Thread: Ginsburg Misses Day Two at SCOTUS

  1. #61
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been given a clean bill of health by doctors, and her cancer is reportedly in remission, but she will miss at least one more week of work, according to the New York Daily News.

The 85-year-old Justice is reportedly "progressing fine, and no further treatment is planned" the outlet says, and the two cancerous growths the justice had removed from her lungs last month represented the extent of the disease. The cancer has not returned, though Ginsburg will remain under observation.
“Her recovery from surgery is on track,” Ginsburg's spokeswoman told media. “Post-surgery evaluation indicates no evidence of remaining disease, and no further treatment is required.”
Ginsburg missed a full week of work on the Supreme Court bench last week, preferring to analyze cases in front of the court through pleadings and transcripts of oral arguments. Ginsburg's staff assured the Supreme Court and well-wishers that the Justice was simply resting comfortably at home and that she is confident she can give the same attention to her cases, despite being outside of the courtroom.
Despite reassurances of Ginsburg's improving health, the Trump administration is taking the justice's repeated absences seriously. After all, last week was the first time Ginsburg missed an oral argument in her nearly 25 years on the bench. "Working from home" is not unheard of for Supreme Court Justices — former Chief Justice William Rehnquist used the privilege while recovering from illness as well — but it is extremely rare.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has canceled a public appearance scheduled for January 29 after missing two weeks of oral arguments at the Supreme Court.
Tuesday evening the Skirball Center announced the cancellation of "An Evening with Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg," part of an ongoing exhibit by the Cultural Center titled: "Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg."
Update: An Evening with Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is CANCELED. The Justice regrets that she is unable to visit the Skirball on 1/29. She is curtailing travel and focusing on her work while recuperating from recent surgery. Thank you for your understanding.
    — SkirballCulturalCtr (@Skirball_LA) January 15, 2019

While her exact condition is unknown, "top cancer surgeons" told CNBC they expect the 85-year-old Justice to be back on the bench in less than six weeks after fracturing three ribs and undergoing surgery to remove two cancerous nodules from her left lung over a two-month span.
Ginsburg's January 29 appearance was announced on December 20 - one day before her lung surgery. She was released from the hospital four days later. On January 7, Chief Justice John Roberts said Ginsburg was "unable to be present doay," adding that she would still participate from home. A court spokesperson said earlier that day that Ginsburg would participate in cases "on the basis of briefs, filings and transcripts."

    Weekend at Ruth's?
Ginsburg's absence from the bench - and now her late-January event cancellation, has stoked rumors over social media that the oldest Supreme Court Justice is actually dead, with doubters demanding proof-of-life under hashtags such as #WeekendAtRuths, a reference to the popular 1989 film Weekend At Bernie's.

I know this is cruel, but sorry, we need proof of life in regards to Justice Ginsburg. It isn't beyond the Left, and Deep State, to hide that she passed on. She also must be coherent. To just claim she is working at home, is not going to cut it.

Am I the only one who thinks Ruth Bader Ginsburg is actually dead but the media won’t report it bc they don’t want Trump nominating anyone else? #WeekendAtRuths

That said, video purporting to be Ginsburg emerging from her Washington D.C. apartment was reported by TMZ.

This wasn't enough to satisfy some critics who pointed to the fact that you can't see her face in the video, as noted by the Daily Dot's Mike Rothschild.

It's like 1980s Soviet Russia. A leader would disappear and they would announce, "Great Leader has mild cold. In good health."
Then a few months later news would leak out that there was a new great leader and the old one had been dead for a while.

    A zerohedge comment:

Anyone suspect that the Nancy Pelosi attempt at stopping the State Of The Union Address is to hide how serious Ginsburg's medical condition is. As we all know the SCOTUS Justices attend the SOTU. If Ginsburg doesn't/can't attend then it will create a whirlwind of news around her ability to continue to sit on the SCOTUS.

The calls will come loud and clear. Come out, come out wherever you are Ruthy.

