Dems introduced bill requiring Mexico to pay for the wall

Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas introduced legislation forbidding construction of a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border — unless Mexico pays for it.

Lee introduced the Protect American Taxpayers and Secure Border Act into the House on Dec. 19, which would “prohibit taxpayer funds from being used to build a wall between Mexico and the United States,” and further require that any barrier constructed on the southern border “be paid for using funds provided by the Government of Mexico.”

She referred the bill to the House Committee on the Judiciary and the Committee on Homeland Security, and already has four cosponsors: Democratic Reps. Karen Bass of California, Marcia Fudge of Ohio, Joaquin Castro of Texas and Yvette Clarke of New York.

Forcing another sovereign country to pay for a wall that anti-liberty Americans do not want to pay for or cannot/refuse to fund.

    Very Democratic, don’t you think?

But then, forcing Mexico to pay for it, on American soil even, along with forced unionization in the upcoming USMCA sets everything up very nicely for the North American Union.

If they taxed them at 10%, they could pay for the wall in 2 years and they would still probably be paying less than your average citizen in taxes.

I would love to see this bill passed and Trump put in the position of either signing or vetoing it.

I'd rather see the troops come home and the border secured.

Trump promised Mexico would pay for it. It won't cost you a thing- it will be free! Instead of stealing your money, he will steal from somebody else.

Should Canada charge the US if they want to build a border wall with us?

So all of a sudden they want to protect the taxpayers. I did not see that coming!

Trump should encourage sanctuary cities to take in as many via direct flight as they want but they have to be cared for and need to remain in sanctuary territory.

No wall needed. Because sanctuary cities love and will care for these poor people.

It is really weird how this wall thing has caused partisans to undermine their own professed ideologies. The left ought to be eating up a money spending scheme like this. It would have fit right into Obama's stimulus bill that they supported and Republicans opposed.

That's a great idea. Take it entirely out of federal purview and just let each city decide if they want to welcome them or not. I expect that most American cities would opt not to take on the burden of enforcing immigration laws. As for caring for them, the cities could accomplish that just by doing nothing at all and letting the free market work.

Embrace the diversity, it is our strength.

There is already speculation that MAGA might not sign it even if it passed Congress. Senior White House advisor and rising star of GOP-Adelson wing, Jared Kushner, might also oppose it and MAGA has great respect for his bipartisan advice.
