    Caravan #3

    https://www.latimes.com/world/la-me-...227-story.html

Another migrant caravan — this one estimated at 15,000 people — is preparing to leave Honduras on Jan. 15, according to migrant rights advocates and Spanish-language media.

“They say they are even bigger and stronger than the last caravan,” said Irma Garrido, a member of the migrant advocacy group Reactiva Tijuana Foundation.[sic]

Garrido said this new, larger caravan will probably be joined by more people in El Salvador and in Guatemala, but she said they don’t plan on coming straight to the Tijuana-San Diego border, where resources are already stretched nearly to a breaking point.

“They will stay in the south of Mexico in Chiapas and Oaxaca. Their aim is to request work there,” she said.[sic]

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has pledged visas and work in Mexico for Central American migrants. In his inauguration speech, he pledged public works projects such as planting 2 million trees and construction of his Maya Train, which will link cities in the three Yucatan peninsula states as well as Tabasco and Chiapas. The $8-billion project is expected to create hundreds of thousands of jobs in the southern states of Mexico.[sic]

On Facebook, reaction in Chiapas to news of a second caravan was not all favorable.

“Well, now the government does something. That work is for Mexicans that need it,” said Anna Pérez from Palenque, Mexico, on Facebook. “Opportunistic people who just want to take advantage of the Mexicans.”[sic]

In Tijuana, the presence of Central American migrants has sparked protest and even violence.

Last week, two people threw a canister of tear gas into Tijuana’s El Barretal shelter, Mexican federal police said.

On Dec. 15, two Honduran teenagers were viciously beaten, tortured and killed by low-level members of the Jalisco New Generation cartel, highlighting the dangers for unaccompanied minors in the caravan.

After the teenagers’ deaths, the Consulate of Honduras issued a warning: “We reiterate the call to Honduran nationals that they not risk their lives and the lives of their families on the dangers that the migratory route represents, where migrants are exposed to being victims of traffickers.”

Thousands remain stuck in Tijuana, a city with more than 2,000 homicides this year, leaving the Central American migrants almost as vulnerable as they were grappling with the gang violence that caused them to flee their homelands.[sic]

If this is confirmed, US Media/Foxnews will have to be more responsible in their coverage this time around.
While he still had the sole responsibility, it was reported that among other things following Foxnews reporting/photo of last caravan may have incited the suspected PA Synagogue shooter.

Here we go again as Chiacgo faces bone chilling -70 degree cold windshield:

AL GORE: Migrant Caravans Are Victims Of Global Warming

    01/24/2019 Michael Bastasch

Former Vice President Al Gore said the recent Central American migrant caravans seeking asylum in the U.S. were fleeing the ravages of global warming.
Gore said the so-called “dry corridor,” which includes El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, “is the most vulnerable region in the world to global warming.”
“And they’ve gone without a harvest this year. Some have gone without a harvest for two years,” Gore told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour in an interview Wednesday. “That is one of the principal causes for them making that long journey.”
Thousands of Central American migrants have joined caravans headed for the U.S.-Mexico border in order to seek asylum. Most experts see them as economic migrants, coming to the U.S. for work, not fleeing global warming.

This isn’t the first time Gore linked global warming to recent migrant caravans. In December, Gore called the caravans a “recent, startling example” of global warming forcing people to flee their homes.

However, Gore is not the first to label the caravans “climate refugees.” It’s part of a broader media narrative to link the thousands joining U.S.-bound caravans to global warming.

For example, The Guardian ran a story in October citing alleged experts who “say the big picture is that changing climate is forcing farmers off their land and it’s likely to get worse.”

That same month, The Huffington Post said the migrant caravan “foreshadows” what’s to come with global warming. And E&E News called the caravan a “preview of climate migrations,” that is, people driven from their homes due to man-made global warming.

Migrant mini-caravan breaches border near site of Trump wall rally

    By Stephen Dinan -
The Washington Times - Tuesday, February 12, 2019

Hours after President Trump appeared in El Paso Monday at a rally to demand border wall money, a massive group of illegal immigrants breached the border a few miles away.

Border Patrol agents say 311 migrants strolled around the end of the border fence in Sunland Park, New Mexico, and walked into the U.S., where they were arrested just before midnight.

Almost all of them were families or unaccompanied alien children (UAC) from Central America, part of a stream of mini-caravans who have traversed Mexico over the last year, finding holes in American border security.
A group of congressional Democrats visited the location last weekend as part of a fact-finding border mission. Led by Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer, they returned to say that while they saw “challenges,” there was no “crisis” that required more fencing.

