“Unplanned” Causes the Death Lobby to Show Its Fangs

    https://www.thenewamerican.com/revie...show-its-fangs

    Written by William F. Jasper

The Death Lobby is flexing its muscle, showing its fangs, and spraying its venom. Planned Parenthood (PP) and its culture-of-death allies are frothing-at-the-mouth furious over a small, independent film that is ripping away the mask from the monstrous abortion industry that has slaughtered at least 61 million babies since 1973, the year of the U.S. Supreme Court’s infamous Roe v. Wade decision.

Unplanned, the true-life story of Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood “rock star” who is now a staunch pro-life advocate, is doing the unthinkable: It’s rocking PP’s multi-billion-dollar baby-disposal applecart. For the Death Lobby, this is not only unthinkable; it’s unforgivable. The abortion behemoth has rallied its formidable forces in the media, academia, Hollywood, and the Democratic Party. They have tried to crush the movie with the same cold-blooded malevolence and audacity with which they crush the skulls of unborn babies who stubbornly resist their suction machines.

As we have reported in our online articles, the first blow was to get the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) to give the film an “R” rating. The intent was to scare off many pro-family viewers and make it impossible for girls under the age of 17 — a big cohort of Planned Parenthood’s targeted “clientele” — to view the film. There is no profanity, nudity, pornography, promiscuity, or gratuitous violence in the movie. The only violence depicted is the very real, lethal violence of surgical and chemical abortions. As Judie Brown, president of the American Life League, commented, “The irony is that a teenager as young as 13 can get an abortion without her parents’ consent, but cannot see a movie about abortion unless she is over 17.”

Next, the pro-abortion Fake News television networks blackballed the film, refusing even to accept paid advertisements. Yes, the same networks that have become a cloaca maxima of filth and degeneracy claimed that they could not accept ads for Unplanned because of the “sensitive nature” of the subject. Twitter suspended the film’s account twice — claiming after the first incident that it was an accident — in an attempt to stifle its social-media promotion.

Media reviewers tried to kill the movie by either ignoring it completely or savaging it with ridicule. The “review” by Nick Schager at The Daily Beast provides a taste of the vitriol that is being served up for the heroic film. Entitled “‘Unplanned’: Inside the Controversial (and Completely Bonkers) Anti-Abortion Movie,” the Schager piece carries the following subtitle: “This gory, R-rated anti-abortion film paints Planned Parenthood as a powerful, bloodthirsty terrorist organization. It’s even crazier than it sounds.”

Unplanned, he charges, “is the cinematic equivalent of an anti-abortion pamphlet peddled by one of those holier-than-thou creeps who lurk outside clinics, reciting biblical quotes in order to terrorize (often young) women looking for much-needed reproductive health care.”

“Propaganda doesn’t come more putrid than Unplanned,” Schager writes, “which is the perfect way to spend a Friday or Saturday night if you’re a die-hard right-to-lifer who views Planned Parenthood as a scourge upon the face of the Earth. Smacking you upside the head with its message for 110 god-awful minutes via every cornball cliché in the (not-so-good) Christian-movie book, it’s a leaden, self-righteous and wholly rancid affair, designed only to preach to its choir by maligning the non-profit organization.”

Maligning the “non-profit” organization? Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report, released this past January, proudly informs us that in 2018 the organization’s killing centers executed 322,757 babies — a new record number — while racking up a profit of nearly $250 million on a record cash flow of $1.66 billion. Of that blood money, $563 million came from taxpayers. Which is a painful reminder that even with Republicans controlling the White House and both houses of Congress, the faithless and feckless GOP leadership could not muster the courage to cut the taxpayer umbilical cord to the PP killing machine. They found excuses to dillydally, frittering away two years of an historic opportunity. Now, with the Pelosi/Ocasio-Cortez Democrats in control of the House, we face a new roadblock to the efforts to end the 46-year mass-murdering spree against our youngest and most helpless citizens.

