The Sudanese Army has announced that Sudan is now in a state of emergency status for three months and that a "transitional military council" would be formed to rule the country for a two-year period after that. Sudanese Defense Minister Awad Mohammed Ibn Ouf made the announcement on state TV in Khartoum on Thursday.

It's widely believed, though unconfirmed, that the country's Defense Minister Brigadier General Awad Mohamed Ahmed Ibn Auf, who was appointed as Sudan's first vice president last February and acting Defense minister, was the one ultimately behind Bashir's removal.
Defense chief over the Sudanese armed forces, Gen. Awad Mohammed Ibn Ouf, declared a state of emergency and a 2-year transitional period:
After months of protests, #Sudan's military have arrested long-term leader Omar #AlBashir.

Earlier this Thursday, the country's defense minister announced that a military council will run the country for a two year transitional period.#F24Debate asks, what's next for Sudan? pic.twitter.com/e1zTo1GsVJ
    — The Debate – France 24 (@F24Debate) April 11, 2019
The Sudanese Defense Minister also confirmed that al-Bashir was in a "safe location" and that the state of emergency would include a one-month curfew, the closure of airspace, ports and crossings in Sudan, and the dissolving of the presidency and cabinet, according to a translation of the remarks by Middle East news source Al-Masdar.
    UPDATE #Sudan

    • Opposition calls for civilian control

    — Joyce Karam (@Joyce_Karam) April 11, 2019
It was further noted the Army will oversee a "transition period" which "will end with federal elections."
However, the possibility for continued violence remains high in the historically tumultuous northeast African nation, given the coup follows months of protests which saw dozens of demonstrators killed.
Though there's current festivities on the streets of Khartoum celebrating al-Bashir’s resignation and arrest, time will tell if the Army keeps order and more crucially if it will be true to its word regarding transition to civilian rule.

Sudan's defense minister stepped down abruptly on Friday as head of the country's transitional ruling military council after only a day in the post, as protesters demanded quicker political change following President Omar al-Bashir's ouster by the armed forces.Hours after the military council sought to calm public anger by promising a new civilian government, Defence Minister Awad Ibn Auf said in a televised speech he was quitting as head of the council.
Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman will be the new head of the council, Ibn Auf said. He also said Chief of Staff Kamal Abdelmarouf al-Mahi was relieved of his position as deputy head of the transitional military council.
"In order to ensure the cohesion of the security system, and the armed forces in particular, from cracks and strife, and relying on God, let us begin this path of change," Ibn Auf said.
News of the change sparked joyful celebrations in the streets of Khartoum as people chanted, "The second has fallen!" in reference to Bashir, witnesses said.
"What happened is a step in the right direction and is a bow to the will of the masses, and we have become closer to victory," Rashid Saeed, a spokesman for the main protest group, the Sudanese Professionals Association (SPA), told Reuters.
"We are committed to our demands that we submitted to the army," he said. "We call on the masses to stay on the streets until all the demands are met."
The military council said earlier that it expected a pre-election transition to last two years at most or much less if chaos can be avoided. The head of the military council's political committee, Omar Zain al-Abideen, said the council would hold a dialogue with political entities.
The announcement of a future civilian government appeared aimed at reassuring demonstrators who had pressed for months for Bashir's departure and quickly resumed protests against army rule after his ouster on Thursday, calling for quicker and more substantial change.
But the SPA said the military council was "not capable of creating change." In a statement, the group restated its demand for power to be handed immediately to "a transitional civilian government."

Sudan's deputy U.N. ambassador, Yasir Abdalla Abdelsalam Ahmed, told the U.N. Security Council on Friday that any democratic process in the country required time, and he urged the international community to support a peaceful transition.
"No party will be excluded from the political process, including armed groups," he told the council during a meeting on Abyei, a contested border region claimed by Sudan and South Sudan. The 15-member council convened later on Friday behind closed doors to be briefed on the latest developments in Sudan.
"Moreover, the suspension of the constitution could be lifted at any point and the transitional period could be shortened depending on developments on the ground and agreements reached between stakeholders," the Sudanese envoy said.
World powers, including the United States and Britain, said they supported a peaceful and democratic transition sooner than two years. China said it would continue to seek cooperation with Sudan regardless of the political situation.
Zain al-Abideen said the military council would not interfere with a civilian government. However, he said the defense and interior ministries would be under its control.

Zain al-Abideen said the military council itself had no solutions to Sudan's crisis and these would come from the protesters.
"We are not greedy for power," he said. "We will not dictate anything to the people. We want to create an atmosphere to manage a peaceful dialogue".
He said the council would meet on Friday with political entities to prepare a "climate for dialogue," but that was later postponed.
The council said it did not invite Bashir's National Congress Party to join the dialogue because "it is responsible for what happened." It warned protesters that the army would not tolerate unrest.

