U.S. won't partner with countries that use Huawei systems: Pompeo

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday warned that the United States would not be able to partner with or share information with countries that adopt Huawei Technologies Co Ltd systems, citing security concerns. In an interview on Fox Business Network, Pompeo said nations in Europe and elsewhere need to understand the risks of implementing Huawei's telecommunications equipment and that when they did, they would ultimately not use the company's systems.
"If a country adopts this and puts it in some of their critical information systems, we won't be able to share information with them, we won't be able to work alongside them," Pompeo said.
"We're not going to put American information at risk," he added.

I just feel bad for the Chinese people. They have to live under an authoritarian regime that would use Huawei devices to spy on the world's telecommunication systems.

It's a good thing the US government is standing up against such an evil practice.

Plus the Huawei devices probably aren't compatible with the PRISM devices already installed.

Washington is going to re-evaluate its policy of sharing intelligence with European allies that have decided to use Chinese Huawei equipment in their 5G networks, US Deputy Assistant Secretary for Cyber, International Communications, and Information Policy Robert Strayer said on 29 April. He claimed that using equipment from an “untrustworthy vendor” in any form compromises the entire network.
“If other countries insert and allow untrusted vendors to build out and become the vendors for their 5G networks we will have to reassess the ability for us to share information and be connected with them in the ways that we are today”, he said.
Earlier, reports surfaced that the UK had decided to allow Huawei equipment to be used in non-core elements of its 5G network; however, Strayer stated that Washington won’t differentiate between core and no-core aspects when making its decision to limit intelligence sharing.

The UK is not the only US ally in Europe to allow the Chinese giant’s 5G equipment to be used. Jochen Homann, director of Germany’s Federal Network Agency — Bundesnetzagentur, said that his agency would not bar Huawei from the country, as it had been given no indications that the Chinese company was spying on its clients. European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker also defended the tech giant by saying that the bloc won’t ban Huawei just because it “is Chinese.”

    UK:

Gavin Williamson has been sacked as defence secretary following an inquiry into the leak of information from the National Security Council.

The inquiry followed reports over a plan to allow Huawei limited access to help build the UK's new 5G network.

Mr Williamson, who has been defence secretary since 2017, continues to deny leaking the information.

Contrary to Huawei's insistence that it has never been caught spying for the government during its 30-year history, and that it would be willing to sign "No Spy" pacts to assuage national security concerns, reports about the discovery of 'back doors' in Huawei equipment have been a persistent - and unsettling - factor.

Just last night, President Trump signed an executive order, and the Commerce Department said it would add Huawei to a list of firms that US companies aren't allowed to do business with. Being added to this blacklist could result in a Huawei bankruptcy; a similar designation applied to ZTE, another Chinese telecoms firm, last year nearly destroyed the company. And on Thursday, the newspaper De Volkskrant revealed that a hidden "backdoor" had been discovered on the network of an unspecified Dutch telecoms company.
The report, which was picked up by Reuters, said Dutch intelligence agency AIVD is looking into whether the Chinese government had used the vulnerability to spy on Dutch citizens.

Huawei 'back door' boogieman argument is flawed...
it's NOT about 'security'. YOU HAVE NONE. Clear? I hope so.

    sum current cyber 'news'...

    https://thecyberwire.com/issues/issu...019_05_14.html

"BleepingComputer writes that Symantec, McAfee, and Trend Micro were among the security firms allegedly breached by the Fxmsp hackers. Trend Micro said data from a test lab had been accessed by unauthorized parties, but that no source code or customer information were compromised. Symantec denied being affected at all, and McAfee says it's investigating. BleepingComputer identified the companies from unredacted Fxmsp chat logs it received from Advanced Intelligence researchers. There's no word yet about a rumored fourth victim."

But German RT yesterday says they are:

    https://deutsch.rt.com/meinung/88319...odes-bedrohen/

"The source codes of three American antivirus manufacturers were cracked. Those who have the money can obtain the codes - including organized crime. Another aspect is more dramatic: almost all critical infrastructures in the West are now vulnerable."

    Anyone heard about it elsewhere?

"Digital Armageddon: Cracked source codes threaten critical infrastructure
The source codes of three American antivirus manufacturers were cracked. Those who have the money can obtain the codes - including organized crime. Another aspect is more dramatic: almost all critical infrastructures in the West are now vulnerable."

    Here's the source in English:

    https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/new...s-avs-respond/

First time I hear about this. But surely the affected companies won't happily announce that their products were compromised. Especially as it seems to be related to their products.

Recently new flaws in Intel processors were discovered. Allegedly they are even more dangerous than previously discovered ones (ie. Spectre)...

New secret-spilling flaw affects almost every Intel chip since 2011
