Cmdr. Joshua Frey, a 5th Fleet spokesman, said the U.S. Navy was assisting the two vessels that he described as being hit in a "reported attack." He did not say how the ships were attacked or who was suspected of being behind the assault.

Iran's government news agency, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), said 44 sailors from two damaged vessels were picked up by Iranian search and rescue teams in the Gulf Thursday, the Reuters news agency reported. IRNA cited an unnamed informed source. The sailors were taken to the Iranian port of Jask, IRNA said.

I honestly believe if people think its Iran's fault for sinking ships its their fault for implying that they would do it with their comments that shipping wouldn't be safe and that they would shut down shipping through the strait of Hormuz. Iran's whole dialog about this to appeal to their hardliners against America just gives the hardliners in our country a motivation to attack them, that makes their warmongers no better than our warmongers.

(bully) Pompeo woos India with ‘secure’ 5G, arms sales & nuke project after recent tensions
    https://www.rt.com/news/461750-pompe...a-trip-offers/

As the US warns India against buying Russian anti-air systems, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is gearing up for a trip to New Delhi, where he will try to sell American 5G tech, LNG gas, and arms to Narendra Modi’s government.

Adamant that India and the US share a common vision “throughout the Indo-Pacific,” Washington wants New Delhi to prove its commitment to US interests by purchasing an entire lineup of US products and services, Mike Pompeo hinted on Wednesday ahead of his trip to the country on June 25.

Pompeo also wants India to end its reliance on Venezuelan and Iranian crude by purchasing Liquefied Natural Gas and constructing six US-made nuclear power plants.

“We want to complete the Westinghouse civil nuclear project, and deliver more LNG and crude,” Pompeo told the US-India Business Council.

“These steps will give Indians reliable, affordable, diversified energy independence so they will no longer have to rely on difficult regimes like those in Venezuela and in Iran.”

Trying to outmaneuver Chinese telecom giant Huawei from capturing India’s telecommunication markets, Pompeo also stressed that, “we are eager to help India establish secure communications networks – including 5G networks,” noting that the US is committed to “protect data and secure consumers’ privacy.”

While acknowledging that Washington “respect[s] India as a truly sovereign, important country,” the chief diplomat made no secret that the military industrial complex expects India to purchase more American military hardware, at a time when the South Asian nation is making a push to secure arms from Russia, including the S-400 air-defense system.

“Lockheed Martin’s F-21 and Boeing’s F/A-18 are state-of-the-art fighters that could give India the capabilities it needs to become a full-fledged security provider throughout the Indo-Pacific,” he said.

Despite Pompeo’s optimism, his visit will come amid escalating trade tensions, as the US seeks to reduce the US’ $21-billion deficit with India. President Donald Trump has repeatedly accused India of ‘unfair’ trade practices and refusing to buy more American products.

Just ahead of Pompeo’s visit, Trump excluded India from the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) program which allowed the country to export around $5.6 billion worth of its goods to the US duty free.

The two nations have also locked horns over India’s decision to ink an estimated $5 billion deal with Moscow to purchase S-400 anti-air systems. Since then, the US has been pressing India to buy American equipment instead, offering Patriot and THAAD missiles as an alternative. Washington has repeatedly threatened to impose sanctions on India to prevent the sale from going forward.

New Delhi has dismissed the threats, stating that it would not be told what to do and “follows an independent policy.”

‘Suspicious doesn’t begin to describe what happened’: Iran’s FM on tanker ‘attacks’ in Gulf of Oman
    https://www.rt.com/news/461758-zarif...ck-suspicious/

Iran’s foreign minister has labeled the reported attack on two “Japan-related” oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman as “suspicious,” occurring just as Japanese Prime Minister Abe came to Tehran for major talks.

Expressing his misgivings on Twitter, Javad Zarif noted that the incidents on the two vessels on Thursday, one of which had been reportedly struck by a torpedo, had occurred as Abe sat down for “extensive and friendly” discussions with Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
    (magnetic mine also a possibility)

Confirmation has also come from Japanese shipping company Kokuka Sangyo that one of its vessels had been struck in today’s attack while transporting 25,000 tons of methanol.

The second vessel had been chartered by Taiwan’s state oil refiner CPC Corp, in order to carry oil from the Middle East.

Tehran calls for securing of strategic waterways after tankers attacked in Gulf of Oman
    https://www.rt.com/news/461775-iran-...ankers-attack/

Iran has called for an international effort to protect important waterways in the region
just hours after two oil tankers were attacked in the Gulf of Oman, warning of the risk of further insecurity in the region.

Tehran is ready for regional cooperation in safeguarding strategic shipping lanes in the Middle East, government spokesman Ali Rabei told state-affiliated Fars News Agency.
He also cautioned Iran’s neighbors against making hasty decisions.

“All countries in the region should be careful not to fall in the trap of those who benefit from regional insecurity,” he said without elaborating.

Earlier in the day, two tankers – the Kokuka Courageous and the Front Altair – reported fire on board and sent distress signals.
As the story developed, some media said one of the ships, the Norwegian Front Altair, was hit in a torpedo attack.

An Iranian vessel was said to be the first to reach the tankers and rescue 44 crew members that abandoned their ships.
The cause of the mystery explosions on one of the world’s busiest oil shipping routes remains unclear.

This is the second incident in several weeks that has taken place near the Strait of Hormuz, through which one-fifth of the world’s oil passes.
In May, four tankers were reportedly hit by explosions near the UAE port of Fujairah.
The Emirates reported a “sabotage attack” and the US pinned the blame on Iran,
which strongly denied the accusations, saying Washington has not provided any evidence to support the claim.

**note to self: put the 'white helmets' 'skripal poisoning' & these gulf sabotage events into the same file.

Early reporting can be foggy, incomplete or inaccurate but at this point there is no evidence in media reports suggesting that our closest ally was behind this mischief even if they have been accused of F-flag conspiracies in the past.

Israel honors Jewish terrorists who bombed US-UK civilian buildings with aim to to blame it on 'Muslim Brotherhood'
The Lavon Affair refers to a failed Israeli covert operation, code named Operation Susannah, conducted in Egypt in the Summer of 1954. As part of the false flag operation, a group of Egyptian Jews were recruited by Israeli military intelligence to plant bombs inside Egyptian, American and British-owned civilian targets, cinemas, libraries and American educational centers. The attacks were to be blamed on the Muslim Brotherhood, Egyptian Communists, "unspecified malcontents" or "local nationalists" with the aim of creating a climate of sufficient violence and instability to induce the British government to retain its occupying troops in Egypt's Suez Canal zone.
After Israel publicly denied any involvement in the incident for 51 years, the surviving agents were officially honored in 2005 by being awarded certificates of appreciation by Israeli President Moshe Katzav.
