I'm actually surprised not see more news that during elections season Facebook has banned an account tied to RT, a registered agent of a foreign government, which all of our intelligence agencies have said have tried to influence our elections. This seems like something FB would be bragging about after their senate hearings.

Facebook Says Russian Firms 'Scraped' Data, Some for Facial Recognition

    Updated 8:59 a.m. today

By Jack Nicas, New York Times
San Francisco — On the same day Facebook announced that it had carried out its biggest purge yet of American accounts peddling disinformation, the company quietly made another revelation: It had removed 66 accounts, pages and apps linked to Russian firms that build facial recognition software for the Russian government.

Facebook said Thursday that it had removed any accounts associated with SocialDataHub and its sister firm, Fubutech, because the companies violated its policies by scraping data from the social network.

A top Trump aide asked an Israeli company for help to take Ted Cruz out of the 2016 election

By David Gilbert Oct 9, 2018

A top Trump campaign aide asked an Israeli private intelligence firm — with links to the IDF, Cambridge Analytica and a Russian billionaire — to devise a “social media manipulation” strategy to hurt Trump’s political rivals during the primaries and the election, according to a New York Times report.
Rick Gates, then Trump’s deputy campaign manager, reportedly contacted Psy-Group in 2016, seeking fake online personas to help sway some 5,000 delegates to the 2016 Republican National Convention by attacking Ted Cruz — Trump’s main opponent for the Republican nomination.
A second proposal outlined how Trump’s team could use opposition research and “complementary intelligence activities” about Hillary Clinton and people close to her to win the election.
The secret proposals were codenamed “Project Rome,” with those involved also given codenames — Trump was “Lion”, Clinton was “Forest”, and Cruz was “Bear.”
There is no direct evidence that Gates or anyone within the Trump campaign acted on the Israeli company’s proposals.

More on Facebook actin as Censor Arm of Deep State: Internet Censorship Just Took An Unprecedented Leap Forward, And Hardly Anyone Noticed

While most indie media was focused on debating the way people talk about Kanye West and the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, an unprecedented escalation in internet censorship took place which threatens everything we all care about. It received frighteningly little attention.

After a massive purge of hundreds of politically oriented pages and personal accounts for “inauthentic behavior”, Facebook rightly received a fair amount of criticism … What received relatively little attention was the far more ominous step which was taken next: within hours of being purged from Facebook, multiple anti-establishment alternative media sites had their accounts completely removed from Twitter as well. …

large alternative media outlets which were expelled from both platforms at almost the same time: Anti-Media, the Free Thought Project, and Police the Police, all of whom had millions of followers on Facebook. Both the Editor-in-Chief of Anti-Media and its Chief Creative Officer were also banned by Twitter …

It is now clear that there is either (A) some degree of communication/coordination between Twitter and Facebook about their respective censorship practices, or (B) information being given to both Twitter and Facebook by another party regarding targets for censorship. … there is now some some mechanism in place linking the censorship of dissident voices across multiple platforms. We are beginning to see smaller anti-establishment alternative media outlets cut off from their audiences … first witnessed with Alex Jones in August. …

new media outlets are beginning to silence dissident voices together in unison … means we can see entire alternative media outlets not just partially silenced but thoroughly silenced … crippled. This is huge … When I was removed from Twitter in August for “abusing” John McCain, there was a large and outraged uproar on Twitter, and my account was quickly restored with an apology. … the phenomenon of multiple high-profile alternative media outlets suddenly being silenced in unison by the two biggest social media platforms should be generating more outrage …

Any time you try to talk about how internet censorship threatens our ability to get the jackboot of oligarchy off our necks you’ll always get some guy in your face … , saying things like “Facebook is a private company! It can do whatever it wants!” … Facebook been inviting US government-funded groups to help regulate its operations, vowing on the Senate floor to do more to facilitate the interests of the US government, deleting accounts at the direction of the US and Israeli governments, and handing the guidance of its censorship behavior over to the Atlantic Council, which receives funding from the US government, the EU, NATO and Gulf states? How “private” is that? Facebook is a deeply government-entrenched corporation, and Facebook censorship is just what government censorship looks like in a corporatist system of government. …

Facebook Censorship and the Atlantic Council

5 months ago, Facebook announced that is was officially partnering with the Atlantic Council in the form of an “election partnership […] to prevent [their] service from being abused during elections.” … US midterm elections are only a couple of weeks away, so the Atlantic Council and its Digital Forensic Research Lab are now going at it with full force, closing Facebook accounts left and right …

One doesn’t need to look far to understand who the Atlantic Council are and what they stand for : it is a think tank essentially funded by NATO, weapons manufacturers, Middle-Eastern oil-state monarchies, billionaires and different branches of the US military. In short, it has been described as being nothing less than NATO’s unofficial propaganda wing. … who sits on its directors board – the crème de la crème when it comes to US neocons & war criminals: Henry Kissinger, Condoleezza Rice, Frank Carlucci, James A. Baker, R. George P. Shultz, James Woolsey, Leon Panetta, Colin Powell, Robert Gates, and many more.

