I turned on the Houston memorial to see the Oak Ridge Boys. A little too much Reba after.

You are still a little kid, then, Danno. I remember the assassination of John Kennedy and watched that funeral atop the desk of a second grader. That teacher had a TV with a coat hanger for an antenna, and my class was invited down to watch.

And yes, I remember the death of Gerald Ford. I remember when he became president.

First Ladies might not be such a big deal now, but my mother was a particular fan of FDR, and thus of Eleanor. Then we had Mamie Eisenhower who was a real character and Jackie who was the fashion icon. Plus her kids were about the same age as my brother and me. Lady Bird Johnson and her beautification protjects. Pat Nixon who was almost invisible. Betty Ford who did great work with addiction and recovery.

It’s just interesting how we hold elections and do this transfer of power every 4 or 8 years, and life goes on. We have had so many leaders compared to other nations.

Thanks you all for replying to the thread. I’ve been sick for the better part of two weeks. It makes me a little bit more reflective than usual.

St. Martin’s has a pretty awesome choir. They just finished an arrangement of the Battle Hymn of the Republic that has been around forever. Every high school and college choir has sun this. Say what you want about the son itself, but it has lots of vocal parts and a big sound at the end, lots of fun to hear and sing.

“The spirits of darkness are now among us. We have to be on guard so that we may realize what is happening when we encounter them and gain a real idea of where they are to be found. The most dangerous thing you can do in the immediate future will be to give yourself up unconsciously to the influences which are definitely present.” ~ Rudolf Steiner

I remember watching Kennedy getting shot and the endless coverage..
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

Old enough to be annoyed that my shows weren't on.

My pets dying has bothered me more than any of them.
