Republicans Will Be a Third Party in 10-15 Years Due to 'Xenophobia' and 'Hyper-Masculinity,' California Governor Says

Republicans risk becoming a third party in the next 10 to 15 years because of their "xenophobia" and "hyper-masculinity," according to California Governor Gavin Newsom.

"California in the 1990s is a lot like America in 2019, 2020, 2021. Here's the real story: The Republican Party has walked off a cliff. They are third party status," Newsom said during an exclusive interview with Axios on Monday.

After decades of decline, the California Republican Party officially hit third party status last year. According to a report from Political Data Inc., independent voters outnumbered registered Republicans by about 73,000 people. The state as a whole remained blue, with 44 percent of the state's electorate registered as Democrats.

The California GOP also experienced devastating losses during the 2018 midterm election cycle. Republicans now hold just seven seats in the state's 53-member congressional delegation.

"That is exactly what Donald Trump is doing and Mitch McConnell, who is completely complicit, is doing to the Republican Party nationally. They don't even know what is about to hit them. I am honestly empathetic towards what they are about to experience, which is a profound demise because of their own making," Newsom added.

You are supposedly in California. Most Californians would know this, especially given that I bolded it in the article.

Third party status because it is too dangerous to reveal your party affiliation in real life. Also GOP in Cali sucks balls.

And now it’s time for the rest of the story. Newsome is correct on a couple of points. More people register as independent, or more officially as “decline to state”. They do not register as Republican, as GOP leaning voters do not have blind obedience like the Democrats do.

He is also correct that this is due to hatred by Californians of the GOP RINO swamp establishment, like Mitch McConnell. They no longer register as Republicans because they despise the swamp, not because McConnell is too far right.

Newsome is also wrong in that this is due to toxic masculinity and xenophobia. It is exactly the opposite. It is because so many Californians, being on the front lines, oppose mass immigration.

And Newsome also deceptively ignores the fact that parties almost don’t matter anymore in California. It is open primaries. No need to be in a party in a primary, with exception of POTUS primaries, which are only once every four years. There may be a spike in GOP registration right before the next primary, as these unaffiliated voters prefer Trump, but it really doesn’t matter. California is dead in POTUS elections to anyone but Democrats. The State is winner take all, and always goes to the Democrat.

The tables have turned. Registering as a Republican in California in 2019 is like registering as Communist Party USA in 1950.

"Independent voters" is not a party- as I mentioned, even "independent voters" still vote most of the time for one of the two major parties- Republicans or Democrats.

So either you don’t live in California, or you are trying to cloud the issue. Or is the other Zippy on vacation?

Yes, but it is not a party. I asked what party would be #2 if Republicans are the third largest party. Are there any "no party preference" candidates? When is their national convention? Nationwide both parties are losing members as they move to the more extremes and away from the center. They will still be the #2 party. But if you do want to consider "non-affiliated" as a party, Dems and Republicans are both minority parties.

You can go ahead and argue that point with Gavin Newsome and Newsweek...

Hm Both are horrible. Even Canada. Unless you dont mind having two or three jobs plus a nightshift working over time. To pay rent, cable bills, Carbon tax, environment tax
Electricity bills with comes a extra hidden fee.

Not everything in a Liberal control dominated governance is a paradise.

Canada Cost of High Living, Toronto vs Vancouver.
    Toronto
    Housing - $2,079.75/month
Very accurate numbers for most of the stuff in the article i highly suggest it.

    Groceries - $283.60/month
Toronto is very expensive if you have a family. Groceries wise.

    Tor
Vancouver is no different. Even migrants that have settled are starting to find it a bit harder on living. Expensiveness are to much. No doubt American liberals would love for America to look like this under their control and their tax polices.

The GOP and Dem Party aren't going anywhere (except further toward national socialism and bolshevism, resp).

There are major fissures in both parties, but the nature of our system makes it unlikely that the parties would actually split.
