Alabama Lawmakers Send Governor Bill to Castrate Convicted Pedophiles

Alabama lawmakers recently passed House Bill 379, Crimes and offenses, sex offenses, mandatory condition of parole, chemical castration treatment authorized as mandatory condition of parole for certain sex offenders.

The bill was authored by State Representative Steve Hurst. He was recently interviewed by local CBS42, and he states that the bill will be for sex offenders over the age of 21 that committed sex offenses against children.

“They have marked this child for life and the punishment should fit the crime,” said Hurst.

“I had people call me in the past when I introduced it and said don’t you think this is inhumane? I asked them what’s more inhumane than when you take a little infant child, and you sexually molest that infant child when the child cannot defend themselves or get away, and they have to go through all the things they have to go through. If you want to talk about inhumane–that’s inhumane,” said Hurst.
Governor Kay Ivey now must decide whether or not to sign the bill into law.

Local attorney Raymond Johnson thinks the bill may face legal challenges if passed, based on the U.S. Constitution’s 8th Amendment.

They’re going to challenge it under the 8th Amendment Constitution. They’re going to claim that it is cruel and unusual punishment for someone who has served their time and for the rest of their life have to be castrated.
Representative Hurst says he wanted physical castration at first, but later amended the bill to be “chemical castration,” which is a drug the prisoner would take to eliminate their sex drive. He claims that it is reversible if one stops taking the drug.

Have they made sure that conviction process is foolproof and wrongly accused cannot be convicted?

Also, Alabama is a deeply Christian state ( where libs/Dems had allegedly conspired to take down GOP's Conservative Christian Senate nominee Roy Moore using famous Ivanka statement against him), could this become slippery slope and lead to other harsh Biblical punishments down the road?

Why chemical castrate when you can physically castrate?

I'm sorry, I don't agree with this. Doesn't mean they don't deserve it (even if 100% of convictions truly are accurate). But if the goal is rehabilitation this does the exact opposite.

    Maybe its abortion related...

And I think we are light years away from rehabilitating pedos, you need an extremely compassionate and educated society for that to happen.

Sometimes the goal is to protect society rather than to rehabilitate, in cases where guilt is absolutely proven then castration or execution accomplish that better than any other response.

I'm not for government castrating baby rapers but I'm absolutely fine with government getting out of the way and letting the family have at 'em repercussion free.

How does this do the opposite? If this reduces the urge that habitual offenders can't reduce by easier means, then it seems like this actually promotes rehabilitation, whereas allowing them to remain in their status quo is what would impede it.

Would Ron agree with this? I'm not saying they don't deserve it and are not among the most disgusting people ever. I just don't think I could ever get behind state sanctioned stuff like this. I mean why not just kill them. I can't get behind that either.

I shouldn't have said rehabilitate that's not what I meant. My point was that if you do this it might make them more mental not less.

You might be right, but morally it would be hard for me to sign off on.
