Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi on July 1 issued a directive to the country's popular mobilization units (PMUs) that they must have completed their integration with the Iraqi army by July 31, Reuters reported. The premier said that the PMUs must close their "economic offices" and steer clear of interests outside the military; sever ties with political leaders; and discard their militia names in favor of military nomenclature.
