Thumbs up White House Threatening To Curb Visas From All Those ‘Visitors’ Who Never Go Back Home

The Trump administration is mulling rules that would deter foreign nationals from overstaying their short-term visas, targeting what data indicates is the largest source of illegal immigration in the U.S.
President Donald Trump and White House aides might execute rules that would punish countries that are home to a high number of people who overstay their short-term visas, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal. Under such a plan, the White House would put countries “on notice” if a significant number of their citizens are overstaying their visas in the U.S. If the rates do not change, future visas would be harder to obtain and more limited in scope.
The White House is also considering barring countries with high overstay rates from obtaining visas altogether. However, the administration said a blanket ban is not under consideration.
Hogan Gidley, a White House spokesman, said it’s the administration’s priority to “reduce overstay rates for visas and the visa waiver program — and it’s well known that the administration is working to ensure faithful implementation of immigration welfare rules to protect American taxpayers.”

While the crisis at the southern border has engulfed public debate over immigration, data shows visa overstays remain the largest source of illegal immigration into the U.S. In fiscal year 2017, the latest year for such available data, 701,900 foreign nationals overstayed their visas, as compared to just 310,000 border apprehensions, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants living in the country, 42 percent of them came legally and simply overstayed their visa.
If such a punitive measure is implemented, nations that would likely be slapped with visa limitations include Nigeria, Liberia, Chad, Sierra Leone and Eritrea — countries whose citizens routinely abuse their short-term visas while in the U.S.

The White House isn’t stopping with just the short-term — B1 and B2 — visas, but also looking to tighten regulations concerning student and investor visas, as well. Administration officials are also pursuing options on restricting entry of immigrants who are deemed likely to use publicly funded benefits.

I agree but we have to move the conversation in that direction in order to get there.

When a U.S visa expires after 6 months or 3 years, it means those visa holders must go back to their countries. SIMPLE

Implement a death penalty for any illegals overstaying the visa.

Since when is "border apprehensions" a valid metric to compare with visa overstays? How many make it in without getting caught?

The solution is simple. Trump has said that he wants to increase legal immigration. He should just do that. Whatever amount of time these visitors want to stay here, give them visas that allow them to do that. Then there won't be any overstaying their visas. Similarly, there is a disincentive for them to leave the USA to return to their home countries, since they lack confidence that they'll be able to get another visa to come back here again, so rather than risk that, they just stay here. But if they had confidence that they'd be able to leave and reenter with ease, and have no trouble getting another visa if needed, then more of them would leave periodically and do that.

This is a classic case of government banning something and just pushing it into a black market with unintended consequences.

Tightening the border in the 70's and 80's led to more illegal immigration for those same reasons. Workers used to fairly easily cross to find work and after a few months take that money home to their families. But then it became harder to get across. So they came and instead of going home, stayed in the US. Instead of sending money to their families, they started bringing their families to live here with them- the numbers not legally in the country increased greatly.

That is garbage, Reagan's amnesty led to more illegal immigration and border security was extremely insufficient.

They say it is a problem because people do not honor the visa and stay after it expires . So the root cause is issuing them in the first place . Do not issue them and the problem is eliminated . That program can be just eliminated and use the program/ criteria they use for permanent residents instead , then if they stay it is not a violation of your program .

And we can just reduce the number of permanent residencies we grant to compensate.

Ya personally if you are going to control immigration I see no reason to allow anyone in who is someone you would not allow as a resident . If they are failing that that is a failure of one of the few duties they have to the citizens . If they are not good enough to be a resident and able to support themselves they need to stay home . I do not invite myself to others ( except Danke which does not really count , he is a barbarian that lives among socialists and somalis ) and expect them to feed me ..

Additionally, the memorandum calls for DHS and the State Department to develop plans within 120 days to implement an admission bonds program where nationals arriving in the U.S will be required to pay a bond that they would be returned when they return to their home country because their visa has expired. Should a visa holder not return home, the bond amount would be withheld.
An admission bond policy already exists in current immigration law, but the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency has yet to enforce the program in all cases.
NumbersUSA’s Rosemary Jenks told Breitbart News the plan’s most effective element would be the implementation of admission bonds to cut the number of visa overstays, but she questioned why the “most important tool” in stopping visa overstays, full implementation of the Biometric Entry/Exit system, was excluded.
“In terms of what is in the memo, the use of admission bonds probably would have the most immediate impact on reducing overstays,” Jenks said. “Additional impacts will depend on how the State Department and DHS respond. I’m surprised at the glaring omission of the single most important tool for reducing overstays: completion of the automated, biometric exit system, first required by law in 1996.”

I see that under Trump, the immigration policy is becoming severe every year. I don't know if it's good or bad. However, I think that such a policy has more negative effects on the social-economic development of the country.

Eliminate sober drivers from getting killed by revoking sober drivers driving privileges.

Eliminate gun violence by taking guns away from responsible gun owners.

Eliminate immigration by stopping the petition of immigrants by responsible citizens that desire to petition people.

No, excessive immigration has far worse consequences.
