Thread: How much is the real budget?

  1. #1

How much is the real budget?

Say the budget is 5 trillion (rounded for simplicity) and the deficit is estimated at 1 trillion. So taxes reportedly will cover 80% of spending.

I have a hard time believing 5T is all we're spending. Yes, it's monstrous, but I would not expect the off-budget spending to be anywhere near immaterial. No amount of hidden spending/printing would surprise me.

So if $5 trillion is the public budget, how high do you think the total budget is?

Does the federal government also have insurance like regular companies do, or do they not need it?

The total budget includes "off budget" expenditures. They just hide exactly where that money is going.

Lloyds is an example of the 'biggest' insurers in world, I don't think they are
big enough to insure the US, I think we are more or less 'self insured' .
