Yang tries to buy votes on live TV

Presidential candidate Andrew Yang announced at Thursday night’s debate that his campaign will randomly select 10 families and give them a total of $120,000 over the next year as part of a pilot program for his universal basic income plan.
Yang announced the online raffle during his opening statement. People will be able to enter during the next week, according to a person with knowledge of the plans. The money will be distributed to 10 families in increments of $1,000 per month as a way of highlighting Yang’s signature campaign promise, a universal basic income.
That plan, which Yang has dubbed the "Freedom Dividend," would provide every citizen over the age of 18 with $1,000 a month. A campaign official said the money would come from campaign funds and would be paid out for the full year even if Yang does not become the nominee.
Currently, Yang is paying out of his own pocket to provide two families in Iowa and New Hampshire with the $12,000 per year benefit along with a family in Florida who was selected in a Twitter giveaway. But the promise during tonight's debate would dramatically expand the unique campaign tactic.

Yang is one upping the rest of the clowns. Everything is about free stuff. Forget free stuff, Yang will just bribe the entire population with money! Actually, that’s in addition to other free stuff.

I would take his money. It does not mean I will vote for him.

I think this is how he builds a mailing list. Long established politicians already have donor lists.

He is THE SAME as all the Socialist candidates, as far as making what we wants to do clear.

Vow to Steal/Rob cash from 7 million voters , gift the spoils to 50 million voters that are most assuredly going to

Interesting he's doing that, but I thought the policy was weak by him on the debate.

To be fair, Trump also engaged in vote buying in his 2016 campaign.

So many promises are a handout to someone.

Promising tax cuts is the same as giving money to whatever group the tax cut will hit. Trump is promising tax cuts after 2020 for the middle class now, since he took care of the swamp first.

Promising to increase the military is a handout to the military industrial complex.

And on and on it goes.

No it isn't. It's letting them keep money that's already theirs. The government has no right to it in the first place.

    WRONG.

Not taking as much money from people is NOT the same as giving them money and while excessive spending on any government responsibility can amount to a giveaway it is not the same as just handing out money without getting something the government is legitimately supposed to have in return.

By that logic, taxing people at any rate less than 100% is "giving money" to them ...

alright, I used bad wording. Of course tax cuts are good, the 'promise' of them is great. The history of their delivery is the problem. They are typically short term, or have no corresponding budget reductions, or get loaded up by the lobbyists, so promising the cuts is hoodwinking citizens for a short term reprieve. Maybe they should call it tax pruning, since it will grow back.

    [Bold emphasis mine]

What an absurd statement! Do you see what you've assumed there? You've assumed that the government owns 100% of the income in which they tax, and for the government to give a tax cut is for them to allow taxpayers to keep the rest of their money! Your viewpoint is simply in favor of slavery.

So, no, tax cuts are not handouts because the income doesn't belong to the government, in the first place. If that's your position, then you seriously need to read some sound economic books, which you can find all over these forums.

My plan is to give $1 million to everyone over the age of 18. There will no longer be any poor people. Everyone will be a millionaire. Andrew Yang is a cheapskate that wants to keep people poor. Vote for me!

Presumably prices would increase to account for any new currency in circulation and the increased velocity.

After diving deep down the rabbit hole of how our economic system really works, I'm inclined to think this UBI is actually our currency (aka the value of our labor) that's been sitting unused in trust, under control of the Treasury, the whole time the current system has been in effect. Explaining the entire rationale behind that opinion would take a very long post (goes into the whole ALL CAPS NAME securitized birth certificates, mutual fund trading profits from the BC's etc, for those that have looked into it at all) but I think it's just distributing to the people what is already theirs and calling it a "benefit". A previously unclaimed benefit but not "new" currency being created. The entire economic system has been socialist since the New Deal...
