    Amash files cannabis bill

Congressman Files Marijuana Bill After Leaving Republican Party

    By Kyle Jaeger
    July 16, 2019

In one of his first legislative acts since leaving the Republican Party earlier this month amid a feud with the president, Rep. Justin Amash (I-MI) filed a bill on Monday that would let states set their own marijuana policies without federal interference.

If that sounds familiar, it’s because bipartisan legislation that would accomplish the same goal has already been filed this Congress.

But unlike the nearly identical Strengthening the Tenth Amendment Through Entrusting States (STATES) Act, Amash’s new bill excludes one provision that would require the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to study the effects of cannabis legalization on road safety and issue a report on its findings within a year of the law’s enactment.

That language states that the GAO must study “traffic crashes, fatalities, and injuries” in legal cannabis states, actions taken by those states to “address marihuana-impaired driving,” testing standards being used to detect impaired driving and federal initiatives “aiming to assist States that have legalized marihuana with traffic safety.”

Given Amash’s libertarian leanings, it stands to reason that he opposes spending government dollars to conduct the research and simply supports the broader states’ rights intent of the original legislation.

Most stoners are safer drivers than sober people, so spending money researching that subject doesn't make much sense.

Always the fine print with Amash. Read each bill, dissect it, and fully understand it.

    Ya, it's called google.

There is a collection of about 15 or 20 studies done by various governments and related organizations whose purpose was to determine how detrimental using cannabis was to driving.

It turns out that what most studies found, was that small to moderate doses of cannabis actually made drivers more cautious, focused and more likely to obey traffic laws, stay under the speed limit, etc.

It also does not impair reaction time.

In all studies, it was found to be far safer than alcohol, but in some of the studies they concluded that the drivers under the influence of cannabis were actually safer than sober drivers in that study.

I believe people who are stoned definitely drive more safely than those who are highly caffeinated.

Not for long. Google censors more and more content. Soon the only thing you'll be able to search is "Women scientists" and "Are white people racist?"

Come to my committee meetings and you will find a different reality. War vets and old ladies with dyed red hair have no interest whatsoever with anything to do with liberty or fiscal responsibility. Hand on heart, they are for Biometric tracking just because trump said so.

That kind will never change and if they might it won't be because of stupid stunts like Amash pulled, Amash will make them less likely to listen.

They don't even know who Amash is. Every time I bring him up as an example, and suggest Mike Kelly should listen to Amash once in while, they get upset because nobody should ever dis on "used car salesman" Mike Kelly. The "god" Mike Kelly. F'ing LIB!

Trust me, it is not the immigrants in my area, they actually helped me with the delegate project at the precincts back in '12 because they actually seek freedom and liberty and want reduced taxes for their businesses. All 3 delegates won by landslide. The old farts and dingbat wives at all of the committee meetings didn't even know who their own romney delegates were is why we won.

Well, I have much experience not just in my area or my state. I don't think you quite understand how I have been involved.

Sure, there are problems with immigrants I do not deny. They may take advantage like anybody would because idiotic Americans simply allow it to happen - see my posts above regarding mike kelly.

They vote for bad things at much higher rates than Americans, for generations they have contributed to our loss of liberty, that's why the powers that be push for ever more immigrants.

Well SS, a wall ain't gonna stop anyone. All it will do is make me broker while funding the contractors who lobby the WH for those contracts. Next thing you know, if/after the wall is built, property is taken away controlled by the FED and biometrics is implemented (it absolutely is coming), somebody will come along and fly them in. And don't forget the boats! Pretty soon you will be free as a bird as long as you don't travel anywhere within the domestic US of A!

Everything that makes it harder and more expensive to invade helps.
And biometrics is a separate issue that you are making worse by supporting the invaders.

We are never going to agree concerning this topic. I am right, you are wrong, so let's move on to other topics of discussion ;-)

Either that or I am finding myself in the mood for hot-wings that I am having delivered.