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has pulled out of two upcoming speaking engagements as she recovers from cancer surgery in December, according to reports.

The 85-year-old Ginsburg was slated to appear January 29 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. A February 6 event featuring Ginsburg and private equity titan and philanthropist David Rubenstein in New York City was also canceled.
“Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg regrets that she is unable to attend the talk with David Rubenstein at 92Y on February 6,” 92nd Street Y told CNN. “She is curtailing travel and focusing on her work while recuperating from recent surgery.”

Last September, the Santa Monica Observor (SMO) was the first to report that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had developed cancer.
For that, SMO was slimed as fake news by Snopes, but Snopes was wrong.
On December 21, 2018, Ginsburg underwent surgery to remove two cancerous growths on her left lung. She had had two previous bouts of cancer: she was treated in 1999 for colon cancer and had surgery in 2009 for pancreatic cancer.
Although Ginsburg’s people insisted that Ginsburg was recovering nicely from the surgery, she had not returned to the bench since.
The Trump administration evidently has better knowledge than the Hate America MSM.
It was reported on January 10, 2019, that the Trump White House was reaching out to politicalallies and conservative activistgroups to prepare for Ginsburg’s death or departure from the Supreme Court.
Five days later, on January 15, San Diego Monitor once again is the first to break the news.
In a report that reads like an obituary, SDM‘s Stan Greene writes that 85-year-old Ginsburg is “stricken with pneumonia” and “will retire from the U.S. Supreme Court in January 2019,” and that “President Donald J Trump will be replacing Notorious RBG, the lovechild of the left, and so will remake the Supreme Court for a generation.”

Smart Call: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Has Been Dead On The Supreme Court Bench For 3 Months, But Democrats Are Febrezing Her Every Day In Hopes That No One Notices

If there’s anything this wild year in Washington has shown us, it’s that the traditional rules of politics no longer apply. After months of Republicans defying all the usual conventions of bureaucracy to win unprecedented power in government, it looks like the Democrats are finally responding in kind. According to sources, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been dead for over three months, but Democrats have been spraying Febreze on her every day in hopes that no one else notices she’s no longer alive.

    Well played, Dems. Well played.
One of just four reliably liberal jurists on the court, Ginsburg is key to maintaining a bipartisan balance in federal law, and Democrats are showing that they won’t let her death diminish any of her influence over policy. Spritzing her corpse up real good with Febreze every morning and taping her eyes open in a lifelike expression, left-wingers from all over Washington have been pitching in to give the now-deceased justice the appearance of sentience so as not to forfeit her seat to a conservative appointment.

“She’s definitely got a stink to her, but we simply can’t afford to back down on this,” said a high-ranking Senate Democrat speaking on condition of anonymity. “It’s an unprecedented strategy, but as long as we keep masking Ruth with Febreze, we should be able to hang onto her seat.”
“One of her eyeballs keeps falling out,” the source added.

Moved to and from hearings on a rolling chair by fellow liberal Justices Elena Kagan and Stephen Breyer, Ginsburg’s corpse has been present for all judicial obligations in recent months, and slight lurching movements caused by the escape of bodily gasses have created the illusion of spirited participation, making her appear at least as engaged in deliberations as her famously reticent colleague Clarence Thomas. However, as the stench of decomposition wafting from her cadaver grows increasingly ripe, some party leaders are starting to worry that Febreze won’t cut it for four more years.
“We might eventually have to laminate her or something,” said one congressional source who likened the smell of Ginsburg’s body to that of an old rotisserie chicken that’s been sitting at the bottom of a trash can for a while. “Or maybe we could stuff her with air fresheners. We’re gonna have to figure out something if we don’t want to lose serious ground in the judicial branch.”
While it’ll undoubtedly be a tough ruse to keep up for the entirety of Donald Trump’s presidency, you have to hand it to Democrats for finally stepping up and doing what it takes to survive in this new era of guerrilla politics. Knowing what an iconoclast RBG was, you just know having her corpse regularly doused in Febreze is exactly what she would’ve wanted.