Also over the weekend, a group of pro-Trump activists stood along the border as a human wall, apparently following a presidential tweet suggesting that people could take the place of actual fencing if Congress didn’t pony up the money for a barricade.

“Why would you [vote for him again]? Coulter calls border agreement Trump's 'Yellow New Deal'

Trump talks a good game on the border wall but it's increasingly clear he's afraid to fight for it. Call this his "Yellow New Deal."

Au contraire, @realDonaldTrump! America will be a socialist country within 5 years, if you don't build the wall.
    — Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) February 12, 2019

“Why would you [vote for him again]?” the provocative author and columnist asked during a Daily Caller interview on Dec. 20. “To make sure, I don’t know, Ivanka [Trump] and Jared [Kushner] can make money? That seems to be the main point of the presidency at this point.”

“They’re about to have a country where no Republican will ever be elected president again,” she added. “Trump will just have been a joke presidency who scammed the American people, amused the populists for a while, but he’ll have no legacy whatsoever."

President* Trump Made President Hannity and President Coulter Very Mad

Nothing gets them going like the Big, Beautiful, Stupid Wall.

    Charles P. Pierce
    Feb 12, 2019

On Tuesday night, just as the president* was beginning his warm bath in the sour dreams of his acolytes in El Paso, the bipartisan congressional delegation tasked with striking some sort of deal on border security in order to avoid another government shutdown on Friday announced that it had struck an agreement in principle. This development seemed to strike the president* even more deeply into incoherence than is customary for him.

The deal itself is another abject surrender on the president*'s most basic campaign promise: a big, beautiful, stupid wall for which Mexico will pay. It calls for $1.3 billion for border fencing, subject to local environmental and community concerns. That'll buy him 55 miles of new border fencing—not a wall, not even close—and that's 10 miles less than he would've gotten had he agreed to the deal from last summer that he ultimately torpedoed.

The most important consequence of the announcement is that the country's several other presidents went out of their tiny minds. President Hannity actually cut away from the El Paso rally to call the deal a "garbage compromise." President Ingraham and President Dobbs also went into orbit. And the gibbering primates of the House Freedom Caucus screeched and howled and flung poo all around the electric Twitter machine.

Trump threatens to close border for 'long time'

    Published March 29, 2019

President Donald Trump threatened on Friday to close the U.S. border with Mexico next week, or at least large sections of it, if Mexico "doesn't immediately stop all illegal immigration coming into the United States" from the region.

Hundreds in Honduras set out in new U.S.-bound migrant caravan in face of Trump border-closing threat

SAN PEDRO SULA, HONDURAS - Hundreds of Honduran migrants, many carrying young children, set out in a caravan for that country’s border with Guatemala on Wednesday, hoping to reach the United States.

Some of those who gathered at the San Pedro Sula bus station said they can’t support their families with what they can earn in Honduras and are seeking better opportunities.

Most boarded buses before dawn that would carry them to towns on the Guatemalan border. Others walked through the rain, some pushing strollers or carrying sleeping children in their arms.

Guatemalan immigration authorities said that their Honduran counterparts informed them that about 1,100 migrants were headed for their common border, mostly aboard buses to two crossing points. They said some were already crossing into Guatemala.

Nohemy Reyes, who waited at the bus station with one of her five children sleeping on floor beside her, said her country’s economic straits are driving her north.

“The economic situation is very difficult,” she said. But if she finds the U.S. border closed, she said, she will return to Honduras.

U.S. President Donald Trump this week threatened to close the U.S.-Mexico border before changing course and threatening tariffs on automobiles produced in Mexico if that country does not stop the flow of Central American migrants.

U.S. border facilities have been overwhelmed by the number of migrant families. U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced this week that 53,000 parents and children were apprehended at the southern border in March.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen resigned this week and was replaced by U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan in an acting capacity.

Trump on Tuesday said he isn’t planning on reinstating his controversial family separation policy. Last summer, more than 2,500 children were separated from their families before a judge ordered them reunited.

The caravans became a popular way of making the trek because the migrants find safety in numbers and save money by not hiring smugglers.

In late March, Mexico’s interior secretary warned that the “mother of all caravans” was forming. That did not materialize, but Central American officials criticized the announcement, saying it could inspire migrants to merge into another caravan.

Miguel Angel Reyes of San Juan Pueblo, Honduras, said his country’s violent crime was one factor in his decision to leave, but mostly he was looking for a way to provide for his wife and four children.

“I’m going because the situation is really hard here in Honduras,” said the field worker. “We can’t take it anymore. There’s a lot of suffering, no work.”

If the border was secure then how can Trump's policies provoke a rush to beat increasing security?