But their war plans didn’t plan on Unplanned. Despite all the hostile blocking measures of the MPAA and the media, Unplanned was the fourth-most popular film in theaters when it opened, doubling box-office expectations its opening weekend of March 29-31, taking in $6.4 million while being shown on 1,059 screens. It set new box-office and attendance records for independent and faith-based films and is expanding to 1,700 screens for its second week of showings.

It will take more than a movie to end the slaughter. It will take much prayer and sacrifice, as well as unrelenting civic education and action. But Unplanned’s triumphs demonstrate that the war for the soul of America is far from over. It continues to rage across many battlefields.

US anti-abortion film a surprise box office success

    https://news.yahoo.com/us-anti-abort...010603753.html

    Thomas URBAIN - AFP - April 5, 2019

New York (AFP) - A movie produced by a Christian studio about a former employee of an organization that provides abortions who became a "pro-life" activist is proving to be a surprising box office hit.

"Unplanned," which was released in theaters on March 29, has pulled in more than 8.6 million dollars in North America, according to Box Office Mojo.

That put the film in an unexpected fourth place for the week behind the much bigger budget pictures "Dumbo," "Us," and "Captain Marvel."

"Unplanned" comes amid a resurgent campaign in the United States by opponents of abortion, which was legalized in the United States in a landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision.

Among those promoting the movie has been the deeply religious vice president, Mike Pence.

"So good to see movie theaters across the country showing @UnplannedMovie," Pence tweeted. "More & more Americans are embracing the sanctity of life because of powerful stories like this one."

Building on its early buzz, "Unplanned" is to be shown in more than 1,500 theaters across the United States this weekend, up from 1,059 the weekend of its release.

    - 'R' rating -

Produced by the self-described Christian studio Pure Flix, "Unplanned" was launched with little advertising because most cable TV channels reportedly refused to air ads for the film.

Anti-abortion groups have denounced this as part of an orchestrated campaign which they claim also included the film being attributed an "R" rating by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA).

An "R" rating requires anyone under the age of 17 going to a movie to be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

Fueling the criticism was the brief suspension by Twitter of the movie's account, which the company attributed to a technical problem.

Writing in The Washington Post, columnist Marc Thiessen called "Unplanned" the "movie abortion supporters don't want you to see."

"Unplanned" is based on a book by the same name by Abby Johnson, a former director of an abortion clinic in Bryan, Texas, run by Planned Parenthood, the largest family planning organization in the United States.

Johnson recounts in the book how she had a "spiritual awakening" after personally assisting with an abortion.

    - 'Propaganda' -

"Unplanned" has been dismissed by some critics as propaganda.

"There have been films that treated Nazi doctors conducting evil experiments in concentration camps more sympathetically," said Frank Scheck in The Hollywood Reporter.

Writing in the trade publication Variety, Owen Gleiberman said "Unplanned" "isn't a good movie, but it's effective propaganda."

"'Unplanned' preaches to the pro-life choir, and it does so by making a case against abortion that's absolutist and extreme," Gleiberman said.

The movie's co-director Cary Solomon shrugged off the criticism.

"We didn't turn this into a propaganda piece," Solomon said in an interview with AFP. "We refused to do that.

"We wanted to tell a true life story and let the truth be interpreted by people that see it," he said.

"It's an exact retelling of the book," Solomon said. "Everything in the movie is based on her true story.

"We didn't fabricate anything, we didn't make anything up."

Most US states allow abortion up until 24 weeks.

But there have been attempts in a number of states to restrict the practice.

In Georgia, for example, state lawmakers last month passed a bill that would ban abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected, which can be as early as six weeks.

The bill is awaiting signature by the governor and is expected to be challenged in the courts.

The film is exactly what it says it is: the story of redemption and the power of prayer. It is Abby Johnson’s story. I have been following this film since it went into production. I recommend only cowards and sissies not see it, and the “sensitive” scenes that earned the R rating are age appropriate for age 13+. Take your kids and go.

We saw the film opening weekend. It was in limited theaters but did very well. They expanded to more theaters this week. If you have any doubt about what abortion is, go see this film. I double-dog dare you.

