White House Rolls Out Website To Report Silicon Valley Censorship

The White House has launched a new tool for people to use if they feel they have been unfairly discriminated against over social media.
The Trump Administration is fighting for free speech online.

No matter your views, if you suspect political bias has caused you to be censored or silenced online, we want to hear about it! https://t.co/9lc0cqUhuf pic.twitter.com/J8ICbx42dz
    — The White House (@WhiteHouse) May 15, 2019
Those who feel they have been wrongly banned, censored or suspended on platforms such as Facebook or Twitter can go to "wh.gov/techbias" where the following mesage will greet them:
"SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS should advance FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Yet too many Americans have seen their accounts suspended, banned, or fraudulently reported for unclear “violations” of user policies.
No matter your views, if you suspect political bias caused such an action to be taken against you, share your story with President Trump."
The idea was immediately supported by Twitter alternative Gab.com, which tweeted: "Excellent, we will email our ~1m users and get you a very large set of data."

In April, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) threatened to regulate social media companies after repeated charges from President Trump and other conservatives that Facebook, Twitter and Google have targeted the political speech of conservatives.
"What makes the threat of political censorship so problematic is the lack of transparency, the invisibility, the ability for a handful of giant tech companies to decide if a particular speaker is disfavored," said Cruz during April remarks.
In March, President Trump accused Facebook, Google and Twitter of bias, saying "I do think we have to get to the bottom of it." Trump said that the media giants are building a "stacked deck" against him.
Meanwhile, undercover investigative firm Project Veritas recorded Twitter engineers bragging about shadow banning "a way of talking," as well as targeting conservatives and classifying users who tweet about "guns" and "God" as Russian bots.

So if you post it elsewhere, they can sue you for copyright infringement?

That isn't what that says, it says you are providing them a license for the content, not that you are assigning them ownership. It doesn't say you are giving them an exclusive license either.

This is maddening, why are people on this site falling for the most classic form of the Hegelian dialectic? you don't need to regulate these platforms, all you need is to get enough people to boycott these censoring platforms and instead subscribe to their competition. The president closing his twitter account and post everything to gap would do wonders for gab.

The more these monopolies are accepted by govt and regulated, the harder it would be for other to compete with them. Reject this idea now or else you and your children will be stuck with these sort of censoring platforms. Regulations to these companies doesn't kill them, they make em stronger.

Not really, these entities lied about simply being a platform (vs. publisher) of free speech to draw users. Now that they cannot stand some speech that doesn't agree with them, they activate the authority to publish or unpublish what they want and call it "dangerous". You cannot sue FB as a publisher even though they act as one.

You really can't have it both ways.

Does anybody seriously think that Trump would care about facebook's "monopoly," but for the fact that facebook supports his political opponents?

(incidentally, a perfect commentary on how anti-trust laws are actually used)

Similarly, would Trump care about the injustices of the FISA system, had he not been a target?

    ...both rhetorical questions, obviously.

So they lied, is that a crime to lie to your customers? Trump lied about a lot of things during the campaign to get voters to vote for him. I personally think the best way to deal with this issue is with the free market tools. Trump is huge of twitter, if he alone bolts from twitter, that would be a huge deal for the competition.

Regardless of what you think they did wrong, this treatment of govt regulation is only going to make em stronger and I do not like it. I am going to open an account on gab even though I don't use twitter type social media just to protest this censorship problem. Actually I wouldn't

I never used them but allowing them to engage in criminal behavior is not a good idea, especially when they are created by or subsidized by government and when they conspire to prevent competition.

Twitter Erupts After 2,000 Pro-Venezuelan Accounts Are Deleted

Nearly 2,000 pro-Venezuelan Twitter accounts have been removed for “engaging in a state-backed influence campaign,” the social media company said in a blog post on Thursday.

A total of 1,196 social media accounts based in Venezuela suspected of attempting to “influence domestic audiences” were purged last week.

Another 764 accounts were deleted, although the San Francisco-based company told users, “We are unable to definitively tie the accounts located in Venezuela to information operations of a foreign government against another country.”

Allegations of censorship soon filled the site’s timeline.

Television host for the investigatory series, Empire Files, Abby Martin tweeted, “While pro-coup Venezuelans & right-wing exiles dominate the media sphere, tech companies are actively censoring pro-government accounts they say are working to "influence" people.”

Another journalist, Ben Norton, accused the company

Many “libertarians” have been categorized as “pro-Venezuela” because of their opposition to US interference in foriegn matters.

Twitter is basically run by the SJW Antifa Democrat left, so of course they love empires and globalism.

Libertarians when discussing Venezuela are usually anti interventionists (like me), the people banned were pro govt(Venezuela). I doubt many of these people are libertarian. But they do ban people from the left who speak out against the empire.
