Social Security, what happens when you don't enroll your kids?

There seems to be no law requiring you to do so, but what are the effects to the kids?

They can't open a bank account, can they get a job? I curious as to just how it effects little Johnny if he decides he doesn't want to get one when he comes of age.

At which point will Americans realize that creating an unaccountable institution that is able to pass its liability on to tax-payers is immoral and attracts sociopaths?

Depends, are the kids Hispanic? Could they pass for Mexicans? Do they reside near Chicago, IL?

Johnny may not get hired without a SSN -- it's up to the employer. If he is hired, his employer will have to withhold federal income tax at the highest rate, which means Johnny's paycheck will likely be less than it would have been if he had given his employer a SSN, although he may be able to get a tax refund the following year.

Depending on the State he lives in Johnny may not be able to register to vote, get a driver's license, or be eligible for public assistance.
We have long had death and taxes as the two standards of inevitability. But there are those who believe that death is the preferable of the two. "At least," as one man said, "there's one advantage about death; it doesn't get worse every time Congress meets."

Johnny could get signed up and do all those things on his own. I guess my point is why do parents sign up their kids instead of letting them do it when and if they want to? Because they just assume that's what you have to do?

It's a little fuzzy at this point whether it was their mom or I that signed up ours but I don't think it ever occurred to either one of us not to. (Late 70's-early 80's

Beginning in 1993 a parent could claim a child as a dependent on his tax return and get a dependency exemption (which for 2017 was equivalent to a deduction of $4050 per dependent) only if he furnished the child's SSN on the return. That's why people got SSN's for newborns. The 2017 tax law eliminated such exemptions, but there are still some instances where furnishing a child's SSN is required in order to obtain a tax benefit, such as the child tax credit.

Ok, but that doesn't speak to why my parents signed me up in the 50's and I signed my kids up. It was one of those "everybody does it" things I guess and I never questioned it.

    Wish I had known better.

You are sort of screwed without it,, in the current socialist system.

I ran around 7+ years without,, and worked. but it takes out of the box creativity.
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure y'all can get a TIN from teh IRS instead of an SSN if ya want. Have a look into that.

Sure, but the same principle applies. It should be little Johnny's choice to decide whether or not to do it.
