McConnell opens door to vote on Iran war authorization

    A victory of sorts!

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday said he’s willing to vote on a controversial amendment that would require Congress to approve any military action against Iran, but warned colleagues it could signal disunity in Washington to a foreign adversary.

McConnell said he’s open to voting on a bipartisan amendment sponsored by Sens. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) and Tom Udall (D-N.M.) that would block funding for military action against Iran without prior congressional approval.

The legislation also has support from Republican Sens. Rand Paul (Ky.) and Mike Lee (Utah).

    This could be big.

One theory is that Trump is boxed in because of who he is surrounded by (Bolton, Pompeo, neocon campaign funding, military industrial complex, bureaucracy, etc) and wants a way out without antagonizing them.

This could be it... he can whine publicly and privately to the neocons about Congress but then shrug his shoulders and say "Darn we can't move forward....what a shame"

    Blame that rascal Rand Paul!

Of course the usual suspects (Tom Cotton) are aghast at the prospect of following the constitution at the expense of world empire. The smear campaign begins:

"The president does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack...that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation." "Attack Libya UPDATE 8/13: and Syria"

"We can track down terrorists without trampling on our civil liberties.... the federal government will only issue warrants and execute searches because it needs to, not because it can." "Need to murder UPDATE 8/13: and track citizens" ~ Barack H. Obama
