Bond's number is up: black female actor 'is the new 007'

Daniel Craig retains title role but 25th instalment in the franchise reveals codename has been reassigned to British actor Lashana Lynch

While Daniel Craig is set to reprise his role as James Bond in the next film, the franchise is set for a shake-up, with reports claiming that black British actor Lashana Lynch has been cast as 007 – taking over Bond’s secret agent number after his character leaves MI6.

The Mail has quoted from an anonymous “movie insider”, who says that the 25th film opens with Bond (Craig), retired in Jamaica, being called back to action to fight a new villain.

“There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says, “Come in 007”, and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman,” the source said. “It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007.”

Originally from West London, Lynch, 31, made her film debut in 2011’s Fast Girls, but her breakthrough role came earlier this year, as fighter pilot Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel.

The news of her being given Bond’s famous code name has been widely praised on social media, coming weeks after US singer Halle Bailey was cast as Ariel in Disney’s live action remake of the Little Mermaid.
Its a rumor now but it seems like Lashana Lynch is going to be the new lead of 007 movie. I came here looking for the thread for this story and none of you guys have posted it. For shame

I quit watching bond movies when Roger Moore quit doing Bond.

This latest attempt to milk another few bucks off his character doesn't interest me in the least.

Your missing out. Several of the Daniel Craig films are the best of the whole filmology.

It won't take very long to get them home but it won't be overnight either but Iraq says they can't stay and they are coming home just like Trump said.

Tee-Vee as a medium has pretty much fallen out of my favor, I do like some Youtube stuff though...

Movies/Tee-Vee all seem to be pushing one agenda or another and I just don't want to spend my time listening to either.

I'll keep 'em in mind if the opportunity to watch them arises though.

The last Bond movie I watched was Golden eye. I sorta lost interested when they replaced Pierce Brosnan the rough and muscly Craig. But I plan on catching up with the old 007 movies to see what I missed. There aren't too many movies I am interested in anymore.

Bond is a male character. Everything about him is male. If they wanted a female secret agent, use creativity and get a new character. That's what Hollywood did in the past. There were plenty of female heroes.

As for a black guy, I think Denzel could rock that role.

How do you know that this new girl doesn't have a penis?

Bond is still going to be male, the new character is supposed to take over while Bond is retired. In essence, she most likely would be a one off placeholder while they get a new actor. But I agree, they should keep it the way it has been and make a new series for a female character.

The same way you know Roger Moore doesn't have a vagina. She identifies as a cis gendered female i.e. the gender she claims to be is in line with her genitalia.

And when you're down here Georgie, you'll be black, too.

Hey, what about trans spies? With so many of those around, there must be a market for trans-bond. Should offer equal pay too.

Goes into the bathroom, leaves transformed into a different gender, perfect premise. We can call the movie 'Operation' Trans-gender

I wonder if the new Bond will retain the promiscuous nature of that character (although that may have lessened due to PCness these past few decades).

I love me some Pussy Galore...

This will go over well. It's like they want to lose money.

I'll add that having a "new" 007 is ridiculous and completely contradicted by the source material. It's not a hand-me-down label that can apply to just anyone.

They couldn't keep the name James cause the new guy is black ? ?

If I remember correctly, Idris Elba wanted to be 007 but was rejected because he was black. Apparently if you're a black woman that won't happen.

For me, Daniel Craig and Sean Connery were the best Bonds. I quit watching when Brosnan took over. Bringing in Craig and new writers/ directors brought the excitement back. The got too formula for a while.

Craig was ok in my book, but no Sean C, nor the other earlier ones.

I agree with that. Sean set the precedent, and I liked Roger Moore, but his Bond was a little too jokey and took it into some really silly places. I still liked him though and some of the stories were really engaging. But it got a little too lighthearted with little danger.

Pierce was the same as Roger IMO. They had a good idea with Timothy Dalton when they had bond go all rogue, but the movie and story just sucked.

Daniel Craig's bond is dark....it also resembles the books a whole lot more. He has made two stinkers, but that's the director and writers fault. Skyfall and Casino Royale are absolutely amazing

Goldfinger, Casino Royale (2006), The Spy who loved Me, Skyfall, You Only Live Twice, Live and Let Die. Those are my favorites.

Also its pretty obvious that the new bond movie with this female lead is going to flop.
