    Bill Weld rejoins Republican Party

Weld switches from Libertarian back to GOP as he mulls 2020 challenge to Trump

    by Dominick Mastrangelo
    February 05, 2019

Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld is mulling running for president and has taken a step toward challenging President Trump for the Republican nomination in 2020, according to a report.

Weld, 73, has changed his party registration in the Bay State from Libertarian back to Republican, according to the Associated Press.

A former Republican governor during the 1990s in the strongly blue state, Weld was running mate to 2016 Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson.

Some people that know him and respect him say that he's not done with the philosophy, just the party. I am not sure I believe it, but that's just what I heard.

In the run-up to the 2016 election, Weld described Trump as having “a screw loose.”

Well considering he's never done anything with the philosophy, he has only done things to the philosophy, that's not very reassuring.

Let's be honest. Like Bob Barr, he never stopped serving the interests of the GOP throughout his tenure in the LP.

What Bill Weld hasn't realized is that his liberal brand of "conservative" politics just isn't selling these days.

Weld barely won the nomination as the LP VP candidate alongside Gary Johnson. He only won because at the time, he pledged to never leave the Libertarian Party or to rejoin the GOP or Dems. GJ was begging delegates to vote for Weld and insisted he would never change parties again.

    So here we are..
