LifeSite Locked Out Of Twitter Account For “Hate” Fact-Based Post On Rise In Gay STDs

LifeSiteNews was locked out of their Twitter account on Thursday over an article that was posted four years ago that showed expert analysis on the rise in sexually-transmitted diseases on the rise among the homosexual community.
The piece written in 2014 by Dr. Gerard M. Nadal, molecular biologist and microbiologist who is also president and CEO of the Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer responds to media coverage which was at that time the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s new annual report on STDs.
Although at the time the consensus was that the “reason for the documented continued rise in syphilis (primarily affecting homosexuals) has more to do with homophobia than anything else,” Dr. Nadal contradicted that statement in saying the rise to be a result of the “upward trend in unprotected sex,” and that 60% of homosexual men were failing to disclose their symptoms or status to sexual partners.
He cited data from mainstream sources such as the CDC, which was at the time a recent New York Times report, as well as a study from 2006 in the journal AIDS Behavior.

On Thursday, October 18th, 2018, LifeSiteNews received the following message, notifying staff that Twitter had made the decision to lock the account due to the 2014 tweet in which the story’s neutral, factual headline violated “our rules against hateful conduct,” and somehow “promote[d] violence against, threaten[ed], or harass[ed] other people on the basis of […] sexual orientation […], or serious disease,” had been shared on the social media platform.

LifeSiteNews did not receive any further explination for being locked out of the Twitter account @LIFeSite and the length of time for the lockout was also not specified.
The only recourse offered to LifeSite was for the removal of the tweet or to appeal the process.
Currently, LifeSite staff is not able to post or operate the @LIFeSite account on Twitter in any way.
“This total intolerance for even reporting government health dept statistics that reveal the health dangers of homosexual activity betrays what Peter Thiel, himself a homosexual, previously called a totalitarian mindset in Silicon Valley,” said Steve Jalsevac, co-founder and president of LifeSiteNews.

“Twitter is now trying to force news agencies to report only what is acceptable to their personal, biased views and shutting down balanced, factual reporting on the homosexual issue.”

Private company, should be able to refuse service to anyone. A company should be able to let a person tweet or not, or bake a cake or not.

And a private company should also be able to be criticized for doing stupid stuff, and for being hypocritical about its speech codes, and lying about its proclaimed neutrality.

Refuse service, yes. Cancel service is somewhat different. Imagine you lease land to someone who happens to have red hair. They build a house on the land. You decide to cancel all leases for all redheads based on red hair being hateful. It's completely arbitrary and that's what's happening here, arbitrary enforcement of made-up definitions. At the very least, you should be liable to pay back the cost of building the house if you cancel the lease. Now apply that to Twitter...

It's in their terms of service. If you don't like it, don't use their product. Are they trying to shape a community that creates the largest user base possible to maximiza ad revenue or are they acting with an overt political agenda? It doesn't matter. It's their property. Go use some other service if you don't like it. Why are there so many people on a Ron Paul forum advocating government regulation over free market solutions!?!?!

I don't see where anybody in this thread suggested such.

Not outright in this thread yet, but I didn't say that. There are many people on here saying the courts should be involved in this. This thread is just another one trying to show a need for it. In no way do I think these articles keep being posted merely as criticism.

It seems to me that the OP made the thread just to inform people, not to argue for govt intervention. The vast majority of people on RPFs are not arguing for any government intervention. The sooner these groups banned from twitter leave to help greener pastures grow, the better.

Not really more difficult than that.

The only intervention I have ever called for is that their platform immunity should be stripped if they are going to act as a publisher and/or that those wronged should sue for fraud/false advertising and/or breach of contract, I'm not too energized about that though and my primary recommendation is that everyone boycott them for this kind of insanity.

Lifesite appealed the decision and their account was restored after only one day. https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/vi...g%20news%20bar

On Friday, Twitter Support notified LifeSiteNews that it has reversed the lock.

“We have restored your account, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,” the message read. “Twitter takes reports of violations of the Twitter Rules very seriously. After reviewing your account, it looks like we made an error.”

And many more don't get the publicity needed to force Twitter to back off, Twitter will continue to push the envelope and back off when the backlash is too strong until they have people conditioned to let them get away with anything.
