Thread: RIP, Justin Raimondo

  1. #31
I had intended to say nothing, because I'd rather not speak ill of the dead, but this thread keeps going, so I have to say something.

In 2015, Raimondo $#@! on Rand Paul big time, and shilled for Trump.

He was on the leading edge of the libertarian defection from the Pauls towards retard; I will never forgive that.

That said, prior to that, he did do a lifetime of good service as an anti-war person and was a friend of Murray.

So, I guess I'll say: he was far from a saint, but I'm sorry he's dead.

I can see how you would feel that way, seeing how you made such a bigger impact on the anti war movement.

A person who doesn't have a column on an obscure website shouldn't be allowed to state facts.

Yes, you told me, well played..

Then allow me to rephrase and put it more bluntly:

What I said about his extremely treacherous behavior in relation to Trump is true, and his being a prominent writer in no way changes that.

Ya, well, he's in good company. There were quite a few right there with him. Truth be told, Trump isn't turning out as bad as I predicted. No major war started yet, but he can still meet my expectations. The rest of it is just standard shell game, make proclamations about cutting back federal bureaucracy while kowtowing to corporations.

Still all in all he has changed the tone.

Tom Woods and Lew Rockwell also attacked Rand BEFORE THE FIRST VOTE IN THE PRIMARIES.

    Yep, that's true.

Apparently, Rand wasn't quite pure enough, but Trump was a true libertarian.

Or, maybe, these people just wanted to sell ads on their $#@!ty little websites?

Great, I suppose you (and the libertarian icons) had the same thoughts about Obama?

He didn't bomb Iran (he made a deal with them, which Trump broke).

He didn't bomb Syria (Trump did, and has more troops there than Obama did).

He droned a lot of people (but not as many as Trump).

He attacked Libya (which Trump supported).

And then Trump massively increased military spending.

But, by George, Trump is somehow a peacenik, because Sean Hannity says so...

...and we all know how much Sean Hannity loves peace (look at how well he treated Ron Paul).

Still all in all he has changed the tone.
Yea, from "wow, the GOP is a warmongering socialist piece of $#@! which we have to change" to "MAGA OMG who do I blow!?!"

Wait a minute, Obama didn't bomb Syria? (yes he did). No, I don't think Trump is a peacenik, far from it. After his cabinet picks I fully expected him to start another major war. I $#@!ing hate his cozying up to the disgusting Saudi's, his bromance with Duterte, and just a crapload of other things, not the least his copsucking. And I am completely opposed to his $#@!ing with Venezuela and Iran.

I was totally opposed to him while the people mentioned were giving him cover, look it up if you feel the need. My posts are here for anyone to see. What I am saying is I thought he would be worse, that's all. My bar wasn't very high, at all.

He's done the boilerplate repub stuff which kind of surprised me, I don't know why, and his economics are following the same path which doesn't.

Bottom line for me, if he doesn't start another major war I'll be pleasantly surprised and in my book that's nothing to sneeze at.

Your expectations have gotten shockingly low..

But I well remember you opposing Trump.

There aren't many of us still around who did.

To the point, though, Raimondo didn't oppose him; he pushed him as early as summer 2015 (while simultaneously attacking Rand).

Raimondo was pushing for Trump at exactly the same time that we were dealing with masses of Trump shills here.

He did other good things previously, but what he did in 2015 shouldn't be forgotten just because the man has died.

As I said, I respect him for his previous work, his association with Rothbard.

Well, I was of the same opinion of the sudden Trumpification of a bunch of influential names in libertarian circles. Still has me perplexed.

My expectations were very, very low to begin with. Lower than what I've seen. I fully expected us to be engaged in another full military conflict by now. The rest is just theater.

I'm inclined to attribute it to traffic-greed, but, whether that or stupidity, it doesn't exactly bode well for their leadership abilities.

Let's pray those low expectations keep being met.

Amen to that, to much blood has already been shed for the war machine.

I think they knew things we didn't, there is something going on behind the scenes.

I didn't like Trump at all until he exceeded my expectations, I was sure he would be little different from Hitlery and that was why they made him the GOP nominee.

Ya, no. I doubt Tom Woods and the like were privy to Trumps inner circle.

It wouldn't have to be Trump's inner circle, just connections to people who were connected to him.

Trump's father was in the John Birch Society and they have been much more positive about him than I would have expected, that's one of the reasons I reconsidered him after he started to exceed my expectations.

This, I was heart broken by his performance in the 2016 elections. I have been a fan of antiwar.com through the Obama era when I discovered them and I tried to donate every time they had a fundraiser because I realized their importance in our political system. More than anything, I really appreciated the way they called out the deceptive and fake anti war president Obama with facts about his pro war policies. They then followed this performance by promoting the Trump candidacy as the antiwar candidate and at that point, he was essentially dead to me.

Well, going to shut up now but condolences to his partner and family. He was a pioneer in his field and did very good work up until a point RIP Justin

Bomb Syria as in bombing the Syrian military force. Obama bombed them once in Dier Ezzor but he said that was a mistake. Trump on the other hand bombed not just Syrian forces in Syria but also Russian ones. Trump just as bad as Obama, he supported the Libyan war, fighting the Syria war more aggressively than Obama and now pushing for 2 more wars in Venezuela and Iran.

    Oh have a laugh...

Trump is an imbecile; the man clearly gave no thought to politics, except as was required for his little TV show.

He had only the political thoughts we'd expect of a NYC leftist: socialized medicine and a giant, confiscatory wealth tax.

...might as well pick out some random son of a bitch from any bar in New York.

I don't think there was a better anti war writer than Justin Raimondo. He was so articulate and always got to the real heart of whatever he was writing about. His understanding of geopolitics was intuitive and his commitment to the truth unwavering. This is such huge loss and I'll really miss him.

I wonder what his username here was.
On no! Of all of the people to loose now, why him? So many "antiwar" groups out there are so fake. They were antiwar when Bush was in office and either silent or worse, pro war, when it was Obama. He will be sorely missed.

RIP. An anti-war person picked the best chance to prevent a 100% chance of large scale wars under a Clinton Presidency. Yet years later people still hold grudges even with a dead man choosing Trump over someone who ran a poor campaign and stood no chance.