Sudan's new ruling military council announced Sunday that it will name a civilian prime minister and Cabinet but not a president to help govern the country following the coup that removed longtime leader Omar al-Bashir.An army spokesman, Lt. Gen. Shamseldin Kibashi, also said in televised remarks that the military had begun to overhaul security organizations and would not break up demonstrations that have continued outside the military headquarters since Thursday's coup.
The statement came after a second day of meetings between the army and organizers of the months of escalating street protests that led to al-Bashir's ouster.

African Union threatens to suspend Sudan after coup
    https://en.trend.az/world/other/3047079.html

The council demanded that the Sudanese military "step aside and hand over power to a transitional civilian-led political authority, in accordance with the will of the people and constitutional order, within a maximum period of fifteen days from the date of the adoption of the present communique [Monday]," according to the text.

The council warned that the failure to fulfill this request would lead to the automatic application of the Article 7 of its protocol, "in particular the suspension of the participation of Sudan in all AU’s activities until the restoration of constitutional order."

Last December, protests over a hike in bread prices erupted in Sudan and later escalated into nationwide demonstrations calling on President Omar Bashir to resign and end his 30-year rule.

On April 11, Sudanese Defence Minister Awad Mohamed Ahmed Ibn Auf announced that Bashir had been detained and a transitional military council had been established to govern the country for the next two years.

South Sudanese President Salva Kiir has offered to help mediate a political transition in Sudan after the fall of autocratic president Omar al-Bashir to weeks of popular protests, Kiir's office said on Wednesday. His move came seven months after Bashir helped mediate a shaky peace deal between Kiir and the main opposition rebel group in South Sudan, which won independence from Sudan in 2011 after decades of conflict.
Bashir, who seized power in a 1989 coup, was himself toppled last week by the military, which has vowed free elections within two years, though protesters remain in the streets, demanding an immediate handover to an interim civilian authority.
Kiir said he was ready to support the "democratic aspirations" of his former adversary in Khartoum and help bring about a peaceful transition.
"The president has offered to mediate the ongoing negotiations among various groups in Sudan with the hope that the new transition will usher in a new day in Sudan...," a statement by Kiir's office said.
South Sudan's petroleum minister told Reuters he had traveled to Khartoum to meet the new leadership, alongside a high-level delegation that included Juba's security service chief and a presidential adviser on security.

According to Sky News, after investigators launched a probe for money laundering into ousted president Omar al Bashir's regime, they found large sums of foreign currency at his home. Specifically, military intelligence found cash worth 6 million euros stuffed in suitcases, as well as 351,000 US dollars. They also uncovered five million Sudanese pounds (£80,000).

Sudan's opposition is making its presence felt when it comes to determining the country's future direction. On April 28, the Transitional Military Council, which took control of Sudan after overthrowing longtime President Omar al Bashir on April 11, reached an important agreement with opposition parties under which both sides have agreed to form a joint military-civilian council.
The opposition parties, represented by the Forces of the Declaration of Freedom and Change, had abandoned negotiations with the military over Sudan's future last week, but the Transitional Military Council renewed its efforts to accommodate their concerns. In the end, three generals resigned from the council amid civilian accusations that several members of the council represent Islamist or al Bashir-era factions. At present, the military council and the civilian coalition are continuing negotiations to determine the composition of the joint panel and whether it will rule for two years, as initially announced by the military, or four years, as demanded by opposition parties.

Arab States Foment Sudan Chaos While U.S. Stands By
    http://archive.is/nCgqQ

American officials are unhappy over the role of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE but say their hands are tied.

After weeks of unbridled optimism following Bashir’s April ouster, Sudan is now on the brink of a total breakdown.
The influence of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates is unmistakable.

Sudan’s descent into bloody anarchy in recent days has been partly brokered by Middle Eastern countries
that are filling the power vacuum since the downfall of longtime leader Omar al-Bashir...

The Sudanese military initially said that it wanted to hand over power to the civilians organizing the protests, but then military leaders dragged their feet.
Protests turned the area around the military headquarters into a sit-in to keep pressure on the junta to transfer power.
The sit-in was repeatedly attacked by Hemeti’s forces for weeks and was finally dismantled on Monday.
Much of the city remains in lockdown, with Hemeti’s soldiers roaming the streets.

More than 100 people were killed on Monday
Forty bodies were pulled from the Nile River
video showed bodies with rocks tied to their feet to make them sink in the river.
