Speaking on the TV circuit on Sunday, White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow confirmed that the US president is really mulling the purchase of world’s largest island: "It's an interesting story,” Larry Kudlow told Fox News Sunday. “It’s developing. We’re looking at it. We don’t know." He also reminded host Dana Perino that “years ago” another US President, Harry Truman, also considered buying the 2,166,086-sq-km island, 80 percent of which is covered with ice.
According to Kudlow, Denmark - which incorporates Greenland as a self-governed territory - should sell it to America because “Denmark is an ally.”
“Greenland is a strategic place… they’ve got a lot of valuable minerals,” he explained, and he is right: Danish surveys have found that the owner of the island would stake a claim to around 900,000 sq km of the continental shelf in the Arctic Ocean.
And on Sunday afternoon Trump himself confirmed the report was legitimate when he said speaking to reporters that Greenland is "strategically interesting" and furthermore, that "Denmark loses a lot of money on Greenland."
As we reported last week, the Wall Street Journal said that Trump "listened with interest" as his advisers discussed Greenland’s strategic location and vast natural resources, directing them to study the possibility of acquiring the island for the US. Not even the fact that Greenland is an autonomous country with over 56,000 people and its own local government, appeared to faze Trump, and while it relies on Denmark for two thirds of its budget, Copenhagen couldn’t sell it even if it wanted to.

The answer may be no for now but that could easily change.

Lets do some math here;
Since Copenhagen Doesn't have the authority to sell it, Greenland is a
Sovereign Country, lets annex it, make it our 51st state, we could
pay the residents a million or 10 million each and still have a bargain.
I can assure you that not one resident there is a part of the Mexican Drug Cartel,
MS 13 nor can't wait to spread Hepatitis C, import Felons, import terrorists,
third world shtheads, socialism, nor wants to come here and rape our women.
Lets do this deal.
And yea, it will be our 58th State according to Barrack Obama , the Muslim Faith guy.........
Why buy it? Just move a couple hundred thousand people there and take it over via the democratic process. A bunch of open border liberals should have no issue with going there. If Denmark says they cannot go there they can explain how they can go wherever they want. bla, bla, bla....
It sounds like a plan.
If Denmark should happen to have a serious financial crisis I'm sure their attitude and that of the people of Greenland would change.
Don't make it a state though, they will be Euro-socialists and we don't need them having EC votes, Senators and House Reps, just leave them with the same status they have under Denmark except the US gets territorial control for military purposes and resource extraction.

Provided the population remains close to where it is not, we don't care, 56k , lol we're good, they'll
all be wealthy , we'll set up a special 'plan' for their statehood, some stipulations in the charter, or
worse case , make them a US Territory (?) ........
I thought you said they were a sovereign Country , how does Denmark have a 'Charter' , how does that work ?
Don't forget guys , free ice, you can take your coolers there anytime you like
and pack the sht out of them.
I think round trip is less that $2400 first class... cargo (steerage) is even cheaper///
I'm not sure about the details of their association with Denmark.
I'd rather have them be a territory or a possession (I'm not entirely sure of the difference but I think possessions have more independence) than a state unless we can get 100K conservatives to move there and take over.

The reaction to President Trump's sudden interest in buying Greenland from Denmark has been mostly one of derision. And Denmark, which owns the territory, appears to oppose any sale.
But don't laugh — an American purchase of Greenland could represent an extraordinary deal in terms of America's national security, economic interests, and environmental protection.
As much as it might seem out of the blue, U.S. acquisition of Greenland is not at all a strange or irrational idea. Following Denmark's fall to Nazi Germany in 1940, American forces defended Greenland. The roots of American-Greenland comradeship are thus old and formal. In 1946, one Harry S. Truman even attempted to purchase Greenland for $100 million. Was Truman crazy? On the contrary, he was the president who ended a global war and set America on its ultimate course to defeat the Soviet Union.
As for the contemporary utility of purchasing Greenland, it has extraordinary strategic value. Through the U.S. Air Force base already present at Thule, Greenland offers critical intelligence capabilities to conduct satellite operations and to detect possible over-the-North-Pole nuclear missile launches from China or Russia. Thule better allows the U.S. to warn its citizens of an imminent attack.
And it does more than that. Thanks to Thule's deep water port and long runway, the base provides a logistics hub for operations in the Arctic. And it gives the U.S. military the means to deter and defeat prospective aggression. Russia, in particular, has been working to secure territorial control over resource-rich areas of the Arctic. America's presence in Greenland is increasingly relevant for that reason.
The purchase of Greenland would further strengthen these existing national security benefits. Unbound from political sensitivities in Denmark, for example, the U.S. could station missile forces in Greenland, including intermediate range missile forces. Russia's Arctic ambitions would have to be put on ice.
Greenland also abounds with resources. An already energy independent U.S. would have unfettered access to a land rich not only in hydrocarbons but also in rare earth metals that are currently only available from an adversary, China. Greenland also controls flourishing fishing waters.
But this isn't just about American interests. Greenland's small population also has everything to gain from a massive influx of American investment. The surge in tourism alone would surely offer a vast untapped potential.
...
If it were to happen and was a good idea it of course would not be Trumps idea. Been thought about before and has been ongoing.
We could relocate @oyarde and all of our Injun reservations there and make it a Casino haven like Macao.

If someone believes predictions of global warming, I imagine that real estate in Greenland would be expected to increase in value.
This is a corporatist dream deal.
This is even better than the Alaska model.
Residents there already have no property rights.
Mining/fishing rights will handed out to corporate friends of government.
Residents may or may not be granted administrative approval to stay in their residences and occupations, depending on their behaviour.
Social programs and welfare to make sure that the residents don't get uppity.
Privatize the resources.
Socialize the natives.
Just like Alaska.

Could be an Art of the Deal type move. Buy a business, seize its assets, load it with debt, then declare bankruptcy and walk away with the profit.