Indeed. Abby Johnson started a foundation called And Then There Were None as a support network for clinic workers who want to get out of the industry. At the time of filming they had helped over 500 people get out. Since the film opened 100 more people have called for support.

This is the best opportunity to let the market determine worthwhile films.

In related news: Students for Life are in Times Square this weekend sharing the pro-life message. Focus on the Family will be there the first weekend in May showing a 3D ultrasound of a preborn baby on the Jumbotrons. I guess New York will see what their elected officials voted for.

In addition Democrats for Life report an increase in membership, and since February the percentage of Democrats identifying as pro life has grown for 20% to 34%.

“If Google thinks being prolife is propaganda, someone make me a t-shirt because I ain’t ashamed,” tweeted Ashley Bratcher, the actress who played Abby Johnson — a former abortion clinic director — in the hit movie Unplanned. Bratcher was responding to Google choosing to call the film a work of “propaganda.”
Regardless of what Google and other pro-abortion critics have said about the movie, it has exceeded expectations at the box office — raking in millions of dollars in the face of a major media blackout effort — but most importantly, it has saved the lives of unborn babies.
Bratcher told Fox and Friends on Monday, “The response has been incredibly positive. I mean, through it all — this has been the most rewarding and fulfilling role I’ve ever had in my entire career. To be able to hear someone come up to you and say, ‘I was so affected by your work that I decided instead of having an abortion, that I’m now going to have my child’ — I don’t know how to really explain the way that feels to know that you could potentially just have saved a life.”

Bratcher added, “There are not a lot of actors who get to say that, and I am so honored to be able to have a part of this.”

Many women who seek and receive abortions are woefully ignorant of what is actually involved in an abortion, but anyone who sees this movie will now know. The scene in which Johnson, played by Bratcher, sees the ultrasound in which the unborn child is sucked to death from a mother’s womb, demonstrates powerfully why many women who see an ultrasound of their own baby in the womb opt not to go through with the abortion.
It also explains why the pro-abortionists fight ultrasound laws.
Bratcher told Fox and Friends that she has been inundated with support from women sharing their own personal stories. “It’s literally incredible that people are being affected this much — this is why we did this movie,” Bratcher said. “And not only that, but being able to share my story with you guys — it’s not only the movie, but being able to share my heart and the fact that I care so much and that, we really do want to help women that we’re here to walk alongside of them.”
Helping women who are struggling with whether to abort their own child has been a cardinal point of the pro-life movement since its inception. While the unborn child is the primary victim of the abortionist, millions of women suffer tremendous guilt after undergoing the grisly procedure, and are clearly a second victim.
When I ran for state representative several years ago, I knocked on the door of a woman who asked me my position on abortion. I told her that I was pro-life, and her response was, “Well, I had an abortion when I was 17 years old.” I then expected to be verbally assaulted, but instead she told me that she had nightmares for 10 years after having had the abortion. Even after she became a Christian, she said, she continued to feel guilt at having had an abortion, until one day she felt God had forgiven her.
Such stories are no doubt part of the reason that Unplanned has been so successful, despite the efforts of the media and tech giants Twitter and Google to thwart its effectiveness. Samantha Bee, a liberal comedian, called it “anti-choice propaganda.” This seems to be the pro-abortion talking point, as Google refused to take any advertising for the film and classified it as “propaganda.” It told the writers of the movie, Chuck Konzelman and Cary Solomon, that the movie was being denied because it took the pro-life side of the abortion issue. Konzelman and Solomon predicted that Netflix and Amazon Prime will refuse to have anything to do with the movie, as well.
Twitter suspended the movie’s account, erasing 50,000 followers shortly after the film debuted. A spokesman for Twitter claimed it was a mistake.
Even before the film hit the big screens, efforts to diminish its impact included its being assigned an “R” rating.
Despite all of this, the movie has remained in the Top Five at the box office, and is both making money and saving the lives of unborn children.

I watched it and recommend it highly, no matter who you are or what your beliefs or philosophy. It reveals what Planned Parenthood is really about and why it must be cut off from taxpayer funding. If you agree with "woman's right to choose", you may have to change that after seeing this film.
