The Cars frontman Ric Ocasek found dead in Manhattan townhouse

Ric Ocasek, the lead singer of iconic new wave rock band The Cars, was found dead in his Manhattan apartment on Sunday, law enforcement sources told The Post. He was 70 years old.

Ocasek was discovered unconscious and unresponsive at around 4:14 p.m. inside his Gramercy Park pad by his estranged wife, Paulina Porizkova, sources said.

He appeared to have died from natural causes, sources added.

Ocasek and his seminal new wave band The Cars shot to fame with their self-titled hit album in the 1978, which included hits such as “My Best Friend’s Girl” and “Just What I Needed.”

I saw them in 1979. The headline act was REO Speedwagon. Opening for REO were the Rockets, the Cars, Ian Hunter and Head East. Great show. Sad news.

RIP, although I have to say, I saw them in the 70s, had a front row seat, and it was the most boring show I'd ever been to. The whole audience just sat there, unmoving, while they played their first album and left.

Name the two recently passed musicians in this photo.

Is it just misty eyed, middle aged nostalgia, or, from a simple photo of nothing in particular, other than some rockers getting ready to perform, do you get the sense that things were somehow better and more fun then?

The Cars were never known for having an exciting show- Ric didn't even want to be a front man for a band- he wanted to write and be more of a producer. He also liked tall models. He dated a few before marrying Paulina Porizkova.

Yes, in many ways thingscwere better back then. At least so far as the music scene goes, most definitely.

Probably Benjamin Orr of the Cars- he is also dead- died of cancer in 2000. Bassist and did most of the vocals.

That looks to be getting ready to leave for somewhere in front of somebodys house . These days in a large city standing around half naked with long hair and a beer on the curb in large groups might get you tazed. Not to mention you would be on camera .It was normal when I was a kid , that could just be the Smith's packing up coolers for a trip to the lake for a few days . And yes the music was better then . We were certainly Younger..

    cousins and classmates,, and Rockers.
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.
