I'm no fan of Alex Jones but he should have his social media accounts back.

And Tommy Robinson and the rest who aren't as famous but find themselves banned or shadow banned meaning their content disappears. That's why the rule needs to be broad so Alex can come back.

People much worse were already in charge.

I can imagine just fine but everything I can imagine was starting to happen already with a government sockpuppet cartel pretending to be private companies so that they were immune to the 1stA.

The Post Office is government run but they have to obey the 1stA and can't censor your mail.

We haven't seen the executive order yet so your just speculation. The FCC will not be in charge of content moderation, there will be specific rules to allow challengers to the bans and shadow bans. Plus they can lose immunity. The internet is not a private property this is all constitutional.

No you have a lack of understanding of the power of social media over every aspect of poeples lives. They won the information war and informatoin is king. We shouldn't have kings in this country deciding who gets to talk to who and who gets to be politically active or run for office. This is techno tyranny and that is no exaggeration. If you can't see the tyranny you don't have a clue how the world works. Most people get all of their news off social media, and they control how people talk to eachother. They basically control what people know and what words mean.

Its already been mathematically proven that the 2018 midterms were manipulated by tech companies to swing the house to the democrats. After 2016 tech companies and social media companies did a purge of conservatives and the left controls all electronic communications now.

Yep, and they decided after he won that they would not let it happen again. They've actually said that.

Youtube sold out big recently, they took a huge amount of money from corporations to put sponsored content first. Before it was done like search engines but now its like todays TV and they control whatever is on the TV. They changed the whole product over night after the 2016 election.

Exactly. The guys who have been known to launch full-blown paramilitary raids against health food stores and other small businesses for the specific purpose of SUPPRESSING their 1st Amendment rights will now be entrusted with protecting the 1st Amendment. You can't make this $#@! up.

What if a liberal extremist was president and decided they wanted to control social media content?

Politicians should not have control over media.

I lack no understanding. I just think it CAN get worse that it has been. When the other side takes power next time, all new powers will be in their hands and they will use them.

This is not about controlling content its about challenging bans and shadow bans from these platforms. The rules are going to be tight and specific, we will see.

Your fears are mislaid. Trump is trying to hold these companies to account. We haven't seen the order yet but from what I've read its going to be a limited rule to allow challenges to the bans and shadow bans these companies hand out, under the FCC or the FTC. Trump wants to strip them of immunity so they can be challenged in the courts.

Another promise fulfilled, social media changes were promised in MAGA's recent speech:

"President Donald Trump on Monday condemned “racism, bigotry and white supremacy” in the wake of two mass shootings over the weekend that left 29 dead and dozens more injured.
He backed so-called red-flag laws that enable guns to be removed from high-risk individuals, called for mass shooters to be given the death penalty and vowed to address radicalization through the internet and social media."

So Alex Jones FINALLY has enough of Trump? "He just crapped all over us!"

Let me know when the FCC launches a SWAT raid or when they or the Post Office censor someone the way that the Government Sockpuppet cartel does.

Trump wants social media to detect mass shooters before they commit crimes

After mass shootings in both Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas, this weekend, President Donald Trump called on government organizations as well as social media companies to “develop tools that can detect mass shooters before they strike.”

Social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter are already detecting and deleting terrorist content. What’s new is that Trump’s statement specifically called for them to work “in partnership” with the Department of Justice and law enforcement agencies. The president’s comments have prompted questions about how this partnership would work, whether it would be effective, and what impact it could have on Americans’ civil liberties.

It’s also not clear whether social media companies will start seeking to identify the warning signs for a mass shooter before someone makes direct threats, in order to alert authorities.

Recode contacted the White House to clarify whether Trump’s statement means he’s asking social media companies to proactively report potential domestic terrorists but did not receive a response.
If such a tool is developed and used as Trump has suggested — to try to predict mass shooters before they act — it’s unlikely that it would work.

As Vox’s Brian Resnick and Javier Zarracina demonstrated, however commonplace mass shooters in the US may seem they are still very rare, and even a made-up model with 99 percent accuracy would not be enough to effectively pinpoint mass shooters in a population of 320 million people.

As Ben Wizner, a lawyer for the ACLU, put it, “The problem with that is we don’t yet have the tech to determine pre-crime, Minority Report notwithstanding. We need to understand that even if all mass shooters have said X, the vast majority of people who have said X don’t become mass shooters.”

What’s more likely to happen is that all sorts of speech — and people — would get swept up in the technology dragnets Trump seems to be proposing.

THIS isnt about control. It's about stopping the bans handed out to people like Alex Jones or Tommy Robinson or the shadow banning of many conservative blogs like gatewaypundit who said his traffic is down 97% since 2018 due to facebook. we dont want to control content Zippy we just want to hold them accountable.

The two are different, one removes control from the government sockpuppet cartel and the other would increase law-enforcement surveillance powers.

I know....lmao....the only reason we did find out was because of whistle blowers. How many companies do you think are doing this right now. I'm willing to bet at least a dozen sprung up since then. NO LAWS have been passed since then to keep it from happening again.

It's all about control, you are only kidding yourself. Instead of deleting content on the sly, they will LEGALLY be able to do it. Look what the FCC did to Howard Stern....lol...lets just give them even more power....haha

Let the judges decide. Strip them of immunity. That's where we're heading.
