    Kellogg’s Shrinks Size Yet Again

Cereal boxes are getting so thin, it will be hard for them to actually stand up before long. They have been shrinking the size for years. Recently the size of a standard box of Raisin Bran shrunk yet again. This probably applies to all of their cereals.

Monetary inflation leads to price (per ounce) inflation...

    Update:

There isn't "one size" for cereals. My store has at least two sizes of Kellogs Raisin Bran. Searching for sizes on Google and I can find 14.3 ounces, 16.6 ounces, 18.7 ounces, 20 ounces, 24.8 ounces, 56 ounces, 76.5 ounces- and that is the first page of results.

They will just make them bigger in a while and claim you're getting 25-30% more "free".

Good detective work Sherlock. There is a standard size box. Then there is a “family size” that is bigger. Then there are the big box, multiple bag sizes. Occasionally someplace like a Walgreen will have a small box. And then each variation can come in different sizes (Raisin Bran Crunch, for example, usually slightly smaller). As they are transitioning, some of those sizes you found will disappear as they sell out of them.

All of that is beside the point. They are reducing again. Try to find that 18.7 oz regular size of Raisin Bran in 6 months. (16.6 is the new size for the regular box).

The “Family” size is now probably what the regular size used to be, and they can charge double for that, without creating any inflation. No doubt the government statisticians know this full well. The standard size box is probably in their CPI somewhere, which is why Zippy is so interested, being our resident government statistics distributor and Fed apologist.
