleblower complaint have fueled the House Democrats' impeachment inquiry.

Sasse, who is up for reelection next year, also knocked House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff's (D-Calif.) handling of the House investigation, comparing it to a "partisan clown show in the House."

"That’s his right because the Constitution doesn’t prohibit clown shows, but fortunately, in the Senate, we're working to follow the facts one step at a time," Sasse said.

The Senate Intelligence Committee, which Sasse is a member of, is running a separate investigation into the whistleblower complaint tied to Trump's actions toward Ukraine.

Sasse previously said the whistleblower complaint contained "real troubling things" and that Republicans "ought not just circle the wagons."

Sasse is a NeverTrump Neocon, it's no surprise he would endorse the treasonous coup.

Sasse is a Neoconservative who hates Trump.
He is up for reelection in 2020.
He needs to be replaced with a Constitutional Conservative who opposes endless wars!

I know the term neocon is thrown around here very easily and sometimes I am guilty of it, but Ben Sasse is not really a neocon. He is no where close the level of say that of a Tom Cotton or Lindsey Graham or even a Donald Trump. He is a middle of the road moderate republican who generally support conservative social values, small govt and our military . I don't think I have ever heard him go out of his war to push for any wars like the real neocons.

And unfortunately for you, he is very popular in Nebraska and he ain't going anywhere.

A moderate Republican is almost by definition a Neocon. Ben Sasse is not a Conservative.
What has he done to reduce Government spending?

Meet the Neocons’ Newest American Hero: Ben Sasse

With Senator John McCain in his last term in the U.S. Congress and Senator Lindsey Graham in potential political trouble in South Carolina in 2020, the neo-conservatives have their high hopes set on freshman Republican Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska. Sasse is the new face among cheerleaders in the U.S. Senate advocating further sanctions on Russia, a full investigation of alleged links between the Donald Trump presidential campaign and Russia, and full-throttle support for NATO and numerous free trade agreements.

Recently, Sasse has been a leading Senate critic of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange over the release of some 8000 classified documents detailing the Central Intelligence Agency’s ability to conduct computer hacking and cyber-warfare. Sasse sent out a statement calling for Assange, who has been living under political asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy in London for the past five years, to be imprisoned in the United States.

To be fair, a respected conservative GOP Senator had suggedted that Trump was a 'moderate Republican', do you see him also as moderate Repubican?

Conservative GOP Senator Ted Cruz: "Donald comes from New York and he embodies New York values." "Everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal, are pro-abortion, are pro-gay-marriage, focused around money and the media."

Some say Sasse is not a GOP Adelson-MAGA neocon but Tommy Robinson is a race mixing Jew and Candace Owens is A$AP rocky conservative wing of the pro-swastika Modi-american alliance axis.

Considering that Sasse has been backed by Bill Kristol since day one it's always a good indicator of a neoconservative.

Sometimes I lose this distinction, Trump was not backed by Sheldon Adelson since day one and begrudgingly backed Trump in 2016 when there were no alternatives after tried and tested Rubio was Trumped out, going by a recent Bloomberg news meme.

Going by that standard, MAGA though also opposed Obama peace deal with Iran like Sasse, might not be as hardcore a neoconservative as Sasse and is perhaps more like a pliable one.

You sir, are no lover of liberty.

The MAGA is good. The MAGA is wise. You need to invite the MAGA into your heart, or you can burn in the hellfires of eternity.

Did you mean to say MIGA? we all know MAGA is just a cover for Israeli rule of the US. Sasse may be bad but Trump is a bigger neocon that Sasse could ever be. The whole episode of fake drama to fool the American people.

Some say MAGA-Adelson wing of the Jarvanka party actually perpetuates homosexuality and is pro-diversity and is anti-white. Too be fair, there are quite a few links posted proving this.

I may have gotten that part wrong but there is no doubt that these people work for the same people and if you are not able to see it, you are the problem.

    "may"?

    You did get it wrong.

He has common goals with "them", sure, but he is clearly NOT working with "them".
If he embraced global warming, and all the globalist goals, they would embrace him wholeheartedly, because Trump is not far from them on most things.

But because he is a nationalist, they hate him, and see him as an impediment.

It's just like saying two princes are working together because they are fighting for the kingdom after a King has died, and that the war of succession is actually just a giant ruse.

    It is just plain stupid.

Yeah, both princes want to sit on the throne. Yeah, both princes have the same foreign policy goals (which is usually the same as their father). Yeah, both princes have the same ideas about tax rates and which temples should be built to which Gods.

    But they aren't "working together".

That's false. Neoconservatism is a specific thing. That term gets thrown around entirely too often.
