A Kentucky Republican received one vote for Speaker of the House as the 116th Congress convened.
Rep. Justin Amash, R - Mich., was the lone vote for Kentucky Republican Rep. Thomas Massie. The lawmakers are two of the members of the libertarian-leaning House Liberty Caucus which Amash chairs.
Reporters say Rep. Amash's vote was met with some boos from his party, which voted overwhelmingly for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California. Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi received 220 votes to McCarthy's 192.
Rep. Massie was another Republican who didn't cast a vote for Rep. McCarthy. He joined four others in voting for Rep. Jim Jordan, R - Ohio. Jordan would cast his vote for McCarthy.
