O'Rourke wants to mandate selling AK-47's & AR-15's to Gov.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/beto-o-ro...194700787.html

According to a Buzzfeed News reporter, he said: “I want to be really clear that that’s exactly what we are going to do.” The candidate later shared that quote on Twitter, adding: "We need to buy back every single assault weapon."

Anyone who owns an AK-47 or AR-15 will “have to sell them to the government,” he added.

Mr O’Rourke, whose mandatory buyback programme is a part of his comprehensive gun control plan, has also called for a ban on assault-style guns and high capacity magazines, which he has also said would be required to be sold to the US government under his administration.

That’s one way to trigger a civil war I suppose. It would be funny to see Francis demanding everyone just ignore SCOTUS.

Force you to sell your rifle to the government and then they use it against you. I'm willing to bet that the government would then turn all those rifles over to the police.

This really is nothing more than the government trying to save money and give you safety.

Would be nice if they pay a decent price per unit. Winter months and unused time on the Tormach would make for some sideline income.

That's what FDR did with gold. The difference is that gold buys things. Lead kills things.

Thank god this guy will never get anywhere near the office to even attempt to do that. Then again, now that he said it, all the other candidates will now jump on the bandwagon and swear to do the exact same thing if they get elected. Statements like this should be a campaign killer.

Unfortunately the American people have become so pussified that if the 2nd Amendment was ever gotten rid of, they wouldn't do anything about it. Hell, my mother even said that if no one was allowed to own a firearm she'd still be living in the US.

If only 1% of only gun owners decided to resist, it would still be unprecedented since the Civil War. I’m not comfortable trying to predict the fall of those dice.

    Beware the dangerous old men.

You would be surprised at what you can overhear at the VFW, or even the "early bird dinner," for that matter. Thanks to the "War on Terror," there are also many younger combat veterans, many from a lineage of soldiers. They know that old people can be stubborn, and "the government threw grandpa in jail because he didn't turn in his guns" will not go over well. As an older friend of mine whom I see at Denny's on occasion tells me, "I'm just sayin'."

At which point will Americans realize that creating an unaccountable institution that is able to pass its liability on to tax-payers is immoral and attracts sociopaths?

Or, if a DEM wins he may be appointed to a cabinet level spot. Say, as a White House Advisor.

Come they would, at 3:00 a.m. with a no-knock raid. Not at first, but by ones and twos so people don't really notice. If it comes down to it, people would need to be immediately proactive.

MEDFORD, Mass. (AP) — Democratic presidential hopeful Beto O'Rourke says a mandatory government buyback program for AK-47 and AR-15 rifles is needed because other gun control measures don't do enough to remove weapons already on the streets.
O'Rourke spoke Thursday at Tufts University in his first campaign stop in Massachusetts. He said that while universal background checks and red flag laws that allow guns to be removed from those deemed a danger to themselves or others will save lives, neither will address the millions of assault-style weapons already in private hands.
He said the country needs to buy back those weapons.
"There are more than 10 million AR-15 and AK-47s on the streets of our communities today and so we must take the necessary though politically difficult step of saying that we have to buy those AR-15 and AK-47s," O'Rourke said. "This is a mandate that every single American who owns one of them will have to fulfill."

    From the debate tonight.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/o-rourke-...013359843.html

Presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke stood by his call for a mandatory government buyback program for AK-47 and AR-15 rifles during Thursday night’s presidential primary debate in Houston, saying “Hell yes” the government would take the firearms from their owners.
“Are you proposing taking away their guns and how would this work?” asked ABC moderator and “World News Tonight” anchor David Muir, referring to O’Rourke’s proposal for cracking down on mass shootings.
“I am,” the former Texas congressman responded, “if it’s a weapon that was designed to kill people on a battlefield.”
He added: “If the high-impact, high-velocity round when it hits your body shreds everything inside of your body because it was designed to do that so that you would bleed to death on a battlefield and not be able to get up and kill one of our soldiers.”

“Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47,” he shouted over cheers from the audience. “We’re not going to allow it to be used against our fellow Americans anymore.”

The Associated Press noted that Second Amendment Foundation founder Alan Gottlieb welcomed O’Rourke’s push, simply for the damage that it does to the gun control movement. Gottlieb said, “This is what their goal is. We’ve always said it, now they’re saying it. Now they’ve said it and we’re going to make them eat it.”
