Google Just Gave 2 Billion Chrome Users A Reason To Switch To Firefox

Google is planning to restrict modern ad blocking Chrome extensions to enterprise users only, according to 9to5Google. This is despite a backlash to an announcement by Google in January proposing changes that will stop current ad blockers from working efficiently.
And the software giant is not backing down: It says the only people who can use ad blockers following the change will be Google’s enterprise users.
The proposal–dubbed Manifest V3–will see a major transformation to Chrome extensions that includes a revamp of the permissions system. It will mean modern ad blockers such as uBlock Origin—which uses Chrome’s webRequest API to block ads before they’re downloaded–won’t work. This is because Manifest V3 sees Google halt the webRequest API’s ability to block a particular request before it’s loaded.

People aren’t impressed. Many have complained about the move, which effectively takes control away from the user and creates an incentive to use other services instead.

There are many users who won’t use Chrome without an ad blocker, so it will see some switch to other providers such as Firefox. However, Firefox has had its own issues over recent weeks.
It's important to note that the changes won't stop all ad blockers from working, but exactly who is affected isn't totally clear. Google sent me a statement by email, which reads: “Chrome supports the use and development of ad blockers. We’re actively working with the developer community to get feedback and iterate on the design of a privacy-preserving content filtering system that limits the amount of sensitive browser data shared with third parties."
For now, Wright thinks people should use Brave instead: “Brave is built upon Chromium so all existing Chrome plugins and even themes work on it. This is perhaps why it's seen an increase in user numbers.”
Another option is using something like Pi-Hole, says Wright. “This works on the DNS level and has blacklists of adverts as well as malicious URLs.”

Same problem plagues Firefox frequently on many websites as well. Its not Fire / Waterfox's issue, its that each website has to renew their security certificate every year in order to provide HTTPS requests. Lot of websites fail to do that, including both Netflix, and Microsoft who once let the domain name of hotmail.com expire one time.

I've been using firefox regularly since Opera switched to chromium a while back. I tried chrome again last week for a whole week and had to switch back. Firefox has always worked better for me- the only thing that bothers me is that it requires so much tweaking to get the best performance out of it. I tried the new mozilla fenix browser but it doesn't allow extensions right now so its not really usable. I like using privacy badger css exfill protection and decentraleyes and Local CDN and Youtube classic and canvas blocker and smart referer and clearurl and ublock origin. Chrome for android doesn't even support extensions because they want to stop adblocking so that wasn't even an option. The worst I think is they seemed to have purrposely designed youtube to work better on chrome than on other browsers it can be 5 times slower without the youtube classic extension

Google Struggles To Justify Why It's Restricting Ad Blockers In Chrome
    https://developers.slashdot.org/stor...kers-in-chrome

An anonymous reader quotes a report from Vice News:

Google has found itself under fire for plans to limit the effectiveness of popular ad blocking extensions in Chrome. While Google says the changes are necessary to protect the "user experience" and improve extension security, developers and consumer advocates say the company's real motive is money and control. In the wake of ongoing backlash to the proposal, Chrome software security engineer Chris Palmer took to Twitter this week to claim the move was intended to help improve the end-user browsing experience, and paid enterprise users would be exempt from the changes.

Chrome security leader Justin Schuh also said the changes were driven by privacy and security concerns. Adblock developers, however, aren't buying it. uBlock Origin developer Raymond Hill, for example, argued this week that if user experience was the goal, there were other solutions that wouldn't hamstring existing extensions. "Web pages load slow because of bloat, not because of the blocking ability of the webRequest API -- at least for well crafted extensions," Hill said. Hill said that Google's motivation here had little to do with the end user experience, and far more to do with protecting advertising revenues from the rising popularity of adblock extensions.

The team behind the EFF's Privacy Badger ad-blocking extension also spoke out against the changes. "Google's claim that these new limitations are needed to improve performance is at odds with the state of the internet," the organization said. "Sites today are bloated with trackers that consume data and slow down the user experience. Tracker blockers have improved the performance and user experience of many sites and the user experience. Why not let independent developers innovate where the Chrome team isn't?"
Trackers track you when google cant. Thus, Trackers make google money. And we cant let you not make google money by invading your privacy and destroying your future. Thus, they dont want you to do anything that would prevent you from seeing ads that try to sell you $#@! you dont need with money you dont have and slow down your computer to the point of basically ruining the user experience, and they really dont give a fat flying $#@! about you or your experience, all they want is to milk you out of every last dime they can, even if that means turning you into the product and selling you out until there is nothing left. World Wide Googlag.