Needless to say, the Atlantic Council has been on the same side as every single war and conflict engendered by US and NATO imperialism over the last 50 years, and has itself played a role in abusing democratic elections around the world as well as spreading propaganda and misinformation both in home countries and abroad to achieve its political means….

the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab … has little intention of putting a stop to actual disinformation groups and rather silences those that speak a message opposing their own. Many of the pages and accounts taken down have been political (often leftist), anti-war, independent journalists and media outlets that are known to go against the grain of mainstream media outlets. …

Many of the pages taken down had already been targeted back in 2016 by the McCarthyist webpage PropOrNot.not, endorsed by the Washington Post, …The Washington Post finally later on retracted their article endorsing PropOrNot

Facebook has suffered great pressure lately from Congress … Under such pressure it is not surprising that Facebook chooses to cooperate with a congress-approved think tank – the Atlantic Council -, and basically give them a free hand to censor as much as they want …

Facebook has essentially indulged in what was in 1934 Germany called the Gleichschaltung” of the media – a synchronized outphasing of dissident voices in the media and a consolidation of political opinions. …

Given that censorship is still extremely frowned upon by the general public … The fight against fake news and foreign propaganda efforts has … has given those in power a pretext to openly censor dissident voices … More of the same behaviour can be expected from both Facebook and Twitter …

Every single member of these sites just got angrier, and more determined. As soon as they found out their site is down, they will immediately go to their next hang out.
The more sites down, the more determined they are to fight on the next platform.

Self-Censorship: Where The Real Damage Is Being Done

I’ve been self-censoring more and more lately, especially since the latest round of coordinated cross-platform silencing of multiple alternative media outlets … Back in August I had my Twitter account temporarily deleted when I said the world will be better off without John McCain and a bunch of #Resistance accounts mass reported me; … The only reason my account was restored was because there was a large objection from many high-profile journalists and activists who understand the dangers of internet censorship, and I’m not willing to gamble that I’d get that lucky should something similar happen again. Being able to disrupt establishment narratives on a high-traffic website like Twitter outweighs the benefits of speaking in an unmitigated way.

And that ultimately is precisely the point. … make an example of a few dissident voices in the public eye, everyone else will rein in their own speech and behavior to avoid the same fate. The overall effect of this phenomenon is actually far more effective in suppressing dissident speech than the overt censorship is by itself … self-censorship actually silences exponentially more anti-establishment opinions. For every one voice you crack down on overtly, a thousand more silence themselves out of self-preservation …

empire loyalists know that they can consistently get away with saying anything they want with total impunity. … After my August Twitter suspension a #Resistance account publicly doxxed me … I was not expecting Twitter Support to reject my report … but they did. … Twitter wrote back. “However, after investigating the reported content we found doxing] was not in violation of Twitter’s private information policy. As a result, it won’t be removed at this time.” …

I see this routinely across all platforms; some accounts act without any fear of consequences, others seem primed for hair-trigger suspension. The bias is distinctly slanted in the favor of those who support CIA/CNN narratives and attack anyone who speaks out of alignment with the agendas of the US-centralized empire.

So while we are mitigating our speech more and more, the Eliot Higginses … get away with all manner of abusive behavior without any repercussions. … The only thing we have going for us at this point is that authenticity is attractive and oligarchic funding can’t buy creativity or inspiration. …

    self-censorship to avoid being de-platformed. …

LRC:The Atlantic Council (AC): Pro-Empire All the Way

Facebook joined up with the Atlantic Council [AC] in May of this year:

The link runs deeper than surveilling and expelling of Facebook users. Facebook strategies and policies are to be influenced by AC as this part of Facebook’s announcement shows …

AC is pro-U.S. involvement internationally. It is pro-Empire. It is anti-Russia. It wants the U.S. to meddle in foreign affairs. Its influence on Facebook is bound to be pro-internationalist, meaning pro-U.S. Empire. …

How constructive is it to get the U.S. involved in Ukraine? How constructive is it to promote American exceptionalism and worldwide interventions? In 2015, the AC published a report titled “Preserving Ukraine’s Independence, Resisting Russian Aggression: What the United States and NATO Must Do”. That report promoted the pro-Empire narrative. Its title contains a Big Lie. Russian aggression on Ukraine is a fiction. …

“TAC on several occasions has created fake news stories that went viral, about the very political narratives independent media is pointing out as false yet are being called propaganda. So who is truly creating propaganda?”

The Facebook-AC link means that at least one subset of targets of censorship will be spread across the political spectrum. They will be chosen, not so much on the basis of left and right, but if their narratives tend to be contrary to those promoted by the pro-Empire stories. The phony cover story

The left-wing propaganda mill Reverb Press cheered when Alex Jones got deplatformed and banned from Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Apple and Spotify in a concerted, Orwellian purge.
They wrote at least three articles cheering the act of censorship and called for even more:

Last week, they got banned themselves in Facebook and Twitter’s latest alt-media purge.

Their world affairs editor from 2014-2017, Marc Belisle, wrote an article in Buzzfeed on Wednesday titled, “Everything I Wrote Was True And Accurate. So Why Did Facebook Purge My Work?”

Belisle said, “Facebook’s characterization of the kind of work we did — and our motives for doing it — is wrong, and those who support a free press in America should be very worried about how the company disappeared our page.”

Facebook Sells $300,000 In Ads to Disabled Vet, Then Purges His Pages

Facebook banned several pages operated by disabled by Air Force veteran Brian Kolfage, after he says he spent $300,000 on advertising. The social media giant removed without warning Kolfage's Right Wing News and Military Grade Coffee Company (which donates 10% of all profits to veteran organizations), in a site-wide effort to crack down on "misinformation" on the network.

Right Wing News alone had over 3 million followers at the time of its banning. [Facebook conveniently purged the site 2 weeks before elections] …

According to his new wesbite, Kolfage, a triple amputee, explains:
"Facebook shut down thousands of Facebook accounts for their political opinions, saying in effect that they don’t have a 'legitimate political argument.'”

Kolfage … "invested over $300,000 in ads at Facebook's own request," …

"Facebook lied, they shut down my page because it was conservative, powerful, and the elections are in 2 weeks.

“attacking me, attacking conservatives in general, right before the elections. Never once did Facebook come to us to say there was any issue with RWN or our other pages. Never. But they sure loved taking our money.”
