Neocons could care less. They would be more than happy to see a couple of US pilots shot down. The war lobby made it clear today in the media that it will take US casualties to justify hard core military strikes on Iran. False flag potential high.
A ton to gain. They draw a red line, (it's always been there, Iran does not tolerate invasion of its air space) Same with the sailors they captured. But they also get practice on US targets. And that target practice was good for Iran, bad for America. America found out what it meant to lose, so they got some data, but not working test/solution. Iran had a successful hit. That means more data gleaned, and assuredness it was done right. Iran has been getting practice in Syria.

And don't think the American drone just accidentally veered off into that air space, business as usual. Just a big oopsie.

If the anonymous reports are even true that Trump ordered strikes it sounds like he was mislead and when he found out the drone was in Iranian airspace he called the strikes off.

I think it highly likely the unmanned spy plane was over Iranian airspace. Washington violates national airspace at will. Just look at the track record of drone bombings and assassinations, and Syria. Also, the Iranians almost immediately released a detailed flight path and exact coordinates of the planes location at time of strike. Regardless, the plane turned off its transponder and refused to respond. And this is during a period if heightened hostile acts by teh empire from an economic sanctions blockade to threats, the news reports promising a massive bombardment of Iran limited to specific targets.

Would Washington have allows any Iranian spyplane within 15 mils let along 100 miles of the US coast? Never.

I suspect that the empire bigwigs just never imagined Iran would shoot its high altitude spy plane down, and may not have even thought they could take out an aircraft at that altitude. Iran sent a message and that message was "Don't tread on me!"

There Is a Problem With the US Account of the Drone Shootdown
For one thing why was the transponder switched off?

Did somebody want Iran to take the damn thing down?

The Pentagon just held a very short press conference. … Lt General Joseph T. Guastella … made a very short statement. No questions were allowed.

He said that the drone was in international airspace at high attitude and “34 kilometer from the nearest point of the Iranian coast” when it was shot down. That is trickery, or if you will trigonometry. High attitude means that the drone flew at a height of around 60,000+ feet or 20 kilometer. If it would have flown directly over the Iranian coastline it would have been “20 kilometer from the nearest point of the Iranian coast”. …

The Iranian IRGC says that the drone had switched off its transponder shortly after takeoff. A look at the usual live air traffic sites confirms that the drone was not tracked by the civil aviation systems which monitor transponder signals.

The U.S. airforce, which each day flies reconnaissance missions near potentially hostile countries, always keeps its transponders on. The transponder signal demonstrates that it has no hostile intent. It prevents accidental air defense engagements. It also allows it to prove that it stays outside of foreign national airspace.

The U.S. has threatened Iran with war and regime change for some 40 years. There is currently a crisis caused by Trumps violation of the nuclear deal with Iran.

Iran says that the drone entered Iranian airspace. I find that to be likely correct. CentCom is not known for telling the truth and the list of proven hostile drone entries into Iranian air space is quite long. …
